We were in the area and stopped in here. We've never stepped foot into this particular Jewel, and it was a fine Jewel-Osco. On a late Saturday morning, the clientele were in the generally more elderly and calm category. They have a couple of extra wide aisles, so it may be a little more spacious here than in the average Jewel. Great and convenient strip mall location also at the intersection of Dempster St and Elmhurst Road. The self-checkout station also took cash in the form of a bill and coins and it was entertaining to see the klunky machine at work and returning change! No complaints for our only visit here. read more

Pharmacy is absolutely the worst around!! They don't care about the customer/patient AT ALL!!! They have a loud mouth rude lady that talks over you regarding your meds and questions and just refers everything to the doctor or insurance extremely unprofessional with the way she talks and behaves, then no one can do anything on life or death meds even on a emergency refill they said no! When Mark worked there it was so much better and nicer then these unprofessional pharmacist staff they have now!! read more

This is the second time in one month I have witnessed store employees not wearing masks. On each occasion I have spoken to the manager and today the deli manager , who was not wearing a mask while she was caring a tray of meat, told me masks are not required when not waiting on customers. When I explained it is also when prepareing and handling food she disagreed and continued to not wear a mask. This store is not taking precautions seriously or enforcing them. I would highly recommend not to shop at the store anymore. read more

The lady with the short reddish hair that work during the hours of 7am - 8am on self-checkout on 12/16/2023 is very rude. Whispering "f***king idiot" is totally uncalled for when asking a simple question. I immediately called to speak to a manager but was told they were not in at the moment to leave message. I came here searching for (3) 9" cherry pies in their bakery department. I found 2 of them and politely asked the girl behind the bakery counter if they had any more. She didn't respond to my question right away and finally said 'everything we have is out.' Not sure if this was true or not. I asked the same question in the bakery department at the Jewel on Dempster in Niles; they were happy to put the cherry pies they had in the freezer in the oven for me. Awesome! Obviously this employee didn't want to stop what she was doing long enough to check the bakery's freezer. I came here in dire need; I won't be back. read more

Moved to the area recently. Live a few blocks from this Jewel and decided to pick up a few things including a bottle of wine... about a year ago. I'm a senior citizen and a person of color. I don't necessarily look like a senior, but was with my 28 year old son. We decided to use the checkout lane and as we had a bottle of wine waited for the clerk to check my ID. When she approached us, an elderly, stout, Caucasian woman, as I was trying to hand her my driver's license, she kept demanding that my son show his license! My son kept telling her that he wasn't buying the wine, I was! She instead, repeatedly kept demanding that he show his license, while I also kept repeating that I'm the one purchasing the wine not him! Finally, when she refused to acknowledge me, I told my son to just ignore her and don't say anything! At that point, she turned to me and I handed her my license! No apologies, nothing!!! I had never in my life encountered such abhorrent behavior from a store clerk! We rarely shop there anymore because we were just appalled at her behavior! She never apologized or thanked us, just rudely walked away as if she had accomplished a major feat in her mind. Awful, despicable and racist behavior from a Jewel employee! read more

They are always so helpful, and make it easy, to help you pay and be on your way! Store is always clean. Great place to shop. The prices are very reasonable, they are not like the big box stores that over charge for items. Luv the prices. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable. Always nice and fully stocked here. Can always find what I go there for. Great place to shop for bulk items and they got all the candy we grew up on. Great experience! I received excellent assistance from the time I arrived until my car was loaded. I'm very pleased! Would gladly recommend to family and friends. read more

I've been shopping here for over fifteen years now and have seen a steady decline in the level of customer service (which used to be A+), to the point where long-term employees who actually seem to give a crap sometimes look like they're on the verge of tears. Out of frustration or embarrassment, I don't know, but today was the proverbial "last straw" for me. The store opens at 6am and I like to get there early on weekends when I know I have a lot to buy. A decision was made a few years ago to not have a Cashier working until 7am, forcing all customers to use the self-checkout lanes before that time. No big deal...I started going in later and would normally get to the one and only open Cashier lane by 7:30. Same routine today, only to find out that the Cashiers' hours have just been changed again and they don't start until 8am now. So what we had at 7:30 this morning was nothing short of an epic clusterfuck. One employee running around trying to work all self-checkout lanes as customers continued to get backed up in line. Since I had a cart full of stuff, it took me over 20 minutes to checkout, receiving no assistance whatsoever to help bag the groceries. I don't mind bagging them myself but it was a nightmare today as customers were lining up behind me. About halfway through, a young man showed up who I know helps bag groceries in the Cashier lanes and all he did was stand around like a deer in headlights. The fact that the "self-checkout" lanes require an employee's assistance for you to use coupons and pay by credit/debit card is a complete joke in itself that makes the process even slower. I felt bad for the woman who was running around trying to do it all because she was apologetic and clearly doing the best she could. Whoever made the decision to start the Cashier even later on the weekends shouldn't be in a position to make those decisions. I can understand it for weekdays but on a Saturday it was just plain stupid. There are plenty of other problems, too, such as expired products on the shelves, a shrinking selection of name-brand products to make room for generic crapola, and prices that still haven't come down low enough to compete with Meijer or WalMart. I won't even buy anything from the liquor section anymore because the bottles are caked with dust, which I have complained about twice in the past with zero results. I think I've kept coming here out of habit over the years and today was the last kick in the pants I needed to finally change my mind. read more

It would seem that this Jewel-Osco has the same Human Resources department as the Target in Rosemont. People have no idea what they are doing and aren't very helpful. I went to the service desk to get an I-Pass and had to wait 5 minutes before anyone showed up. Then the guy came out and disappeared into the back room for another 3 minutes. You'll be lucky if you can get any help in the aisles. I wish you the best with that one. The deli section had 5 kinds of roast beef and I was curious about Chicago Style, so I asked the man at the counter what exactly made it Chicago Style and his response was, "Um... I don't know. It, uh, tastes like... different. It's Chicago Style." I said, "Gee, that sure was helpful." WTF!?!?!? read more

I am giving one star since there is not a lesser grade. Friday night i was at the Butchers market around 6:30 and no one there, the bakery section had several people working, after 10 minutes I asked them for help and they announced "customer needs assistance at the market" 10 more minutes and no one. It's very noticeable the employees pick and choose who they are courteous and friendly to. Every time I go, the cashier will be totally nice and friendly to the person before me, but then the total opposite to me. This is why I always went to the self-checkouts--I wish they were still there. read more

This Jewel always has expired food in its dairy cases. Found yogurts dated two weeks ago in the front like they were trying to get rid of them. Isn't there someone who is supposed to be checking the dates and switching them out with fresh ones? No wonder everyone is shopping at the new Marianos, Jewel has no fresh food. read more

Not impressed with this location at all. Just shopped their produce department and veg's they packed in plastic containers for snacking are dated a WEEK ago. Freshness is not big in this department. In addition, several frozen items I have purchased felt like they had thawed and been refrozen. Things like Morning Star Griller Prime Patties and many different 'Frozen" pizzas. They need to monitor their freezer temps. I used to shop at this location several times a week. I can no longer shop there with confidence. read more

I couldn't get a "Hello" at the beginning of my transaction or a "thank you", "goodbye", or "have a nice evening".....as I was grabbing my bags to leave. Really!?!?!? Was I checked out by a human or a robot??? That's the number one thing I hate when checking out at a store. These employees need a lesson in good customer service! This is the closest Jewel-Osco around so I'm here several times a week. The cashiers and people bagging the groceries are always friendly. There are also self check-out lanes available which are sometimes faster.. The prices are reasonable, the produce is fresh, the bakery usually has what I need, there's a decent deli (with rotisserie chicken that is good for last-minute dinners)... I will say they don't stock every item I want (usually something off the natural food shelves), so sometimes I goto the Jewel-Osco near Randhurst... I've always had a positive experience here at this location, with the exception of they don't carry everything I'm looking for, but what store does??? read more

I love this Jewel Osco for two things. The coldcuts and French bread! I don't buy any other groceries from here (unless there's an awesome sale) due to the high prices. The ladies behind the coldcut counter usually are really nice, especially Anna! She is such a nice lady who always remembers me and we always have a nice convo while she slices the turkey! It's been about a year, I guess, since this Jewel-Osco was totally redone, inside and out, and I couldn't be happier about it. First of all, the building was pretty ugly before, which always annoyed me. Well, they gave it a whole new look, and it's actually attractive now! The inside is like a whole new world, and the best thing -- for me, anyway -- is that they now have many, many more natural and organic items. So much so, that I don't have to shop at Whole Foods as much anymore, where everything is much more expensive! Most things I used to have to go to Whole Foods for, Jewel now has -- things like Giovanni Shampoo, pasture-raised ground beef, and a pretty big variety of organic produce. I also LOVE the fact that there are no self-serve checkout stations anymore. They have plenty of staff and a number of express lines, and everyone who works there is very sharp! I couldn't wait for the nearby Mariano's to go up, but when it did, i only went there once. I like Jewel a lot better! read more

As we all are pretty much well aware, jewel SUCKS. Period. Everywhere. No matter what. It's expensive. People that work there hate their lives and the quality is generally shit. My wife picked up a lamb cake for Easter (I don't know why she would torture our family like that. I guarantee Jesus didn't die on the cross so we would eat shitty ass lamb cake). It tasted like chemicals and cardboard. Absolutely disgusting. Hey guys. Ever hear of making REAL buttercream???? I'd splurge the extra 50 cents to have buttercream made with real butter and powdered sugar and cake made right instead of garbage cake mix which even then is over baked. GROSS. I mean honestly. Any half witted idiot can make butter cream. You whip butter in a massive standing mixer and add powdered sugar, a splash of milk and some flavoring. DONE. What the fuck is so hard about that??? If Jewel put in some effort I'd go there but now that Marianos opened a mile away, I'll be going there. They at least try. read more

I really enjoy shopping at Jewel/Osco in Des Plaines on Elmhurst. the people are so friendly and willing to help. I especially enjoy seeing Mary at the camera counter. you can always count on her to be there to check you out. she is always smiling and friendly. knows your name and seems to enjoy being there. Unlike Diane the woman who works during the day. she is never at the counter. I have seen her outside smoking while there are lines inside at the counter. on the phone in the bathroom hanging by the lottery machine and even bagging for jewel when she should be at the camera counter. I have been told many times that the counter is closed by her. and also have seen her just standing there reading a magazine and when they have to call her to camera its like she is bothered and it doesn't help when she smells like she has alcohol on her breathe you really can't miss it. read more

While my cashier was more than friendly, my "red carpet" service at the service desk was less than stellar. I arrived with another customer being taken care of so I stood in front of the register with the open light on. Eventually another customer joined me in line and we both continued to wait for her to complete the transaction with the previous customer. While she finished up another gentleman approached with some lotto tickets and she proceeded to take care of him. The lady that was standing with me and i were in complete shock that she did not even acknowledge us. I said excuse me and she ignored us, I uttered this is ridiculous and it got her attention and she seemed surprised that we were waiting in line. We couldn't have been more than 4-5ft from the counter and she looked at us multiple times while taking care of the customer in front of us. What a complete disregard for customer service and hugely disrespectful. To make matters worse when I called the store to talk to the store manager she acknowledged that the CSR should have seen us because the she herself was next to the TCF counter and she saw us as well and yet she didn't do anything about it either. read more
