Jewel is the best chain grocery store we have in the suburbs and they open early and close late. They function as a liquor store as well (sales hours of alcohol depend on your city). They are often sold out of items, especially on the weekends. What I personally hate about to Jewel is that for some sale prices you have to have their app and clip "digital coupons." If you are offering a coupon, just list the sale price. I do not want their app, or to clip digital coupons. The other thing that I hate is that to get sale prices you have to buy multiple items. For example, my husband wanted some Lay's potato chips and the sale price was only on 4 bags! They do this on so many sale items. We live in an older home and simply do not have the pantry space to buy multiples of items we do not need. Sometimes we do, and donate the extras to the local food pantry. Jewel/Osco is extremely deceptive about their Sales/digital coupons! Cereals advertised at $1.99 each with a Limit 3 notice. That means will not apply to purchase on more than 3, it doesn't mean you MUST buy 3 to get the price. Gave them a chance to fix it, but the Customer Service person was more interested in arguing. Jewel usually has good quality products. However, this location needs to inspect the produce a bit more. I think the cucumbers were a bad batch because you can see the wrinkled skin. Other than that, employees were helpful in answering questions. read more

the lady via or whatever he name is up from at the self check out is the rudest person ever. this is the third time i have had problems with her she constantly watches over me while i'm checking out and only me for no reason saying i'm scanning everyone wrong when it's clear what is on the screen is in my bags and even checks my receipts at the end and when i was scanning a code on my phone she came up and tried to touch my phone and i told her please do not touch my phone and she cursed me out and said if i don't want her fucking help then she won't help. i didn't ask for her help first off she was watching over my shoulder the whole time for no reason and tried to even take my basket from me when i was still in the middle of checking out my items clear as day there was still stuff in the basket to i had to take it back from her also. while leaving the store she said it here are other jewels i can fucking go to and not to come back .this is far from acceptable if you can not have a even fake nice customer service attitude there is no reason to be working that job. read more

Do not go here... take the extra 4-5 min to drive a mile west to go to the Jewel in Downers which is on the same road!!! This Jewel in Westmont is ESPECIALLY ANNOYING as you will spend inoradinate time in the long, slow lines. I have tried working with management to improve the conditions for customers but the General supervisor, whose name begins with J, he does not seem to value any customer comments. This Jewel did have the self-serve checkouts put in many years ago, and in theory they should help the checkout situation. However, the store only uses them during certain limited hours because they invest very little in staff, including staff to supervise the self-checkout lines. With so many other grocery options in the area, including delivery services e.g. Amazon, it makes no sense to go here. Also, the quality of the groceries is poor. Many times my items have molded/gone bad far before the expiration date. Recently I had DoorDash deliver me some things from here, and a pack of Oscar Meyer Turkey had a grotesque green fuzzy growth on it, the package being unopened and 8 days before the printed expiration date. So clearly, this store has many issues. ONE STAR SOLID!!! Stay away. read more

I have been shopping here for over 35 years. Groceries and pharmacy were always great. However over the past few years it has lacked. The deli use to be incredible! Lately, the employees are not attentive/aware of people waiting. I/others have stood there waiting for help. They use to be friendly and helpful however it had changed in the last 3-6 months. Also I have not only seen expired items on the shelf on multiple occasions I have had to go back to the store to return expired items. Don't ever buy anything cold here. I walked the store twice and felt as if cold food was warm. Well it was! And nobody cares. The deli case in front of the deli was warm!! Cheese and meats!! The "hot bar" was SO BAD. The food tasted so old and it was not hot at all. I called the deli manager and she told me they are allowed to keep the food out for 4 hours and they check it every 4 hours for temperature. I think that if the food is up to temp- it should still taste somewhat fresh- this was BAD. like food you leave in a crockpot overnight. I went to the hot food bar ($7.99/lb). The selection was limited, mostly processed meats. Had mac-n-cheese and potato wedges as the only two sides. No vegetables at all. Once I tasted the food, it was honestly AWFUL. I am not picky, so for me to say it was awful, trust me, salt & pepper did NOTHING to add flavor to the mac-n-cheese! The cashiers were all 40+ and friendly, BUT OH MY GOD DID THEY TALK A LOT - too much, in fact!!!! They were already slow-paced, but the talking made them even slower. Not everyone wants self-checkout to avoid cashiers, but just because we come to the cashier, doesn't mean we want to know about your personal life and views. This isn't social hour. DO NOT BUY VANILLA GIFT CARDS AT ANY STORE I thought I was OK because I was buying the card from Jewel Osco in Westmont but that was a big mistake I put $200 on the card and an six dollar service fee when I went to use the card it was compromised and it had eight dollars on the card I called the company and they just come up with excuse after excuse and I went back to Jewel and they could care less but I asked them why are they still selling the cars because they're making a profit off of those cards so I guess it's buyer beware don't trust either one of them they're not gonna give you your money back . Just love that Jewel has the worst customer service every single time and today was no exception. I had the slowest cashier ever and even better as I was trying to pay my insane $200 grocery bill I had the pleasure of hearing two employees complain that Jewel was a complete Hell hole and they were both looking for other jobs. Grocery shopping is pretty uneventful. I shop at this store on Cass and Ogden frequently. Their staff is friendly, shelves are stocked so meet my needs. That changed tonight. I'm not a youngster, but decided to pump my gas there and pick up a few items around 5:30 PM. First of all the deli, at this time of day is crowded...orders don't come out quickly. 1 lb of this a 1/2 of that. There was one man servicing the customers. I waited patiently because everyone is understaffed and what can you do? When it was my turn I asked for fried chicken strips. Now Mr. nice to everyone decides to take out his building frustration on who else...me. He said rudely no chicken strips. I asked about some other selection (honey wings). Now he is just mean. "How much do you want with an eye roll?) Remember this guy had held it together until he was waiting on a petite older woman he could bully which he did. I reported him to store management and am never going back ever. I was pleasant to him and even said "it looks like you have your hands full". I am very understanding of places who are having trouble with staffing, but that's no excuse to treat your customers like crap. read more

This is the worst Jewel-Osco ever!! I try to avoid it at all costs but it's super close to my house and I do stop in when I'm in a pinch. Every single time I regret my decision. It's dirty and dated. Product on the shelves is often expired and/or out of stock. Baskets are frequently empty upon entering the store and you have to scour the checkout lines to get them. The absolute worst part is how terribly slow everything here is. The lines frequently extend out into the isles, the cashiers are extremely slow as are the baggers. I would say the average age of the people that work here is 80 (which is fine but it's clearly causing a problem with customer service and throughput). I recommend avoiding this location completely. read more

Do NOT order delivery groceries from Jewel Osco, period. If you live within 15 miles from this location, it is where your groceries come from & you will NEVER get them. When you call customer service you will be put on hold for 90 minutes waiting to speak to a manager. They will tell you to call this Jewel-Osco, where they will transfer your call to "home delivery" and NEVER answer your call. Then when you call back, they will not pick up the phone. This Jewel, like it's sister store, has no desire whatsoever for you to use the reusable bags they sell because when you attempt to reuse it, you are immediately accused of stealing it by the cashier. The cashiers presumably are instructed to as all customers, who bring in the reusable bags if they own them ( not considering the notion that buying a reusable bag might mean that you did in fact own it and wanted to "reuse" it. If Jewel is loosing that much money from people stealing reusable bags, maybe they shouldn't sell them. read more

Last week our local Jewel had Cod advertised for $5.99 per pound on a sale going from Wednesday to Sunday. I walk up to the meat counter on Thursday afternoon and ask for Cod. Sorry, the butcher said, our shipment did not come in. This week, Jewel ran the same sale so again I went to get some Cod and again I got the same answer. Sorry, we don't have Cod our order did not come in. I started to go to the service counter to get a rain check then remembered, I already had two different rain checks from previous cases where "Their order for cod didn't come in". One case I can understand but four straight cases appear to me to be fraud in advertising. read more

Maureen in the floral department is amazing. For the last 3 years I have come here to get my mother flowers for mothers day. For the last 3 years Maureen has just been a god send. I dont know much about flowers so I kind of rely on her to make things happen for me lol. She never fails. From the moment you ask her a question to the moment she finishes the floral arrangement she is just fantastic. Friendly, professional and always a good conversation. Ok, it is not Standard Market nor Whole Foods. Not even Pete's Market or Fresh Thyme. Yes the store can be a bit of a mess. The aisle signs are difficult to read. I don't buy most produce here. But for 90% of what I need - prewashed salad, bakery, milk, paper towels, etc - it is the cheapest store in the area and the quality is just as fine. Very important - they provide jobs for a lot of elderly and special needs individuals. That's 3 stars right there. Yes the lines will be slower but they have self-checkout. I have yet to see a special need worker at so many of the hip stores in the area. read more

Made the mistake of going back into this store last week. I spent over $450 on groceries. It was early afternoon, so at least there were cashiers working. After paying for my groceries, I noticed the bagger had put whole cases of water, soda & juice ON TOP OF ALL MY GROCERIES in the cart. She chose to ignore the near empty cart I had placed right next to it for the excess. When I complained about my smashed ruined groceries the cashier said and I quote "If you wanted them packed a certain way, you should have said something". I explained that I expected them to be packed in a way that utilizes common sense & does not damage the goods I just paid for. The store manager I sought out & eventually got to speak to (after he sent a flunky first), proved to be insulting, condescending & unprofessional. If you are looking for cold cuts and hour before the deli closes, don't go here because they close the deli an hour earlier than it says they do. They do this to "clean" for an hour before they close? I'm pretty sure the cleaning should happen after they close like a normal business, especially when the entire store closes at midnight. Seriously this location is great but the people who work here are so ignorants and have such a bad attitudes! I went in to get the watermelon and the grapes. Trying to use the self check out since it is so convenient and also I do not want to deal with the impolite cashiers. However, the scanner isn't the best thing, it always ask to get the assistant when I do not want them. So this lady came and said " did you scan the grapes when it shows on the monitor that grapes was the only thing being scanned! The watermelon was on the scale while she asking me. I said I scanned the grapes and about to scan the watermelon. She rapidly replied so" just the grapes?" That's all am asking with the tone! I was just walked out. It sounds nothing to somebody but I think it was so rude! I never being treated like that! These people are not active and unwilling to work. Why not hiring people who are more qualified? I guess it's time for an update, and time to admit that I *have* occasionally been buying meat from Jewel, despite having sworn not to in my previous review. (It's just so conveninent!) I've had no other spoiled meat experiences so far, although I do make it a point to get the meat that isn't store-brand, when possible. Store organization could use some improvement: Aisle labels should be at the ends of each aisle (like in Home Depot) so people pushing their carts in front of them can see the signs without having to push the cart forward and peek around into the aisle to squint at the signs overhead, then back up and go into the aisle if it's the correct one. read more

Horrible as usual. There was only 1 register open with a very long line so I went to the so called "express checkout" which says "15 items or less". I only had 4 things but the couple in front of me had at least 40 items and no employee told them to use the regular checkout as the "express checkout" is for customers with 15 items or less. When I finally got to the express checkout cashier I inquired as to why they post a sign saying "15 items or less" if they refuse to enforce it. I got no response from the cashier so I said "No answer?"... she finally replied "We don't tell the customers no". I told her they should take down the signs if they dont enforce their stated maximum number of items but instead they choose to penalize customers that follow the rules. read more

I wanted to leave a negative review due to the insanely long check out lines and saw that many other people already did!! Although the check out people are very nice they are sloooooow. There is no sense of urgency, they are sloth like!!! When I go to Trader Joe's and Aldi, this is not the case. Those stores show me that they value my time. Jewel does NOT. I try to avoid this store at all costs and now it won't be hard to do in the near future. Aldi is thankfully moving down the street. This is going to be a wake up call for Jewel. read more

Store is always fully stocked, people on the floor are helpful - need more cashiers at peak times - they always look stressed. Tonight was a bad visit - cashier was having conversation with bagger - Patty was telling a story about a phone call from some guy named Bill - who wasn't her husband at the time. Why am I telling you this in a review? Because this was my experience - no hello, goodbye, or thank you - just her her story. I dread going to this store line are always a nightmare no matter what time you go. It's dirty and overpriced for a jewel. Went yesterday and there were moldy carrots in the produce aisle unfortunately I had to use the rest room which was the most disgusting public restroom I've ever seen. Smelled like it hadn't been cleaned ever. No possible way the employees could not have been aware of the odor and filth which means it was just ignored. Unforgivable.
