One of the best bars I've ever been to--wish I could go back! What makes their drinks great is all the ingredients is fresh and drinks made with lots of care. The menu is unique and you have a lot to choose from--don't feel afraid to ask the staff for recommendations. They are very sweet, passionate and knowledgeable. Please try the Hylde-- it's my favorite. Made with elderflower and Jenever (a local equivalent to gin). If you're up for something fun and strange -- they have a fantastic drink made from asparagus juice and horseradish. If you're in the area and I mean anywhere in Belgium -- highly recommend making your way to this place. It's a gem! read more

Wandered in during a short stop to Ghent. The drinks were outstanding: original but with a respect for the history and culture of the cocktail. The owner/bartender was an outstanding host and even made recommendations for other spots in Ghent as well as the other cities we are visiting. What a cooool place. A sort of speak easy bar that isn't all that hidden - but I mean we had walked past a few times during the day and not noticed.... You have to ring the bell and someone comes to let you in. We luckily fancied a drink before dinner so rocked up at 6.30 just as they were opening so easily got a seat. The place is in the basement and is pretty tiny with only 10 tables of 2 and a few bar stalls. They also have an outside area overlooking the river which I am sure will be lovely in the summer! The waiter explained they serve 6 bespoke cocktails which they change monthly and because it was the start of the month hadn't printed the menu yet. He patiently went through the 6 cocktails for us in perfect English and helped us pick which ones to get based on spirits we liked and flavours we preferred. I went straight for the gin and chartreuse based cocktail (there was more to it but I can't remember). My bf picked a very odd one based around smoked salmon (dried salmon served on a little spoon on top) of which I can't remember which spirit was used but I just remember not liking it at all! You win some you lose some! At 13 euros a pop it was pretty pricey but nonetheless a lovely experience in an intimate local bar. The service was quite slow as they were also making cocktails for a group of 6 who seemed to be trying all of them out (I think maybe family friends) but it was fine by me as we just chatted - very chilled! read more
