Before I begin let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so without further ado let's begin!. We landed in this terminal from American Airlines at JFK. We boarded the air train to the shuttle downstairs, the shuttle then took us to the rental car parking.

Terminal 8 at JFK hosts the following airlines: Alaska, American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Southern, Finnair, Hawaiian, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Level, Qantas, Qatar Airways, and Royal Jordanian. In the past couple months I had the chance to fly in and out a few times with Alaska Airlines, British Airways and Qatar Airways. For some reason when I fly out of this terminal 2 out of 3 times (with different airlines) it wouldn't let me check in online so I had to do so in person at the counters. Glad to say check-in and bag drop off both times (British and Qatar) was a breeze, very short lines around 3:30pm (for BA) and 9am (for QA). There are about 4 dozen check-in counters for various airlines set up along 4 main aisles. It's not a huge terminal so there is only one main security checkpoint that all customers are funneled through. Lines usually aren't too bad without TSA precheck maybe 30 min, with TSA precheck then around 5-10 min. After security, walking towards the gates it doesn't take more than 10 min to get to your gate in any direction. Currently construction is ongoing so parts of the walkways are re-directed--generally speaking there is a duty free store area to the left after security, and some restaurants in the middle section before heading to specific gate numbers. The Shake Shack right after security is pretty popular, food is on par other Shake Shacks. I haven't been to many other restaurants in this terminal so open to any other recommendations too! The lounges offered include (according to google): - Greenwich Lounge: premium customers and Oneworld Emerald/Sapphire status, - Soho Lounge: Oneworld Emerald status - Chelsea Lounge: Oneworld Emerald status - Admirals Club: Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire, American Airlines or credit card holders with certain statuses (I think I'm seeing a trend here...) - Priority Pass members can use the Link: Gameway entertainment lounge or receive a credit at Bobby Van's Steakhouse For more info: https://www.jfkairport.com/at-airport/shops-restaurants-and-services

JFK airport, well at least terminal 8, is so easy to navigate. It's a huge airport, but it's easier to find your way around than our tiny Austin airport. It's clean and there weren't any lines at security from what I saw! It's so easy to find ground transportation. Literally just follow the signs around a few corners and you are exactly where you need to be to find taxis and ride share pickups. Loved that we didn't have to walk 5 miles or find a secret level of a hidden parking garage just to get a ride. We chose a taxi because they are flat rate from JFK and were cheaper than Lyft when I checked. I'm sure that fluctuates, but taxis are working to compete with ride share prices to earn business back. **Beware of the unauthorized drivers trying to divert you from the Yellow Taxi stand! They are not taxi or "black car" and they are more expensive. Don't get in the car with random strangers, guys!** We flew in mid-day on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. Well, that's true until you leave and find all the traffic in the world. But getting out of the airport was super easy!

I had a mixed experience going through JFK Terminal 8. Weirdly I had an odd hold up at security with ID but it was cleared and that maybe was a bit alarming but overall the rest of it was pretty smooth. I went to a lounge and then to my gate and had ample time to do so since I was on a known flight delay. Found it pretty easy to navigate through since I had ample time to get to my gate but it is pretty large so I can see how it could be harder if you're trying to get from one gate to another quickly.

They have done a nice job remodeling this terminal and have a lot of comfy chairs to lounge on. It's clean and spacious! Much better than last year so props to JFK

T8 at JFK is primarily used for American Airlines, and is also one of the airlines Major Hubs, their main headquarters is at DFW. JFK has a total of 5 Terminals operated by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey combined. It is multi-leveled, ground floor for baggage claim, and an upper level for check-in. American Airlines Admiral's Club located in Concourse C across of Gate 42 There is also Chelsea Lounge and SoHo Lounge above Gate 14, and Greenwich Lounge above Gate 12. You can also find a food hall with full service restaurants, Starbucks, Dunkin, Duty Free Shops, and many vending machines from makeup to pharmacy and others to name a few. The TWA Hotel located right across of T5 with a walking bridge that connects the terminal itself to the hotel. This is easily accessible via sky train. You can also connect to the other terminals through out JFK. Very user friendly airport, also other off location hotels are linked via a shuttle van service from the respected Hotel Brands. Passenger pick up is located outside of baggage claim at several bays marked with letters starting with A. Very high security, on occasion you'd also see Airport Police and/or Military when political events arise around the country or the rest of the world.

The short security line at Terminal 8 was a positive, but still somehow the check-in process seemed to lag. A minor inconvenience was the complete failure of the charging stations between gates 33 and 35. It's unacceptable that not a single one of the seemingly dozens of charging ports I sampled (at least five) was working. I eventually found a small number of working outlets near gate 39.

Welcome to JFK terminal number eight.

This is one huge, really huge terminal. It is beautiful with plenty of shops and restaurants. Give yourself plenty of time if your leaving from here as travel from one end to the other can take a fair amount of time. Having our TSA precheck was a huge savings in time. Not only did we get on a shorter line but it also moved very quickly. You'll move through the crowds by walking or taking the indoor beltway. Checking is was relatively easy and quick as they use very modern systems in this newer terminal. There are many places to stop along the way to your gate and sometimes you need to do that so once again... give yourself plenty of time to get in and situated. Once you find your terminal area there is plenty of space to sit and make yourself comfortable. We found a great Pizza shop and right behind them was a Starbucks and Dunkin. A great start to a six hour flight. There was a charging station and computer desk area by our gate. The charging station worked fine but non of the outlets worked at the computer desk. Yet another reason to keep your batteries charged. By budgeting a good travel time you'll be more comfortable here and not find any reasons to rush. Enjoy your flight. Probably the worse terminal. Ever. With the exception of how quickly we got our luggage checked in... thanks to early arrival, no long lines at Cathay Pacific counter... TSA peeps just hates their jobs here. Not helpful whatsoever. There was one guy who literally threw someone's bag... but didn't give any instructions. Everything else is just bare. Empty. They need to revamp this terminal. Please bring lounges to this crappy terminal so people can actually have a little bit of joy.... To this miserable terminal. Bright side, it's empty and soulless when you take a midnight flight... so hey, solo travelers for the win.

TERMINAL 8 at JFK TSA pre was a breeze but no clear very disappointing. Bag check-in bag check-in was a breeze pre-check was a breeze very pleased with the level of Customer Service and plenty of establishments or eateries in terminal 8 I was even able to get a beer and a double black label Johnny Walker neat which is for all my double black label crew. I normally don't fly American Airlines but I'm gonna give them a chance so far so good. I'll keep y'all posted.!

It was completed in 1962 and open for business. The original head house (aka: terminal building), operated as a functioning terminal until 2001. The exterior of the building, along with the interior, of the head house were declared landmarks in 1994. Moreover, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Today it is part of the TWA hotel complex, but anyone can visit the flight center, lounges, gift shop, food court, and museum area. In addition to the original building, it has been partially surrounded by additional hotel buildings. Inside, the former terminal has been restored to its former glory. You can see the open three-level tall windows with amazing views of departing and arriving jets in the sunken lounge area. There are the tube-shaped, red-carpeted departure/arrival corridors that now lead to rooms in the hotel, but used to connect the gates. Now various places in the head house and flight center are museum-type displays for the former airline. It is a very interesting place for anyone to check out the displays and read about the history of TWA. Moreover, there are additional items to check out like the old cars and the huge Twister game. Whether you stay at the hotel or just need a few hours to kill on your layover...this is "something to do". Personal Note: I thoroughly enjoyed seeing everything in the flight center. It brought back so many wonderful memories. When I was a little girl, my family and I used to look forward to flying in and out of here back when my dad worked for the airlines. We loved this airport and mainly because of this terminal...it was fun and different. With the way they have restored it, it almost seems like I entered a time machine to another time. I am forever grateful they gave this building a new life. I hope other families make new memories and remember the old ones as I did. It's a very special place and there is nothing like it!

You can show a red precheck stamp on your boarding pass in order to go through the metal detector scanning rather than the spinny hands-up one--that's about it. The queue lines are a bit unorganized. One good thing about terminal 1 is that most of the gates are within a very short walk of the TSA line completion. In terminal 4 for example, the general facilities are more upgraded and the TSA line is more organized. If you need to change terminals at JFK even for a domestic flight, you do have to exit the secure area, use the AirTrain, and re-enter another TSA line. That's very inefficient in 2026, although I recognize the challenge of being a huge airport. Other large airports (Atlanta, Dallas) still handle between-terminal transport well. Terminal 1 is largely home to all international airlines, like Air France and Lufthansa but not Delta. Duty-free purchasing is available.

Friendly, thorough, but not so quick…read more.. The not-so-quick part is 10/90...10% TSA and 90% your fellow passengers. Folks...when you are standing in a security line and you know you have to take off your shoes, belt, take things out of your pockets, etc. and take out electronics...why don't you just do it? Why wait on the TSA folks to tell you? They are doing the best they can by basically herding folks through there while thoroughly checking every bag and every person for our safety as a whole. This is not a game...help the process! For extra entertainment, two people in front of us took off their shoes just before the conveyor and then put their items on the conveyor and just walked away to go through the screening. Hello!...what about your crap? Their shoes became a tripping hazard for everyone behind them and finally got kicked out of the way. They didn't push forward their bags and personal items...what the heck? Then TSA is trying to figure out whose bags and shoes they belong to. They come back with the attitude that someone else should have taken care of it. Huh? Who?...Me?...My kid?...I don't think so! We don't touch other people's personal items. Just my opinion, but when you pull crap like this...I wish, I wish, I wish TSA would pull those folks aside and make them wait to re-enter the queue. I realize we all may forget things in the madness, but you can tell the difference between folks that forget and those that just expect someone else to do it for them. But wait, doesn't stop there...on the other side...they stood in front of the conveyor to take their do-da time putting things back in their bags while the trays are backing up...and they just stood there...why? Waiting on the dang shoes they left behind! Boo! They wouldn't move or get out of the way, not even with a polite "excuse me" to let other folks get their things, which makes you have to push through to get your belongings. UGH! A few TSA folks were overseeing things and I know they are busy watching, but a simple "move to the side" that takes a second or two could have moved things along quicker and would have been awesome to help fellow passengers. Aside from this...it's like a well-oiled machine. A bit of advice I have for every traveler is to talk to the TSA folks. They are doing a thankless job by choice to ensure the safety of all of us. It's an important job! A simple "hello" or "how are you?" goes a long way. I agree that in some places in the USA they could definitely be friendlier and often on a power trip, but this is not one of those places, or at least not on the day we went through. The folks here were friendly and just trying to get you where you are going or need to be.
