Took me a while to finally write a review for this clinic. I recently made the difficult decision to put my sweet girl down. This clinic made this difficult day so peaceful for me and my girl. Cookie got to have so many treats during her last moments. Throughout the entire process Dr. Patton and her amazing team of techs were patient and empathetic during the entire process. I had been taking Cookie to this clinic when we first moved to Houston. They performed the majority of all her big surgeries and took care of her routine checkups. They were always thorough with the information they provided, professional, and just wonderful to work with. If you live in the area I would highly recommend taking your pets here. I scoured yelp reviews looking for a new vet and gave this one a chance when I called and spoke to an incredibly kind & polite lady who answered all my questions and went out of her way to email me directions and break down of costs for what I needed for my dog. Now I wish my old vet closed sooner and I would've found them sooner haha! This place is filled with the most caring people. They take their time and answer any and all questions. After the poor service we have received at another veterinary clinic, we decided to try Bissonnet Southampton Veterinary Clinic based upon location, reviews and the qualifications of their resident veterinarians. In this difficult time for our country and the world, it has been a challenge for everyone to adapt as we climb out of this pandemic, but this clinic exceeded expectations on every level. First, I was greeted at the door as i entered the facility with my Frenchie. As protocol, they provided me a mask to wear for the duration of my visit, which was fine as long as I didn't have to leave my dog with them as I sat in the parking lot. I was immediately taken to an exam room where a tech took the vitals and information needed on the condition of my pet. Within 5 minutes, the vet came in and could not have been more professional, friendly or attentive. This is the kind of service pet owners crave when the care of their loved ones is at stake. I felt very comfortable with the entire staff and the medications prescribed were thoroughly explained to me during the visit. I liked this vet clinic, at least initially. Gradually began to dislike it a tad because it reminds me of car dealership - always trying to up-sell. I adopted cat number one a year and a half ago and brought him to this vet for his initial exam and follow-up vaccines. The initial examination was free, presumably because he was adopted from BARC, but it's not like there wasn't plenty of moolah to be reaped from his many many ailments. The vet (An interim vet, possibly? As her credentials were never on display and I think she may no longer be with this particular practice) did prescribe my cat L-Lysine and antibiotics for his upper respiratory infection, as he was sneezing blood and had a bit of a fever. Presumably they were effective as he was nearly 100% recovered by his follow-up visit. However, during the follow-up visit, after it was discovered he also had a terrible ear mites infestation - there was a HUGE sell on the feline leukemia vaccine. Given that my cat was going to remain an indoor cat (save for the occasional supervised playtimes on the patio), I didn't feel it was necessary, especially since a family friend's cat had become seriously ill after the vaccine and the vet for our family indoor cats had always recommended opting out of the vaccine for them. The vet then proceeded to present this hypothetical - what if my cat escaped outside somehow and engaged in a bloody fight with another feline leukemia-infected cat? It would be a surefire death sentence! Why not just vaccinate him to prevent such a tragedy? Um okay, way to effectively guilt-trip me! So yes, I reluctant agreed to vaccinate him. Then there was an intense insistence that I absolutely had to purchase the vet's prescription strength (thus a bit pricier than usual) flea, tick, and heartworm preventative. At first I politely declined as I was planning on online ordering bulk ordering preventative topical treatments and also yes, my cat would be largely indoors so I didn't feel there was an urgent need for the hardcore preventive treatments, but the vet chided me for not considering a heartworm preventative - I mean, what if a heartworm carrier mosquito flew into my house and bit my cat?! He would contract heartworm and heartworm is very difficult to treat when it comes to cat - it would essentially also be a death sentence! So um, okay, sure . . . I guess I'll go ahead and purchase some of that because there's nothing more compelling than the threat of death . . . I felt very strange and uncomfortable about my visit here and now that I've now adopted cat number two and opted for another less forceful vet, I'm content to three star Bissonnet-Southampton Vet Clinic. Not to say this isn't an excellent vet clinic with a compassionate and competent staff, I've just never been one for the aggressive sell/treatment tactics and I'm quite happy with my current vet for now. read more

I always preferred this vet over others I had been to. They always answer the phone and always treated my Luna and Manos with respect and love. When it was time to let go of Manos they were so sweet and respectful and it was honestly the most beautiful thing to know that they didn't think he was just a cat, they understood that he was my friend! and that I spent a lot of energy taking care of him. My family have taken our dogs to this vet for 15 years, but only recently have I really realized how incredible this place is. I have been in contact daily for my puppy Graham, who ate Sago Palm and has been struggling with liver failure. Usually this type of toxicity requires ICU care, but we were unable to afford 7+ days of inpatient stay at a local ER. Instead, Dr. Alexander and Dr. Desai have managed his care and have gone so far above and beyond their duties that I will never be able to thank them enough, regardless of what happens with our Graham. Dr. Desai specifically went COMPLETELY out of her way to ensure that Graham still achieved the best care possible - consulting with ICUs in the area, calling me with updates, trying to feed him every 2 hours HERSELF, and more. She has taken cost-effectiveness into consideration with all of our treatment decisions, and has involved us in his care every step of the way. And the front desk? I can't say enough about how kind all of those women have been to me and my incessant calls and my sobbing face. They've also been incredibly kind and comforting to Graham. When we come in, Graham immediately goes straight behind the front desk to say hi versus shaking in fear like he does at other vets/ERs. Graham is still battling and we are unsure what will happen next, but if he makes it I know it will be because of the care they have provided him. Ordered a 3 month supply of Nexgard and prescription was initially approved. I never received my order so i contacted vetsource and they agreed to send a replacement order. However, Bissonnet Southampton denied the replacement order. When i contacted them they and explained the situation, they refused to approve the order and instead said i was welcome to purchase a one month supply. So, Im out the 90 dollars from my original purchase that I never received and they want me to purchase more. read more

This past Saturday, my roommates and I had to put down our 14-year-old cat. This is not something I'd normally write a review for, but this clinic made a very sad time so much easier on us and I wanted to share my experience. First of all, everyone who spoke with us was very sensitive to how much pain we were in. When the vet initally broke the news to my roommate on Friday when she took in our cat for a checkup, my roomie said the vet teared up when she saw how upset my roomie was. Then, when we brought in our cat the next day, they gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. They explained everything to us so we weren't surprised at all. So much compassion was greatly appreciated. Secondly, they offer a free clay imprint of your pet's paw. I don't know if this is common, but it really meant a lot to us. Thirdly, you don't have to worry about payment that day - they send you the bill so you don't have to sit there sobbing all over your checkbook. It's the little things like this that really made our experience. Fourth and most important, they were incredibly gentle with our cat. She was suffering from kidney failure and had gone from healthy and active to skin-and-bones in less than a week, and she was clearly in pain. Seeing them do everything they could to make sure she was comfortable and happy meant the world to us. If we decide to get another pet, we will definitely be taking that pet to this clinic. I came to Bissonnet-Southampton Veterinary because they are one of the few offices in Houston that will take hedgehogs and I could not have been more impressed. The front desk is extremely warm and friendly and Dr. Alexander is a gem. Pricing was pretty standard. Dr. Alexander was very compassionate in telling me that my hedgie had a tumor, gave me various options, and handled him with extreme care. When I ended up putting him to sleep, the staff put out tissues and flowers, gave him some final treats, and allowed me to pay at a later date. These thoughtful touches really made an awful day suck a little bit less and proved to me that they genuinely care about their clients and animals. When little Layton dog was adopted over the summer we knew we had to find a place close by that would treat him well. After going to a few the HSPCA "recommended" I wasn't happy at all. After reading reviews and getting some recommendations from people we brought him here and have been happy with this decision. It's true that I probably pay more with the services then another vet but I'm OK with this. Although we only have been using them for about 6 months we have gotten nothing but great service. First thing first: This review is solely based on the bird boarding, staff and general attitude we experienced at the clinic and not the veterinarians. The summary of my review is this: If you don't mind being surprised with new fees/policies that they claim to have overlooked and you're fine with paying $200 initially for multiple tests and a veterinary inspection + daily boarding this might be the place for you and your pet. Here's our experience with this Bissonnet-Southampton Veterinary clinic: We wanted to board our cockatiel somewhere close to home in the inner loop as opposed to a great place in Richmond where we've been taking him for boarding. We decided to try the Bissonnet-Southampton Veterinary Clinic for two reasons: 1) because it was convenient and 2) even though it was a bit expensive it had great reviews. We called to make a reservation and they told us that our bird would have to have a yearly veterinary examination and fecal test before boarding and that that would cost around $100 + tax. That seemed a bit steep but we understand that they want to make sure of the health of the animals that they're taking care of so we happily agreed. Our bird had all the tests done, passed with flying colors (other than being 6g on the heavy side and was boarded there a few times. Cockatiels are social animals and very easy birds to take care of. All you need to do is have them in an environment where they are around people or other animals give them 1 tablespoon of feed and replace their water once a day and clean the cage liner maybe once every 2-3 days. We asked about where they keep the birds and they said they board them in the break room where the staff have their lunches so he get's maybe an hour a day or so of interaction which is less than our bird is used but better than nothing. Up until this point, everything was fine. The other day, we called as we usually do to confirm our bird's boarding, and we were told that he needs have some type of blood test done and that although it was extremely unlikely that cockatiels would have whatever they were testing it was company policy that all birds being boarded undergo this blood test. We asked if this was new and told them that we had boarded him there multiple times before and that they never mentioned blood work, they said that they overlooked it. OK, so apparently they overlooked this multiple times. That doesn't inspire confidence in me but lets continue. Then I asked how much this test was going to cost, we were put on hold for many minutes until we were told it would be an additional $95. At this point I was quite annoyed. I told them that this was the first that they mentioned this and asked if I was right in understanding that I needed to pay $200 before the daily boarding fee. At that point the person on the phone repeated that they overlooked it before. I told her that wasn't my question and she repeated that they overlooked it before. I said thank you, bye. She said bye and I hung up. If they had told me up front that it would have cost $200 to start boarding and require multiple tests, blood work, veterinary inspections, I might have either agreed or taken our business elsewhere. Being hit with this additional procedure out of the blue and claiming it had always existed and that they forgot to tell us about it multiple times just doesn't work for me. It either means that they're sloppy with their practice or that this was all intentional. I don't know which one's worst. Looks like we'll be making the extra 30 minute drive to Richmond whenever we want to board our bird. read more

My dog has had reoccurring bladder infections for the past 5 years, and this clinic was the only clinic that was very proactive about treating it, finding the cause and preventing it from happening in the future. I can really tell that they care about my dog, and that to me is worth the price which I don't think is that much more expensive than your regular clinic. It does get pretty busy on Bissonnet though, so you might want to schedule a visit during non-rush hour. read more

This has been my vet for the past 2+ years and it's time to update my review and give this place the 5 stars it deserves. After my first visit, I started seeing Dr. Nealon who I like much better. She always takes the time to check my dog head to tail and go over any concerns in detail. I had only been in for scheduled check-ups until a few weeks ago when my dog managed to do the doggie equivalent of twisting your ankle. I called and was able to bring her in right away to be seen which was fantastic. The front desk staff is always friendly and I love that they call to check up on the dogs the next day. read more

For all true pet lovers out there, this is by far the best vet you could possibly take your baby to. From the minute you enter, you can feel the difference. When usually vet clinics are cold and clinical and littered with posters warning pet owners about all the things you are doing wrong for your pets, this place seemed more like a pediatrician's office. There were happy pictures of real pets, with thank you messages from their owners all over the waiting area. Furthermore, the front desk staff was much more helpful and friendly than normal. Then both the vet and vet tech were wonderful!! My little Iggy Pop is usually terrified to go to the vet, but they both spoke to her the whole way through her exam and eased her into everything. They explained each step to both of us and 5 minutes into it, my dog was sitting comfortably on the exam table, instead of shaking and clawing towards me like she usually does. This is the first time that I did not feel like I was being scammed or pressured into paying for unneccessary or excessive things at a vet's office and they were truly compassionate and clearly loved pets and loved their job. I would STRONGLY recommend this vet clinic to anyone and everyone and I am so happy and relieved to found an excellent vet. read more

I very much appreciate the gentle compassion of everyone at Bissvet. The docs have always been sweet and attentive, and we've always come away with clear information and confidence that our cats and dog are being treated well. I always tell Radar the cat it won't be so bad, and sure enough, it isn't. In fact, after this most recent visit, he hasn't even run off to hide. He's been cheerful and relaxed even after getting home from his check-up. I take it as a good sign that even if it's unpleasant to get poked and prodded, he seems to feel well-treated. I used to take my puppy to the Banfield pet clinic in petsmart. Big mistake. They have that puppy package that is what tempted me. So, as soon as that year contract was up I was on the hunt for a new vet. It's been a year now at bissonnet-southampton. It's a small cute place. its extremely user friendly, they always have appointments available the same day/week that I call. Minimal waiting compared to other places I tried. Very Competitive prices, especially for such a small place. My favorite vet apparently just left, but I just had an appointment with another and everything went great. The reception staff are very friendly and give my pup lots of treats so he gets excited. Unlike other yelper reviews. I've never been pressured into buying anything there. I've never used their boarding services. read more

My boyfriend and I adopted our dog from the SPCA, so we aren't too sure of her previous history. All we know is that she doesn't do well with strangers, and is always incredibly skittish in new surroundings. Dr. Nealon has been absolutely wonderful with her. She took the time to make Dani comfortable, and always "visits" with her before beginning her appointments. The last time we went in, Dani gave Dr. Nealon a full body wag-- this is normally reserved for my boyfriend and I! I was so pleasantly surprised! I just recently switched to this vet, because my daughter absolutely loves it with her new puppy. It was much closer to where I live, and my first visit was during the drop off phase. It probably still is. I just called them because I needed a copy of her rabies certificate as I am getting ready to have her groomed. They answered the phone right away and could not have been more pleasant about checking to make sure they had it and requesting my email address. I received an email promptly. read more

Very convenient location, excellent Yelp reviews and later hours on Tuesday and Wednesday are among the main reasons I initially took my Yorkie pups here. Having new puppies that required a series of vaccinations, and that also had a brief bout with intestinal illness, meant we had several visits over the last few months. We have received excellent care from Dr. Simmons and the staff there. Dr. Simmons is always gentle and kind and very willing to spend time explaining things and answering any questions that I might have. I have not boarded my pups there, so I can't comment on that service, but it is reassuring to know they have boarding available where they are well known by the staff. When they need further care or services, I will gladly return to Bissonnet-Southampton. read more

I have been taking my dog here since she was a puppy. They are very nice and caring veterinarians. There are about 4 on staff here now and of the ones I have had contact with, they have been super sweet, especially Dr Frank. They always follow up and make sure the visit was good and how she is doing after her visit. Even when we had to go to a specialist, they followed up to see how the appointment went. They also have a kennel here that we have used from time to time when we have gone out if town. What's safer than leaving your dog at a vet? Willow seems to feel very comfortable there every time we take her. The one downside to keeping her there is that they are not open on the weekend and you cannot pick up your pet. You have to wait until Monday. Recommendation: nice and caring vet for your pet read more

The staff are great. I especially like Dr. Tippet. She has a lot of kind confidence around large dogs. One bad time we had to have a dog put down there a few years ago and it didn't go especially well, he was not put on enough downers before shaving him to accept the final IV/injection and he fought them all the way. I eventually had to hold him down myself. That was quite stressful for one and all. They have their procedures for animal handling, which 99% of the time are just fine, but sometimes don't always work. read more

I absolutely love this vet clinic. I picked it simply for the location, as it's right around the corner from my house, but I feel like I completely lucked out because it is just the most wonderful office. The doctors are so friendly and so helpful. They spend time with you and explain every detail. Dr. Pilgrim has been amazing. My dog had to have surgery last week and Dr. Pilgrim was very thorough in describing what needed to be done, exactly how much everything would cost, and answering all of my questions. Their office staff has followed up via phone and email to check on my dog post surgery. They even called me the day after I had to take my dog to the emergency vet in the middle of the night a few weeks ago, to make sure she was okay. This is one of the few vets I could find that would see exotics, and I'm glad I went! I brought in my two Guinea pigs for a checkup; the doctors and assistants were all very friendly and helpful. I got both my pigs a checkup and nail trimming, which totaled $160, I don't know how that compares to other vets, but it's very hard to find a vet in the Houston area that will see my piggies. We have been going to Bissonnet Southhampton Vet Clinic for over 20 years. They have always done a great job and have so much concern for my animals. We have had several large bills due to strange happenings (one cat was shot with a bb gun). One annual visit, the doctor discovered that my male cat had a urinary problem that I had not noticed and actually saved me a lot of tests costs and my cat a lot of pain. I have never felt forced to purchase anything but was always informed of my options. I highly recommend them. They are a bit more but you definitely get what you pay for. read more

On our second visit, We had a different vet, Dr Nealon. We waited anxiously as the treatment over the weekend did not improve our pet's condition. She obviously had a bad day with another dog. We didn't mind the 45 mins wait but when she came in, she wasn't as caring for our pet's condition. We were rushed and felt we were inconveniencing her and we couldn't wait to get out and find another vet. We were not pleased. So, we won't go back again. read more

This clinic is okay but could be better, largely due to our customer service experience. They have never once submitted an insurance claim for us that I didn't didn't have to follow up on. They offer to keep a claim form on file, but were never able to locate it even though I gave it to them twice. Even when I bring one with me they seem to misplace it or forget to send it altogether. In a nutshell, if you plan on using your pet insurance policy, do not use this vet - it's more headache than what it's worth. It's the primary reason that we left this vet last year. They also instituted their canine flu vaccine requirement. Many of the nearby offices do not require their patients to receive this vaccine nor is it required by the city or state; the requirement was poorly communicated in the beginning. This resulted in us dropping off our dog for a checkup only to be surprised by the fact that he had gotten the shot without our consent because he was staying there. Had I not dropped him off and just came in for a scheduled appointment he wouldn't have needed the shot and I wouldn't have wasted the money. In terms of medical advice and treatment, I have found this clinic to be average for the area. I did have one vet here who suggested one of our dogs had a pet allergy that was causing a skin condition and suggested that we go a route of expensive food and allergy testing. I saw another doctor at this same facility a couple weeks later for the same condition that disagreed with that advice and suggested a less costly simpler route that proved effective. I found their approach to exam schedules to be frustrating. They recommended exams twice a year. I can't r call being at a vet that recommended anything more than an annual exam. Exams here only seem to consist of the physical, all other blood tests, fecal, etc are provided on an a la carte basis which I think is odd as my experience has been that vets provide a packaged annual exam that includes blood work and fecal examination, but you seem to have to ask for those here or perhaps I just wasn't communicating my expectations fully? Overall, this place feels like a mess of poor communication. Maybe it has changed in the past year since, but we won't be going back as we've found a new facility with a level of communication and practices that suit our needs better. read more

I live in Austin, but work in Houston and bring my dog often. My dog developed allergies while we were in Houston, and we were able to call and get a quick appointment. Dr. Desai and the entire team were amazing, caring and really explained everything to me. My dog is a fearful rescue and loves everyone at the office. They really put us at ease. This is not the cheapest veterinarian clinic you will find, but it is well worth the extra expense. My dog became seriously ill on a Saturday morning. I called and got an appointment immediately. They treated her and transferred her to an emergency vet clinic. Many dogs die from this illness, but their rapid and skillful treatment saved her life. Their regular care is excellent, too. The staff is very gentle and caring, and they are good about sending reminders for shots and things. I definitely recommend. read more

Sorry to say we had to leave this practice in complete frustration, after many years there. Calls left at the front desk seemed never to reach the vet, and I was also repeatedly told it was fine to email our vet with urgent concerns/photos of troubling problems -- only to realize later that she was not checking email regularly, and days would go by with no response. Worse, chronic problems with both pets were not effectively treated. We switched to a different practice, received different advice/care, and both pets rapidly improved. read more

I gave this vet clinic 4 stars because of the care my 2 dogs received there. The vets and techs are all very friendly, knowledgeable, and truly care about the pets we entrust to them. I recently moved to another state, and BissSouth still let me buy the dogs' meds over the phone to ship to me. We boarded our dogs there many times, and we recommended the clinic to friends with their own pups. Some negatives: -The clinic recommends that the dogs come in for check-ups more than once a year and sends postcard reminders for vaccinations that may not be needed (i.e. Lepto). -Parking is tight. -The waiting area is small. -The boarding facilities are smaller than in some places. Our dogs were used to large inside/outside runs in another city. All in all, this is a great place to take your pets. Other dog/cat parents may not be as mindful of expense as we were. read more

Absolutely the worst experience with a veterinarian office. I made 9a appointments for my dog and cat, they have "drop off" appointments which I (wrongly) assumed was standard since they only have curbside service. I arrived before 8:30 and at 11:30 still sitting in the parking lot called for an update - the vet has not even seen them and gets to "drop off" appointments throughout the day-- I looked through all of the appointment information and that was not stated anywhere. I asked to please have the nails clipped (the original and only reason I needed them to be seen) and they said they'd get right on that and bring them back out- it's been almost an hour and they called to state that they need the rabies immunization before they can- I agreed if they can do that at the moment. I'm still waiting for this 4 hour appointment to get nails clipped. Since we moved I had to take a half day off work to drive to the vet since we had been going here for a few years. I will be changing veterinarians after today. read more

Bissonnet is my go to vet. I have two senior cats that I have to take to the vet semi regularly. One has ongoing skin and behavior issues, one tends to need to go less frequently, but when she does, she makes it count (pancreatitis). I have never had anything less than amazing, caring service. I've seen several of the vets here (I am generally okay going with whomever is available) but recently Dr. Nealon has been helping me with my male cats behavioral issues. I've seen her multiple times about it and had several phone calls with her discussing plans of action. I truly appreciate that when I call to ask a vet a question here, the vet is the one who calls me back. It should also be mentioned that anytime I am there, no matter which vet is helping me, I always have time to discuss the issues with them and have real conversations about my concerns, questions, etc. I never feel rushed or like I am taking up the vet's time. Honestly, the whole office is amazing. Recently I had to take my female cat to an emergency overnight vet and was astounded by how cold and dispassionate they were toward me and my pet. Every time I go to Bissonnet, every single person I and my pet come into contact with is warm, sympathetic and caring. And after every single visit, no matter if it is routine or a minimal problem, someone always calls the next day to check up on the status of the animal. I would definitely recommend! read more

I LOVE THIS VET!!! I've had dogs all my life and have seen more than my share of vets. They are so kind here and clearly care about the animals. In my experience, any vet that is willing to sit on the floor just to pet an animal and make them feel comfortable is a keeper!! Their office is cozy, convenient, and clean. I called to get my dogs shot updated and for the first time in my life was told "no need to come in for an exam since you recently had one, just drop by and we will get her taken care of anytime this week." I can't say enough about how much I appreciate the doctors and staff here. They went above and beyond to help me when my dog, Cinnamon was very ill. I know that Cinnamon loved them too. Dr. Frank was great with her, and when she was not available, the other doctors took exceptional care of her as well. Having read the review from Sarah D (2/7/2011) I wanted to give my feedback about this extraordinary vet clinic because we, too, met them under the difficult circumstance of having to put down our 18-year old cat. We had recently moved to the neighborhood and hadn't yet established ourselves with a vet when our "little man" became terminally ill. Everyone in this clinic treated us as if we were members of their family...so sensitive, so much care, so very kind. The examination room we were taken to had been set up with a soft pad covered in a sweet flowered print. The actual moment of euthanizing was done with gentle explanations from Dr. Tippit who laid a small flower next to our boy as he "received his angel wings" (her words). She then left us so we could say goodbye and told us the room was ours for as long as we needed. This was 14 months ago and, needless to say, they continue as our vets for our 19-year old cat and our new puppy. The puppy LOVES going to the vet. We have boarded him there while we travel and we take him monthly for his bath....you'd think he was going to a party every time we walk into the office. The quality of the vet care is outstanding. Thorough, well-explained, with options for cost-savings where possible. We have consulted with vets for over 40 years and this group is absolutely the best. As one reviewer said, it is a tad expensive, but, in our view, well worth it. read more

My wife and I love this clinic! We've only been going here for 3 1/2 years, but we've never met a better staff that really goes the extra mile. Their prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for and your pet will receive the kindest care ever. Shortly after we moved to Houston, our younger pup cut her paw on a Friday night 10 minutes before they closed and Dr. Pilgrim stayed until after 8:30 pm to get her stitched up and make sure she woke up without any problems. When our older dog's health declined and she had to be put to sleep, Dr. Banigan and a tech came to our house so we didn't have to stress our beloved pet any further. They both showed us and our pet so much compassion and would never dream of going anywhere else. read more
