Our coach/instructor today was Asa. He was very helpful to both my friend Sammar and I. Sammar actually bought her bow and arrows at the Nock Point, and she told me how helpful the staff here was in making sure that the bow that she bought was a good fit for her. I own a bow and arrows, but they ended up not being the best choice for me to use for shooting archery today. I bought my bow and arrows in 2013 as props for photo shoots in 2013 and 2014, so I'm not shocked that they weren't suitable for archery action. So, I rented a bow and arrows today. I also bought a bracer for $15. My costs for today were around $50 for about 2 1/2 hours of shooting archery, but it will cost me around $35 when I go back, since I own the bracer now. Asa helped me adjust my form. I was struggling a bit with pulling the bow string of the first bow back far enough for my shots, so Asa replaced my 20-pound bow with a 16-pound bow, and the replacement solved this issue. He also adjusted the orange dot below the target to suit my patterns of shooting. He did the same thing for Sammar's orange dot. The orange dot helps with aiming. Our coach was quick to spot issues like this and to help effectively solve them. Sammar and I both ended up getting several bulls eyes, in part due to such excellent and attentive coaching. What a wonderful experience. Sammar and I will be returning for sure. Pictures 1 - 4 were taken today at The Nock Point. The target on the right of the photo was my target, and the target on the left of the photo was Sammar's target. Pictures 5 - 7 of me (and of me with my gladiators, LOL) were taken in 2013 and in 2014 at my photo shoots where I used my bow and arrows that weren't suitable for actually shooting archery today. Just wanted to share. With a name like Artemis (the Goddess Artemis is traditionally depicted with a bow and arrows), I was hoping I would be decent at this! Until today, I haven't shot archery since I was a child. I remember loving it as a kid and being pretty good at it, but I wasn't sure if I'd still be good at it as an adult. Happily I think I can say that I've still got it! Thanks to Asa, the great coach at the Nock Point, for his help today!

It's also a bit uncomfortable here vs Renton or Snoqualmie, even thought the staff has always been very nice. I'm glad it exists, but for the money I'd recommend Renton or Snoqualmie - especially if you want to shoot greater than 100 yards. If you are just wanting to shoot your shotgun to get comfortable with it, you'll find it MUCH easier here than Renton and faster to get started for a one off here & there vs Snoqualmie.

We had the opportunity to shoot a glock, semi-automatic rifle, shotgun, riot weapons (less lethal), sniper rifle, and automatic rifle. The police officers and swat team that lead the instructions were super friendly, welcoming and generally excited to teach us about their line of work. This was definitely a very enjoyable experience and something I highly recommend for the public to do to enlighten themselves.

He helped my guest before I arrived to check in. I've been shooting at RFGC for more than fifty years and never had any issues with the facility, staff nor other members. Their fees and facilities are totally reasonable. I suggest anyone going to the range check their web site's calendar first to be sure ranges are open. They occasionally host special events in which ranges might be closed.

Alexia, the owner, was kind and patient while she talked to K about caring for the ponies and gave her many choices of how to spend the hour. There was never any pressure to do anything she didn't want to do, so K left feeling totally successful. She was able to brush the horses, helped buckle on tack, then practiced guiding the horses around the farm. The high point was being pulled in a sled while Alexia handled the reins from behind. While K learned about horses, the rest of the family walked around the farm with the younger granddaughter, visiting ducks, chickens, bunnies, and goats, and checking out what was growing in the gardens. They have an archery school and I was impressed by the caution shown any time other visitors were in that area. The description of Hawthorne Farm says they offer experiences for special needs kids and I can see how that would make a wonderful outing. I highly recommend a visit here for families and children of all abilities.

I decided to join the club to work on my skills regularly. There are a lot of reviews griping about strict rules and oversight. I find that bizarre. I want to use my deadly weapons in the safest and most responsible way possible, and having an acquaintance with the stupidity rampant in this world, I welcome strict rules in a dangerous atmosphere. I go to GHSC to keep my skills sharp and have fun, not to get shot by some yahoo. I have found the range officers to be consistently helpful and courteous. They have had to correct me a couple of times - once when I forgot the 5-round limit, and once when I placed my firearm in the wrong position to show all clear during a cease fire. They were polite both times. These people are volunteers who love the sport and want to keep everyone safe, and they deserve respect and cooperation. Bottom line: this club is outstanding, and I feel safe there. I would not hesitate to take a brand new shooter there (I have), or even a child. I hope to have enough free time to eventually volunteer as an RO myself.

Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club is a sad excuse of a sportsmen's club…read more First off, the day that you show up determines your experience. If you show up on a Wednesday, you will get a polite staff. They are knowledgeable, respectful and make the experience enjoyable. If you show up on a Friday it's an entirely different environment first. Let me say I've been in the 2 a community for 20+ years for law-enforcement, military, etc. I am also a firearms instructor and probably spent at least 10 years of my life as a firearms range safety. If you show up on Friday, you will be met with a group of three men that their whole job is to make sure that your time spent at Gig Harbor range is filled with anxiety, creating the most unpleasant feeling. They spent nearly every second staring at me with an angry, aggressive demeanor, perhaps trying to be intimidating. It was as if the employees sat there waiting for my friend and I to do something wrong. If you know anything about firearms, when people make mistakes, on the spot corrections need to be made for safety. I totally understand and respect that to the highest degree, and understand that even the most experienced people can still make mistakes. However, when range safeties decide to target one individual, giving no oversight to other individuals on the range, negligence has the potential to cause massive issues with safety. The entire time I was there, I guess the employees decided that I was the only one who needed any oversight, rather than any of the other people on the range. They spent the entire time staring me down, even though i was shooting groups at 100 meters. I felt totally disrespected and furthermore, I felt like I was not welcome at the Gig Harbor range. It's a beautiful range. It's well kept. I've spent a lot of time here since it's local. But if the people working there are rude, disrespectful, and try to intimidate customers, then people will stop showing up. I'm extremely disappointed with the experience today, and I will most likely not return to this range.
