I am writing this review to formally express my concern regarding the billing practices at Monarch Lakes Dental Group where I recently received care. I was charged ahead of the service and was explicitly told that the amount quoted was the total I would be responsible for paying. However, after the service was completed, I was charged additional fees without my knowledge or consent. This situation reflects a serious miscommunication that appears to benefit the dental office financially, rather than the patient. Patients rely on clear, honest explanations of costs before agreeing to treatment. Changing charges afterward is misleading and unfair, especially to patients who may not fully understand dental billing or insurance procedures. I am deeply concerned that these practices take advantage of patients and create confusion that results in increased charges. Healthcare should never feel like a money-making scheme where patients are pressured or misled into paying more than what was originally agreed upon. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and that appropriate action be taken to ensure transparency, ethical billing practices, and patient protection, particularly with regard to practices that take advantage of insurance coverage and place an unfair financial burden on patients--especially vulnerable elderly individuals. read more

Awful customer service. Their appointment system does not work. They don't respect others people time.

While the care is amazing and the staff is super friendly, there are a few basic issues that need improvement. For instance, during early appointments (7:30 am and so on), there's no receptionist at the front desk. Despite ringing the bell, no one comes out to welcome or acknowledge you. I have had to wait more than 15-20 minutes several times for someone to notice my presence. Additionally, there's a constant push to have x-rays taken every visit, even though patients have current x-rays. This feels unnecessary and repetitive. The hygienist, Mayte, is exceptional. She is attentive, respectful, caring, welcoming, highly skilled, and professional. However, the office needs to improve its responsiveness to phone calls and messages. It takes several attempts to reach someone and get a response. Also, the appointment reminders are overwhelming. After confirming the appointment via email or text, the system continues to send multiple confirmation requests (3-5 times). The system needs to be fine-tuned to limit confirmations to just once or twice. This is going to affect their business if they continue in this manner. Im writing this while still in their office because I have tears in my eyes. My grandmother broke her molar early in the morning. She then disclosed that she's had pain for a couple of days. When I check, I see an abscess. She was so nervous. To be honest, I was as well because it did not look good and she's older. I called this office explained our situation. They were able to see her right away. Not only were they amazing over the phone, but the way they treated my grandmother made me so happy. The attention they gave her and how they calmed her honestly made me believe that there are still good people in the world. They were so thorough in explaining what the treatment might be and what our next steps were. I'm blown away by the staff and doctor's attention to detail, empathy and above and beyond care. So initially, they told me they couldn't do the mold for the partial crown in-house (even know another lady said that's what they do) and I had to go back at a later date. When I did go back, the piece to complete it didn't fit? Unprofessional and not fourth coming. I'm wondering if they simply didn't take my business seriously because I appeared younger. I was internally stressed because I no longer trusted her mid soon after the first filling appointment. I haven't cried in a dentist chair ever in my life and at 31 years old was feeling like I wasted my money and wasn't a valued client. If I could do it myself, I would. I went back to the office TWICE after everything was completed because my bite was completely screwed up. She had drilled and drilled trying to "ease the pressure from my bite," and when her assistant whispered something about drilling too much, Dr. Pozo whispered "Invisalign." So to say that it doesn't matter because I already expressed interest in Invisalign so whatever errors she was continuing with my overbite, will be fixed with them anyway. I'm disgusted in how they handled me. These visits began in August, I told them I was moving to LA and needed to have these fillings/partial crown done beforehand. It is now January 2024 and I still cannot chew food on my right side due to sharp pains and I have to be very careful in how and what I chew with my left side. I am paying back the money I used on my Care Credit card for these procedures and I'm at a loss for understanding of why. The total cost I am paying back is $1965 which will most likely be charged interest fees. I am so disappointed and quite furious with the lack of professionalism of this establishment. I don't know if it was coincidental that Madeline (dental office financial advisor) was not in her office the last two times I visited, had she been present I probably would've natural caused a scene and ended up exposing their workmanship on my social media account. I gathered myself and said I'd give it time to see if the pain on both sides would subside. They didn't and now here we are. I have to start this entire process over again and have another dentist in LA fix what Dr. Pozo, under the supervision of Dr. Barreto, did incorrectly. I do not have the money to do so currently so I'm debating what my legal options are. Where do I start? My wife had a root canal that they did and it got extremely infected. They had her return in 2 weeks for a crowned in the made her reschedule because it was not ready after 6 weeks it was finally ready. she had to go to another dentist do to a terrible infection and they stated the crown was not even meant for her. the new dentist said there was no way that crown was made for her because it did not even fit in the way Dr Barreto put the post in that caused a crack. $2000 later to fix her mouth I am broke. RAFAEL in the last week Be careful everyone, these people is all about the money, they did not just charge me $700 for a cleaning, now I lost my insurance and they don't want to finish the job after paying the whole amount on my first visit, instead they want me to pay an extra amount of $500 dollars more, yes for a cleaning. This office is a complete scam!! They invest more in marketing and legal fees than in service and quality. I was treated very disrespectfully by their staff and I am looking to report them to the better business bureau since no one should be treated like that. I suggest as an educated consumer that you don't use their services to try to educate this "professionals" about how to treat people. read more

This dental office is the reason I don't fear the dentist, as a kid who had to get braces I hated the dentist and I spent years without going! My store manager Andrea recommended me this dental office saying they were amazing and caring so I gave them a shot. And let me tell you this is the best decision I've ever made I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted from Dr. Barreto and I didn't even swell it was the total opposite of what I expected. But what keeps me going back is Mayte she does cleanings and she's so sweet and so gentle that if I lived a couple hours away I'd drive just to have her take care of me. I've gone to a few dentist in my life and Dr Baretto is by far one of the best. 10/10 would recommend to anyone's I've seen some of the comments on these post and they don't do this man justice. I been going here to get my teeth clean for a few times, and every time I come I get a bad service. All the dental hygienist always seem to rush you out the chair, going super fast. I am a nice person, I request a different hygienist to see if there is a more ethical one that takes their time , and it's all the same, they rush you in and out. And over charge you for a simple cleaning. The doctor over charge for everything, and can't get the job done on time; in other words keep you coming back over because they rather schedule their appointment time over yours . Today has been the worst, the lady clean my teeth in literally 15 - 20 minutes (Silvia). Super rushed job, what a waste of money! Horrible customer service. Big Scammers. No respect for peoples time or schedule. I also took advantage of there supposedly Groupon promotional whitening deal and they require a mandatory exam prior to administering the whitening, which has to be done on a separate visit. Upon my arrival for my initial exam, they start to tell me I have all these problems with my mouth regarding plague and they would have to do a cleaning prior to doing any whitening. Little did they know, I had a full x-ray, cleaning, and check-up from my primary dentist 2 weeks prior to going and I had NO PROBLEM at all with my mouth in regards to anything and my primary dentist clearly told me, whatever your doing, keep doing it as I'm doing a good job. When I told the hygienist I just had a cleaning and a exam after she told me all that sh!t, her mouth dropped and she changed the subject real quick and quickly sent me to a room to fill out some paperwork. Already sketchy on there shady business practice I still went ahead and scheduled for my whitening only for them to cancel and reschedule my appointment twice. Listen carefully... This dental office offers groupon discounts for teeth whitening I think I paid $99.00. It's a bleeding scam because unlike the facials or the spa deals that you buy they don't tell you that the dentist will mandate X-rays of your f*****g mouth which felt like I was getting a full Cerebral scan not to mention that it left my mouth with sores from the mouth piece the assistant was aggressively forcing into my mouth. Oh yeah that Cerebral scan is not for free it costs $75.00. God forbid they find a cavity even in your very last molar(which by the way doesn't get whitened) they will not do the whitening until you have them fix the problem. The story is not over yet, they also mandate that you do 2 cleanings prior to the whitening which will cost you a great discounted price of $89.00 PER Cleaning(that means $89.00x2). So there, if you're lucky and you don't have cavities your discounted teeth whitening just cost you $352.00. I wish they would have mentioned this in their deal otherwise I wouldn't have purchased this trap. I bought this deal because I'm getting married in 2 weeks and they will not do it unless I get all the other things done with them. I gave this business a one star but if i can give it a -5 star I would. Stay away from this place it's full of robbers!!! read more
