Wellness examine consisted of checking heart and range of motion on back legs. There was no examination of ears, eyes or any palpitation of body. My dog had numerous lumps on his body with one the size of a golf ball, none were detected by doctor. Lab showed abnormalities in urine. No x-ray or ultrasound was recommended. I have been going to Jester Plaza Veterinary Clinic for almost 10 years, and I find Dr. Lem to be a very caring and a good veterinarian. Dr. Lem is always willing to listen, to help and explain things to me about my dog's health and if there is anything concerning or a problem, she is willing to listen, and we can come to an agreement about whatever it is. The staff there is always helpful and willing to help also. Never had any problems with the staff unless they are new and learning the ropes at the clinic, only referring to return phone calls but that's really par for the course with any business. The techs all seem to be responsible and friendly. Prices seem inline as other veterinary clinics. I believe I have a good relationship with Dr. Lem and everyone because the years I have been with them; they know me, and they know my dogs. read more

Very disappointed with my experience here. On a Friday, I brought in my 10 year old cat because she had recently refused to eat dry food and was losing weight rapidly. I was clearly showing concern when I came in but felt more shamed by the vet than anything else for ever feeding my cat dry food because apparently they're never supposed to eat dry food despite other vets recommending it to me (when the appointment ended they handed me a goodie bag that had dry food in it for cats so also ???). They ran bloodwork that day to figure out what could be going on and said I would hear back by Tuesday at the latest. My cat threw up all weekend and I was super worried so I called in Monday and Tuesday but they still had not received results, which they admitted was "strange". I called every day that week to check in with no results coming back. Finally, a week from the day they took bloodwork they still had not called me and I asked if we should maybe reach out to the lab to see why it was taking so long. They said they would call them and call me back. They never did. The next Monday, frustrated to no end, I called when they opened to see if they had received the results and if not I wanted to request a refund because this was ridiculous. They mentioned that they had finally received the results but the vet would have to explain them to me and she would call me ASAP. At 5:30 PM before they closed I called to see if she could speak to me as I am so concerned about my pet. They said she may not be able to get to me today and she would call when she had time. At this point, I ask for them to directly email ME the results so I could reach out to another vet and have HER explain the results to me. I received the results within a couple of minutes, called another vet, and they explained them to me immediately. I know this is a long story, but after having great experiences with vets most of my life, I was SHOCKED that this place kept making promises, saying they'd call, saying the vet would reach out, and then nothing happened until I already had to reach out to another vet! I would never take any of my pets to this location ever again if you actually have concerns about your animals. Awful service and the location itself is also kind of sketchy. Side note- they also did that thing where they recommend 800 services on your first visit despite you explaining that you really just want to focus on the problem at hand and don't want all these additional services, so if you have social anxiety or anything about turning down additional services I'd avoid this place. read more

I assume that they're competent vets, but the place feels like a giant up sell from start to finish. I found a dog on the street, young and healthy other than being a little skinny. I decided to adopt him, and I took him here for a basic check up and shots. Total price: ~$650! I had them take off the flea medication and another charge that looked unnecessary, and I walked out paying ~$550. Felt very over charged, but I was already there, so... I came back a few weeks later for the booster shots, and noticed that the waiting area was filled with "hill's science diet" for sale. While I was waiting a woman came in saying she was told she had to buy some fish oil for her dog. I asked about neutering... $350. Humane society does it for $85. Also, I came in for three vaccines. Arrived on time, they took my dog back right away... they told me it would be fast... why does it take 45 minutes to give 3 shots? I understand it's a business, and the staff is very friendly, but if you're someone who worries about whether they're being over charged, you'll probably be happier somewhere else. read more

This is the absolute WORST clinic I have ever worked for . I honestly only pulled off what I could to collect my bag and get back on my feet for the time being . Kristina cares about this type of stuff (reviews, feeling included, feeling higher, controlling, or just making sure everybody's all on the same page AS HER THO). Her entire time at the job she's complaining or making incompetent elementary requests as (showing the staff how to properly clean a table with SOAPY water first THEN using Kennnasol and letting it sit for 10 minutes) because we're kids and I'm guessing to slow to put 1 and 2 together in the first place . Thats why she hired us right ?!?! ON TOP OF THAT Lady Goofy decided everybody (techs/assistants) should gather around in treatment JUST SHOW SHE CAN SHOW US ROOMS 3 stethoscope was in Room 2 and vice versa . Like PLEASE SHUT THE ENTIRE F*** UP. Like does the heart beat different cause it's not the same stethoscope? You hear differently? The heart switch sides and only work when the stethoscopes match the room ?!?! DONT BE GOOFY! She overworks , understaffs, over exhaust and underpays ALL OF HER EMPLOYEES and the highest paid tech is the one who can't tape or place a catheter and skills are no further than puppy boosters and cytopoint injections (a full annual is too much tea for her chile) NOT TO MENTION back to the Dr. the audacity the throw stones and hide her hands after she spoke down on an high school intern 50 years younger than her just because she didn't "understand". Yes doc that's what happens when you're in high school and you're and UPCOMING intern you learn until you're taught . Whats wild is she was so bold UP UNTIL her mama called and handed her , her entire a** back now she riding so hard she posting the girls tictoc in the old work group chat talking bout some "i don't even be on tictoc but I care across these two lovely ladies , talkin bout they looked beautiful " which they did BUT that same tic toc video was there 5 months ago you mean to tell me with the same number you BEEN having it just alerted you that her account by that number is on tictoc. OK BOOKIE. She and her lead tech THINK they can talk to people all types of crazy but what said is only one of them was actually responsible in me getting my check so she only got respected AT WORK. Kristina can't play me or play with me past her office door . However that lead tech of hers was NEVER successful and FAILED every time she tried it. I was there wanting to get some information to see if want to start taking my four dogs. The young girl in the front was very helpful and professional. I wish I could say the same about one of the other employees there; an African American older lady in black scrubs was behaving rudely towards her fellow coworkers. How can I expect my dogs to be treated nicely when that lady has the nerve to be unprofessional in-front of potential customers. Where do I start and I'm hoping this review will help someone from making the same mistake that my mom and I made. We were referred by a neighbor to Jester Plaza Veterinary Clinic and we were trying to have surger done for my moms dog. My mom asked the doctor about pricing and my mom in no way was trying to barter with the doctor on pricing just simply trying to understand all of the cost for charges. The next day my mom recieved a call from the office manager about referring my mom to go see a spayed/nueter clinic (I'm serious) to have the surgery done. I immediately called to find out why Jester Plaza Vet Clinic was pawning us off on someone else after we had just spent $460 on testing for the dog. The office mad us feel like we couldn't affort the surgery cost which could be nothing further from the truth. Lastly, I recieved a text from the office about the surgery conformation whcih I'm sure was an automaic thing and I called the office the front desk person whom I told we did not want to have surgery done and she hung up the phone on me. Rude to say the least. I have written and revised this review due to a very negative experience with Jester Plaza Vet Clinic. Mr. Steve Lem and Dr. Lem requested that I revise my review to state the facts. Both Mr. Lem and Dr. Lem expressed that the procedure performed on our cat was necessary. However, Mr. Lem stated in an email to us that their "normal procedure is to inform clients of any changes. This did not occur." This procedure was not part of the treatment plan nor did they inform my wife of the change before performing it. It is our opinion that performing a procedure on our cat without first getting consent and without any notification is unprofessional and unethical. Per their request the facts of our experience with their Vet Clinic are as follows: - Jester Plaza Vet Clinic threatened legal action against my wife and I after my first review. - My wife took our cat to Jester Plaza Vet Clinic to have a chest x-ray. - Jester Plaza Vet Clinic performed an enema on our cat without our consent. - Jester Plaza Vet Clinic sent our cat home with my wife without informing her that they had performed an enema on our cat. - Our cat vomited 7 times, defecated 6 times and urinated 3 times for two hours after my wife brought her home. This happened in various parts of our apartment...on our bed, in the closet, on our sofa, on the living room floor, on the dining room floor, on the bedroom carpet, on the coffee table, and on the living room chair. - My wife tried calling Jester Plaza Vet Clinic to find out what happened to our cat but they were closed. - My wife was terrified, panicked and sobbing because we did not know what was wrong with her. We were about to take her to an emergency hospital. The reason we did not was because my wife called a close friend of hers who works for Nationwide Pet Insurance and she talked her through her state of distress and we agreed that if our cat continued vomiting and uncontrollably defecating and urinating for another hour after the initial bout we would take her to emergency. She did not continue, so we did not take her to emergency. - The following day my wife called Jester Plaza Vet Clinic and asked them to email the invoice from our cat's appointment. After receiving and reading the invoice we discovered that our cat had received an enema that WAS NOT included in the treatment plan that my wife signed upon arriving at the clinic. - My wife requested to receive a refund for the cost of the enema since my wife did not consent to it and because she was not notified of the procedure. Dr. Lem spoke to my wife over the phone and she was deeply apologetic about what we had all gone through and agreed to refund the cost of the enema to her credit card. - After some miscommunication through phone calls and emails over the next few days about whether my wife needed to bring her credit card in to receive the refund, the refund was finally corrected from a credit to her client account at the clinic, to a refund to her credit card as originally requested and agreed upon with Dr. Lem. - My wife and I requested to receive additional compensation but Jester Plaza Vet Clinic refused to provide any service recovery in the form of additional compensation. read more

I used to come to Dr. Lem from 2019 to early 2020 before my husband and I moved into our house in Spring Shadows. We went to Bingle Vet for a bit and I wasn't near as happy with the staff nor the vets as I was at Jester Plaza. I'm so happy with all of the staff here. I come in early in the mornings for appts right now so I show up a bit out of it/sleepy/maybe a little grumpy (just me in the mornings sometimes) but I try not to show it hahaha. I love the staff even if they don't know or realize it. They're on their game, on time, on point, and so friendly. Keep it up guys. I recommend my friends to come here. They won't regret it. I don't even know where to begin.....Dr.Kristina Lem is literally the most RUDEST person I think I've ever worked for, she treats her staff with absolutely no respect whatsoever, most days we all feel dumb because in her eyes nothing we do is right on any level, I have seen so many employees come and go within the short period of time that I've worked here, this one poor girl had an emergency on her second day working there that involved her child in the hospital with Covid, they refused to let her leave and then told her not to tell anyone in the clinic that we are all basically Now exposed, needless to say she didn't come back! And let's not even talk about how they don't train you to do ANYTHING and then you get treated like shit because you're doing something wrong.....They lack basic human dignity. I got fired for "gossiping" for voicing my opinion about the Dr and her evil, twisted, and wicked ways.....I wouldn't even come here as a damn client. Dr. Kristina Lem has been my favorite vet by far in years! My family owns Critter Cleaners and we have been established since the 80's in Oak Forest. We have been involved and loyal to all of our local veterinarians but I can't recommend Dr. Lem enough. She takes so much time with your pet and with you in the room; she understands your time and schedule as well and how pricy vet visits can be over time (especially with my dogs!) This is the first time I've been able to get a refill on my dogs' prescriptions without having to pay for a vet visit each time. She is so personal, accountable and knowledable. I often see her staying late after hours, always with an office door open where my dogs usually run to to greet her or say goodbye. If I call the office with questions she responds within in the day and calls me herself (even when it involves my pet insurance which is not her job, she always tries to help!) She also follows up and with genuine concern. She has helped in the healing process tremendously for my sweet basset Hound Copper these last 6 months, providing a very detailed plan beyond treating symptoms but optimizing his strength and health. Him and I both were so excited to see her so we could show how handsome and healthy he is now! She is a wonderful person and leads a fabulous team. Everyone is friendly here and loves the animals. You can trust and depend on her, and you always leave knowing you received the utmost care and compassion for your pet and YOU Thank you Dr. Lem, We love you!! I also want to add how much I appreciate her detail and explanations; she gives so many "why's" to what she does in her treatment plans. Things change in the course too and she takes steps according to her findings, acts promptly and does what is best for your pet at the time. She doesn't treat every pet condition the same and considers all the factors. The communication is everything, she has delivered that better than any vet I've worked with. OMG so I called and asked about an RX food that my baby has to eat per this vet and after putting me on a delivery service every 3 months for a food refill that was 50.00 and sent only once, I called them cause the price went up to 75.00 and without any reason. They told me that they were gonna check on it and call me right back. Well I informed the young lady I needed to know soon cause I had about a week and a half left of her food leftover she said not a problem I would hear from them by the end of the day. Unfortunately due to the unprofessionalism they never called me and I called them back a week later and comes out that they admitted not responding nor returning my call and told me the prescription food could not be ordered cause my baby wasn't seen within the year. That's when I informed them about the situation and they said that they would not honor it cause I would have to see the vet, which is understandable but I now live in FL. I told them they could have informed me about this a week ago, and the lady said well you're welcome to come in when you're in town, I was like lady if you can't be professional enough to return a call I would rather see another vet than waste my time with an office that is unprofessional. I used to take my puppies here when I lived in the area. It was a 5 minute block from my apartment. The vets and the staff are very nice and caring. I used their pet daycare often and my pups loved it there. The only bad thing is that they charge you higher prices. I compared teeth cleaning costs and neutering costs with Heights Vet, and it was more than double. Same with vaccination. I'd still recommend it if price is not very important. The husband-wife vet team is really good. Definitely go there for boarding your dogs if price is not an issue. read more

Jester Plaza is a wonderful vet. I moved to the area two years ago and Jester Plaza seemed like a great choice -- we haven't been disappointed. Dr. Shaver is just fantastic! She went to A&M vet school and is the kindest and most patient vet I've ever had. Blake is one of the vet techs there and is super awesome. My dog is shy yet loves going to Jester Plaza...in fact, I think she has a crush on Blake! They are all so knowledgeable and helpful answering all my questions. I haven't kept my dog or cat there for boarding or day care, so I can't speak to that. However, the veterinary care is exceptional. So happy to have such good people in my 'hood. read more

My neighbor just got a bloodhound puppy and didn't have a vet yet. One day she called me and asked me where I took my pets and the phone number. Her puppy was in great pain and throwing up. She call jester plaza vet but it was surgery day and weren't seeing patients. However when my neighbor explained the situation, Dr. Lem said she would postpone her next surgery to see the puppy. I think that was awesome of Dr. Lem. The puppy ended up having to have surgery to remover a poker chip that she had eaten! Way to go Jester Plaza Clinic! read more

Rude, expensive, disrespectful and unprofessional. I took my dog there for 2 years and always had the impression that some unnecessary exams , tests and service were "strongly recommended". Today was the last time I put a foot there... I got my dog back after one week of boarding, 3 baths ( in 1 week!!!) 1 for free, 2 charged because the dog has peed in his kennel ( if you take him out of the kennel early this does not happen...) and a 2 inches cut on the cheek that nobody had noticed... After exam i was asked when i could potentially come back for stitches...i asked for it to be done today ( saturday) because i have things to do on monday (like most people) There answer was "Well, we have other things to do too"...nice way to treat customers, especially when i just paid 400 USD for one week of boarding, 1 stomach deworming , 2 baths and a pack of dog food. I got a 30 USD ointment to apply for a week, hoping "It should get better by itself without the need for stitches"... Very bad service, expensive and unfriendly people. They care more about emptying your wallet than they care about your dog... BTW, after cleaning the wound myself, it appears the dog has been scratched so bad it does not have hairs anymore on a spot twice the size of a quarter, bare flesh... read more

Took my dog for 2 months for daily dog daycare. They had a good price and seemed very friendly and caring about my pup. They keep most of the dogs in a smaller walled off area that they can hang out and play in. While this seemed like a good idea, I picked him up today and he wreaked of urine. This is not the first time this has happened, but before I had given them the benefit of the doubt. I've noticed now he tends to smell more often than not when we pick him up there. It's not like he spent the night or weekend there, he is there for 6-8 hours during the day. I believe that they do not clean that walled off area behind the desk which results in the dogs lying around all day in each others urine or other dogs marking their territory on poorly cleaned spots. He also comes home and drinks the entire bowl of water every single time I bring him home. I've called and informed him that he does this and they claim that they have water out and available but I find it very hard to believe based on how he comes home and always goes straight to the water bowl and doesn't stop till he is done. They are currently running a special, if you give them positive reviews on yelp or citysearch they will give you $15 credit. This seems like a shady way to get good reviews to me. Nice, friendly people and I wanted this to work because my dog doesn't need to be in the house all day, but the day care has consistently let me down with their lack of cleanliness and attention to the dogs needs. I got prescription flea medicine here for my two cats. I had used Frontline and such before with less than stellar success. This stuff killed the fleas 100% with one application! Service here was fast and they gave helpful suggestions on how to completely eliminate the flea infestation and keep it gone. Staff was friendly and it was a nice environment. We've been taking our cats to the Jester Plaza Vet Clinic for as many years as Dr. Burda has had his practice there (10-15? - a long time). Dr. Burda and his entire staff are wonderful! I would not want to take my pets anywhere else. Sadly, today we had to euthanize one of our babies. Her passing was dignified, and the staff were all very compassionate. Another of my cats was just diagnosed as diabetic. Dr. Burda took a great deal of time to explain to us in detail how to manage her care and treatments at home. He gave us a wealth of information, and I am grateful for his assistance. I don't think you can find better care for your furry family members than this clinic. My boyfriend picked up my dog for me this morning and when they got home, all I could smell was urine. He wreaked, his bed was soaked, and he was panting so hard and stressed out. I have left him here twice before without any issues, but never again. We called and asked about urine and their response was it happens often! It only happens if you don't take them out! He is a big boy (120 lbs) and has the ability to hold his pee for hours. I am really upset that he was so stressed out and was sleeping in urine. His bed is still wet and smells even after washing the cover. It costs me $80 and now I have to replace it!! I feel they should reimburse me. I have brought my two dogs to Dr. Burda for the past couple of years. The facilities are clean and the staff is friendly and efficient. Dr. Burda treats my dogs with dignity and love. He does a great job of explaining situations without resorting to medical gobblygook, and lays out treatment alternatives. He is never one to push for the most expensive alternative either. Used to absolutely love this place when I lived close by. They were really friendly and I loved how great the staff was. First thing about the place, I've never seen the same vet twice and I don't remember any of their names. 2nd I had a horrible experience with them when my dog had some bad symptoms they charged me $1000 to do a bunch of bs that didn't even solve anything and in fact they never found out what was wrong with my dog. Their next suggestion was to do an MRI on the dog staring at something like $2000. My dog was completely fine the next day. It was a complete scam. 3rd they never called to even see how my pet was doing after I dropped a grand on their services and their less than adequate diagnosis abilities. 4th my dog had tape worms he weighs 2lbs they gave my gf full bottle of pills that said take all. My gf questioned why there was so much and they told her it was accidentally filled by someone who wasn't paying attention. They were very apologetic but their sloppy instructions could have killed my dog for all I know. 5th the lady straw was when I brought my dogs in for routine maintenance shots and they gave me a quote for another $1000 for dental work. They overcharge. They make you feel like you're an absolute POS if you don't empty your wallet for them. I'm glad I'm moving not going to miss this place. read more

We started taking our dog here after my in-laws recommended it. The people here are wonderful and caring, as well as patient with our "spunky" puppy (as Dr. Shaver calls him). The fabulous techs and staff all know us and our dog by name, and are so accomodating, even when we drop him off for day care or boarding at the last minute. He loves it here and comes home appropriately exhausted from a day of play with other dogs! Our pet's checkups are very thorough, and they follow up with us to make sure we bring him in for all of his boosters as well. When we had an emergency issue while we were about 1.5 hours out of town, Dr. Burda provided us with the names of some nearby vets so we didn't have to drive back into Houston. This kind of care is exactly what kept my in-laws bringing their pets here for a decade, and they have certainly made happy customers out of us as well - we very highly recommend them! read more

I wanted everyone to know how much my daughter, Jessica and I appreciate Dr Lem and her caring staff. When we were in dire need of help for Copper, our 9 month old Basset Hound, we called every clinic in our area and no one had time for him. I called Jester Plaza 10 minutes before closing time and Dr Lem said she would stay and wait for us to bring him in. We were so scared for Copper and Dr Lem's kindness was overwhelming because we really didn't know what we were going to do. When we arrived at the clinic, I could see how tired Dr Lem was and realized she took Copper because she really loves dogs and wants to help. She didn't know us and yet she went out of her way to comfort us as well as take care of Copper. I even think she sleeps there at times to watch over the sick pets. Because of Copper's complicated issues I can honestly say she will do her very best to help every pet in her care. read more

Let me first say that I never write reviews, but after reading some of the poor reviews here I feel compelled to share our experiences we've had with the clinic. We've taken our two elderly cats to Jester Plaza since 2010. The first one passed away in 2012 and our second cat passed away a few days ago at the age of 21. Over the course of 20 years, I haven't been to a clinic that has such professional, caring staff and competitive prices. We especially like Dr. Burda's bedside manner. We've never felt he recommended unnecessary treatment. In fact, we appreciate that he reels us back in. If you're new to the area, please give Jester Plaza a try. I have been using Dr. Burta and Jester Plaza Vet Clinic since I moved to Houston six years ago. I have been more than pleased with the service, professionalism and compassion of all of the staff. Once when I was out of town (to bury my only sister) my pet sitter noticed a problem with one of my dogs. One call to the clinic from Ohio and I did not have to worry. The vet and vet tech made arrangements to come to my home to treat my Blondie. They gave up their lunch hour to make my worry about my dog vanish. I would give this place a much higher rating if it were not for my last visit to get my female older kitty's prescription filled she suffers from an ailment that requires her to take a pill every other day and was diagnosed over two years ago with this problem she must take this pill for the rest of her life she is 14 this year and I would love to see her reach 20 if I can. I was presented with a list of tests the doctor wanted to do with a price of over $300.00 dollars, I did not say she had any problems I just needed the medication I had no problem with her being looked at yearly but I was in sticker shock with the pricing since it cost me just over $8.00 dollars at Costco Pharmacy for her medication. I have since taken her to another vet for a second opinion and am looking for a less expensive way to get the needed prescription she requires. Over all Jester Plaza has a caring staff and I trust the Doctors there just the cost has me looking elsewhere. I may not fare any better but I will look. read more
