Beware this company's deceptive business strategy. They will give a very low quote and send an inadequate number of movers whose job it is to try to meet the low bid. When they inevitably can't do the job in the time frame given to them, you are then forced to pay an additional fee. I was given a quote of $1,800 to move a 2 bd home from East Lansing to Chicago. After I called to let them know that I had a lot of books and thought the quote was too low, the owner raised it to $2,000 without ever coming to see my things. On the day of the move, they only sent two guys, who worked extremely hard to try to load everything within the time window. Unfortunately, once they got to Chicago, their Ryder truck was too tall to clear under the El tracks, so they spent several hours driving around looking for another way to get to my neighborhood. By the time they were done unloading, it was 11pm, and I was charged an additional $1,400 above the original quote, plus I paid the guys a good tip for all their hard work. I should note, I was not provided with any kind of contract in advance and was asked to pay the flat rate prior to booking. That and the low bid should have alerted me that something was off. I also think the company should have been able to find a truck-friendly route in advance, since they had the destination address. I should not have been forced to pay $1,400 extra for the fact that they used a super tall rental truck and didn't use a trucker-friendly route. In summary, I ended up paying pretty much what I expected, but the whole situation was a poorly planned bait and switch that made for an extremely stressful move. I have never hired a professional moving service before, but I do know people who have, so I had some understanding of how it might go. Jill and her moving team far surpassed my expectations! Shortly after I sent a message to the company through Yelp I received a response from the owner helping me and answering every single question. I was given a 2 hr window for when to expect the movers at my apartment and they arrived exactly on time at the start of that time window. Matt and Nico were friendly, helpful, and SO FAST packing all of my things up. They disassembled my queen bed and reassembled it in my new house. Impeccable service from beginning to end. I have no existing or prior relationship with this business other than having contracted with them twice to provide moving services. On the second occasion, involving a much more extensive move, I requested proof of insurance and licensing. The company did not provide the information, so I cancelled and only got my money back after registering complaints with the appropriate regulatory agencies. read more

The individual movers are hard working but the operations manager is unreliable. When we initially spoke to book our move, the operations manager enthusiastically said it would be no problem at all to pack a pod, and declined to do a walkthrough even though I specified this would not be a "typical" move as we sold our home furnished. The team arrived 3 hours late, was rushed, used zero tie downs, threw punch bowls and artwork in the pod completely unprotected, and when I called regarding the damage I received a lecture calling me "cheap" for using a pod and that it wouldn't have mattered if they actually protected our items because they would have broken anyways. We have moved several times using pods and never had an issue. The operations manager told me to send photos of the damage and has now ignored my emails for months. (Now I know they had no intention of responding and were waiting out the clock so I couldn't dispute the charge via my credit card company). I've never left a negative review before but feel I've given the company every chance to respond. I even tried to reach out to the owner, to no avail. read more

They showed up on time and wore their masks but they were very slow. This was not my first move, I have had several moves over the years. This job should have taken no more than 5 hours but they dragged it out over 8 hours. Make sure you watch the crew, they ate food out of the refrigerator. read more

Not recommended. When scheduling my move I informed Jill that it took 2 Men and A Truck 2 trucks and 2 men 9 hours to move my household belongings from Flint into 2 storage units in Lansing yet she still sent only 1 truck and 2 men. They were to call 20 minutes prior to arrival at the storage unit but instead they called me from the storage unit - about an hour late. Within an hour or two the lead mover called for more help and 2 more people came. Ultimately another truck was called for and Jill brought that herself. Having used 2 Men and A Truck to move into storage, I could not pin the dings and scratches I was noticing on Jill's Movers though I did observe sloppy carrying by one of the men but I will say they were fairly good about wrapping and covering the furniture when loading it in. However a contentious issue arose when they could not and did not take the treadmill to the basement. It was too big. Being that time was becoming an issue approaching 8 hours, they requested I tear it down and then call back and they'd come back and move it downstairs. Having just completed my part of that request, I called but was told I'd have to pay a minimum 2-hour fee. Requesting to talk to Jill or Drew - the 2 key players in that days' move, I was told Jill was not available and wouldn't be for several months and Justin (who I was talking to) was Drew's boss. He said he'd run my request by Drew and call me back but he hasn't called back. I'd paid to have everything moved and put in my house as directed but even 5 people couldn't complete the task - neither that day or when called upon as they'd requested! I strongly feel I should've stuck with the local 2 Men and A Truck. read more

I received a quote"from Jill mover for $850 moving from a 10x10 storage unit to a condo, it was a 24.4 mile travel time. When arriving at the condo, the truck half unloaded, they told me they had more paperwork for me and charged an additional $550 stating it was a long distance move this was not brought to my attention prior to the move and I feel as though I had been had. They placed things on top of boxes that were labeled crystal and fragile they put my plates and dishes 4' above my head on the shelving units too heavy for me to to get down things just continued on that realm, the gentlemen were actually quite friendly courteous and I did give all 3 of them a $20.00 tip. It was not necessary to have 3 people, it was a 10 by 10 storage unit no furniture to speak of, a bed, a dresser hope chess the rest was all totes and boxes, so it cost me $1400 to move 24.4 miles from a storage unit to a Condo.Schisters, rip off. I guess you get what you pay for...this company is a lot less expensive than the big moving companies. I thought I would give them a shot. I should have known from the beginning when I couldn't get any verification/confirmations in writing. I had requested several times some kind of contractual email, but received nothing. I kept my fingers crossed that they would show up for the move and they did, but were 30 minutes late. There was no phone call to let me know they were running late. Needless to say I was stressing out a bit. I had our things held in storage a few months. We needed to pay in advance each month for the storage. I was told that the storage fee payment would be applied to the moving costs if we moved things out of storage early. I was not provided with any receipts, paper or email, for any payments. And, at the end, when we moved things into our new home midmonth, we were charged for a full move, no credit was given for leaving storage early. I was told each time I called about it that the check should be in the mail. I asked if they could just put the credit on my card, but was told that management had to send a check. MANAGEMENT IS DISHONEST!!! As far as the movers, they were very nice and respectful. However, when moving our furniture and things out of our old home it was raining and no protection was put down for carpets/flooring. Their shoes left mud in areas of the house that I had to take care of for the new home owners. I made sure I expressed my concern when moving the items into our new home and they complied. Some of our items had been damaged in the move, but I knew that it would get me nowhere to bring it to their attention since I had been trying to get the credit for the storage fee and was unsuccessful. I gave up! I will NOT ever use this company again!!! And I hope you will heed my warning if you are considering using Jill's Movers!!! read more

I dont know if they have different managers for each location but I can tell you this, if you want something moved and you're in the Grand Rapids Area do not go with Jill's. They lied about almost everything. The guys gets there and the main boss guy that did minimal work proceeds to tell us he was told only 2 or 3 big items which was wrong, so he tried to charge more because we had about 3 more big items. They kept trying to take other things when we didn't need them packed, they would wait for me to leave the area and then try to intimate my girlfriend into signing a contract and or moving extra things so that it would take longer. They said the time starts when they leave their home base (so to speak) and we weren't told any of this. They gave us a quote over the phone and of course it ended up being a good $150 more. We asked them to leave some things outside because we were going to put it in storage and of course when I would leave they would try and talk my Girlfriend into bringing the stuff inside. THEY ended up breaking about $200 worth of stuff after we unpacked everything, and they took an item from one of my neighbors and never returned it, after the neighbor caught him trying to open her door. Ultimately this company (grand rapids area) is trash and if you're a woman, make sure you have other men around, whether its your BF, husband, brothers, Father, Or Just friends, because they will try to intimidate and change things once they arrive.
