Dr Dohemann has been my primary doctor for many years. He is the most knowledgeable, caring, precise, careful, warm and wonderful doctor I've ever met. And at age 81. I've met a lot of doctors, most from elite institutions and in great demand. None compare to Dr Dohemann. The only problem is that he is retiring, something I and hundreds of others mourn, read more

Best PCP in the world. Quality over quantity is his Motto. Most Caring MD i've EVER MET! Yes he runs late but thats because he wants to be thorough in the responses he provides his patients. Front desk AFTER HIS MOVE was terrible during the initial year but i feel like it has improved. My messages always get through to him now. Never leaving his practice! Thanks Dr. D for being a doctor more concerned about their patients health versus seeing as many patients as you can in 8 hrs. YOU ARE THE BEST! read more

I was excited after reading all the 5 star reviews. Sadly, I never got to experience Dr. Dohemann because the customer service was so bad that I couldn't even reach his staff, let alone make an appointment. I called and got a voicemail explaining their hours and it seemed that they were at lunch. No problem. I called back later and again got the voicemail even though it wasn't lunch hours. I explained that I was a new patient and wanted to make an appointment. Roughly a week passed without a return call, so I called again and left another voicemail, again during their normal office hours. I waited and waited and got no return call. Finally, I was left with no choice but to find a different doctor (whose staff promptly answered the phone, by the way). I've had a few bad experiences with customer service at doctors before, but this was the worst I've ever had. Dr. Dohemann, if you're reading this, do something about your staff because I'm surely not the only patient you've lost due to their neglect. read more

Dr. Dohemann is a brilliant, well- informed and INTUITIVE doctor. He has the sensitivity to intuit when an issue will heal itself, or if further action is necessary. He is totally honest and truly caring. I trust him with my life, which he saved after the ER doctor failed to diagnose that I was dying from an infected appendix. When I was finally able to see Dr. D he immediately figured it out. I was rushed to surgery and would have died in 4 hours, so said the attending nurse. If you are blessed enough to get this mega busy doctor, consider yourself extremely lucky! read more

I have been seeing Jesse for many years, and my partner is also now a patient of his. and he agrees with me Jesse is an amazing caring man. If he is not sure what is wrong with you he will find out, and keeps you up to date on every test and is honest with what he thinks or results of test. I had to go into the hospital at one point and my insurance would not cover Jesse being my primary in the hospital. Jesse still came in everyday to see me and go over charts to make sure he was in the loop with my treatment. He is a perfect example of what a Dr should be like, and I consider him actually more of a friend then a Dr. read more

Dr. Dohemann has been my primary physician for at least five years and he never fails to give me his undivided attention at every visit, no matter how much time is needed. He is completely up-to-date in his field and explains everything in plain English. Working in conjunction with my specialists, he has kept me healthy longer than anyone believed was possible. He's not taking new patients because he is so much in demand. But if he ever does, RUN, don't walk, to become one of his patients. read more

Just called this morning (2-17-15). Was told by receptionist Dr Jesse Dohemann does not accept new patients for the time being as he's too busy. I've been in the US for over a year now, coming from Europe. Health system is different here so can be sometimes hard to find my marks. Unlucky me, especially after reading all these great reviews. read more

Dr. Dohemann is the best primary care physician on the planet. I have a lot of medical issues, and he deals with them in an extremely competent manner. He is kind and understanding as well. He gives you the time that you need for your appointment, regardless of what else is going on. I think he is terrific! He deserves more than five stars! read more

Dr. Dohemann has been my doctor for about 20 years. He is absolutely wonderful. He is retiring and has gone to a new office that used to be Bay Springs but is now Brown and Toland. I've been trying to reach them all day because of bladder issues and also my pharmacy continues to call and cannot refill an important medication that I take for depression. Everytime I call I am put in line to talk to someone and everytime we get to me being behind # 1 in the line, I get a message telling me to leave a message and then I get cut-off. I am desperate to talk to someone. This is worst than his previous office which wasn't great either but at least I could get hold of someone who would talk with me. Bay Springs has terrible, terrible customer service. I am planning to go to the emergency room later today. I do not know what else to do. I will also try and find another doctor. No one will ever be able to replace Dr. Dohemann but Bay Springs/Brown and Toland is the worst. read more

Jesse has been my MD for many years, was always very attentive and excellent. But since he moved offices, the system has entirely broken down and is terrible. Multiple calls requesting routine labs, med refills or a call back fall by the wayside. Getting an appointment takes months. I dont blame Jesse but he should at least know that long standing patients like me now have zero access: read more

I love my doctor. The wait can be long to see him, both in terms of getting appointments and hanging out in the exam room once you're there, but once he's with you he gives you his complete attention. Dr. Dohemann knows what he's doing, never preaches, and treats you like he really gives a damn about your well being. As far as I know he's not taking new patients, so unless you're already in the fold you are probably out of luck. read more

Jesse is the best doctor I have ever had. He saved my life. Plain and simple.

After all these years I still feel the same about Dr. Dohemann and his practice. He is one of the best Dr.'s I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. He listens to my ever need, quirk, complaint. He is #1 on my list and I am a picky gal. There is nothing he takes for granted and makes sure that I am all taken care of. If not by him, by another competent and highly recommended Dr. I still will cry the day comes when I can no longer see him. I hope this never happens. Dr. Dohemann. You ROCK! read more

Truly the best. His diagnosis of my cancer saved my life.

I have been going to Dr. Dohemann for over 10 years now and am so very grateful that I found him. He is a truly exceptional human being as well as an exceptional doctor. Like others have said, he listens to me and will call me at home to ensure my medical needs are being met. The last time I talked to him, I almost slipped and said, "I love you" as I was hanging up the phone with him. That just illustrates the human connection he makes that goes far beyond what any other physician has provided for me before. read more

I LOVE Dr. Dohemann. He is wonderful, kind and compassionate. He found a serious condition that I had without me even knowing it. As much as I love him is as difficult as it is to get speedy responses from his front desk. Nonetheless, I still LOVE Dr. Dohemann. read more

He's amazing. I get extremely nervous going to the doctor and Dr. Jesse always calms me and makes me feel so much better. He also won't put you through unnecessary tests if he doesn't think they are necessary. His light touch and warm heart make me grateful to have him in my life. read more

I have been a patient of Dr, Dohemann for almost 20 years. I was referred by another doctor who had Dr. Dohemann as her internist. What good fortune that was! He is the only doctor I've ever had that you can discuss everything with. He keeps abreast of all new treatments and medical knowledge. I never imagined I'd be so comfortable visiting my doctor. Regarding the comment about his staff from Brett J., Dr. D has new support staff and the response is excellent! read more

I'm a Chiropractor and have been Dr. Dohemann's patient for over twenty years. I went to him long before I was in the health care industry. The more I learned the more I appreciate Dr. Dohemann's expertise, compassion, and his down to earth nature. You can't go wrong with Dr. Dohemann. read more

Dr. Dohemann is the physician that everyone would want. He has been my primary physician for 20 years and has now been my daughter's primary physician for the past 10 years - she raves about him. He really takes the time to listen to his patients and openly discusses everything and anything with you and you feel comfortable telling him anything I went to see him a few years ago after apparently breaking several ribs in my back after a fall - following his examination and x-rays to confirm the situation he discussed how long the healing would take and how to manage the discomfort --- I then asked him what the chances would be for me to crew on a 3 day ocean sailboat regatta six weeks from then --- he said you will be kinda ok day 1; you will be in a great deal of pain day 2; and you will jump off the boat before the end of day 3. I got the message. Also, there is never a sense of time pressure during your appointment with Dr. Dohemann - he is focused on you as a patient 100%. I have at times sat longer in his waiting room for my appointment but I don't care because that means he is spending the time necessary with whoever is in front of me and I will get the same consideration when it is my turn. read more

Dr. Doheman is absolutely the best doctor available. He cared for me during a very tricky neck injury and has been my doctor for many years. I cannot describe the level of trust and admiration I have for him. A real guy, a great physician and a fun, caring human being. What's better than that? read more

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Dohemann for 10 years. He is simply the best doctor I have ever known.

I've been going to see Dr. Dohemann since I first moved out here in 1994. I've had different insurance companies over the past 10 years, including Kaiser (yuck) and I've always returned to see him. This is coming from someone who has no loyalty to any business and would switch banks at the drop of a hat. He doesn't ever try to dismiss anything you have to say and always accepts what you have to say as valid and will work to get to a resolution. Like Armando B. states below, I only gave 4 stars to him since he seems to have a difficult time finding reliable receiptionists. There have been times where I've had to call 3 times to get an appointment. That being said, I can overlook this because he's fantastic and an overall great guy. Sorry he's not accepting new patients. It's because he's the best. read more

I've seen Dr. Dohemann for 9 years - and I've seen my share of doctors in my lifetime, but he's the best. Very caring, knowledgeable, and a great listener. The bad news is that he's currently not accepting new patients. If I ever leave the bay area, he'll be one of the main things that I'll miss. read more

I saw Dr. Doheman for a few years while I was covered by Blue Cross. When I lost my job I also lost the ability to see Dr. Doheman and that significantly increased my sense of loss; and well-being. In my, somewhat, vast experience with doctors, he was the best doctor I have ever had! I feel disappointed ever time I have to see my current doctor because they just aren't as good at listening, caring, assessing and treating me and my symptoms. Thank you Dr. D.! read more

Dr. Dohemann has been my doctor over 15 years. Just like the other reviewers have said - he's the BEST! I feel really lucky to have a doctor that is so caring and takes time to really listen to you. He should write a textbook on patient care for physicians...he's that exceptional. read more

One day I had an appointment with Dr Jesse because I had been sweating at night, so much so, I had to change my sheets 3x. Of course I went online to try to figure out what it was, and became frightened when I learned that it could be TB. But for me, It was worse. I was a women in her 30's inexplicably going through menopause. And I ADORED kids. But I was single, working, with no spouse in sight. Dr Dohemann called me with my test scores and I started sobbing, SOBBING! I said, this is just not what I planned for my life! And he quietly said, Its not what I would have planned for your life, either. And he just sat and listened. I've never met a more compassionate doctor. I no longer live in San Francisco but I've never forgotten the care and compassion he gave me. read more

As the other reviewers said, this guy is great. Thoughtful, knowledgeable, caring, and attentive to detail. However, he's not taking new patients at this time. To be accepted, you need an in, like a referral from another doctor in the same group practice, which is how I got in. read more

There's a reason a lot of nurses go to Dr. Dohemann when they need a doctor -. nurses know great care when they see it. He is truly the best; He really does listen and he really makes you feel like he has all the time in the world. It does not get better than that. read more

I have the good fortune to be a patient of Jesse's for nearly 20 years. He is the real thing, and there is no way to express my total gratitude for him. He is no longer taking new patients so I also feel very lucky. Like I've been saved. He works way too hard and I do wish that wasn't true, it will be a sad day when he has to leave for whatever reasons. I always worry about someone who's really excellent at their job. I love this guy, what more can I say? read more

Love him!! always supportive, smart with diagnosis and a great communicator. An A+ Doc in my book......been a patient since 98'. Patti read more

I like Dr. Dohemann when I see him, and overall I wouldn't switch doctors, he is pretty busy but he definitely still seems to care about his patients, and he's referred me to some great specialists when I've needed it, but: seeing him isn't always so easy; I really don't know if that's because his secretary doesn't give him the messages or it's him, but in any case it can be pretty frustrating to call with a medical problem and not hear back until I call 2 more times. read more

My doctor rules! He is the best doctor EVER. He truly cares about his patients' well-being. I love that he doesn't make you feel like a number or a dollar sign. He is very attentive and listens to everything you have to say. I work at CPMC and when i run into him, he actually KNOWS who I am, unlike some other doctors I've been to. He even got off the elevator at my floor one time to continue listening to what I was telling him (slight complication w/my pregnancy), and told me to come by his office that very day so he could hear all the details and examine me himself. Today he squeezed me in on short notice because I've been having awful headaches for two weeks, and he wanted to do all he could to help me solve the mystery diagnosis that the ER couldn't seem to figure out. I thank my lucky stars for ending up with such a great doctor. Unfortunately, he is not taking new patients, otherwise i would tell everyone to make an appointment with him ASAP! read more

Dr. Jessie Dohemann is great...he gets 5 stars....his staff (nancy) gets 2 stars..she is rude, never returns calls. I have to call several times before I get what I need. read more

Jesse Dohemann is one of the best physicians I have ever met - he typifies what I have always wanted in a family doctor. I was fortunate enough to get into his closed practice about 10 years ago and he has helped me greatly through some complicated medical issues over those years. I never mind waiting a longer time in Dr. Dohemann's outer office to see him as I know he is spending extra time with another patient and he will do the same for me - he never rushes you - he always is so interested in your individual situation and what can be done. He also has now accepted several members of my immediate family as patients and they share the same high regard for him. read more

Dr. Dohemann is the best doc. He is funny and nice and really listens. He saved me when other docs. wouldn't even listen to me. I only have great feelings for this wonderful doc. Dr. Dohemann is a very laid back nice guy who knows a ton about just about everything. I heard some great things about him and finally, thanks to a frined, made my way into his super busy practice. I would probably take a star off beacuse the office is WAY too busy but the doctor is so sweet and really takes his time, doesn't intimidate so I can't ding the man as he deserves the 5 stars. The front office staff can be slow and abrupt but then again, they're jugglig a whole lot. He's also a good listener and i didn't feel rushed during my annual physical. read more

Really a great doctor. Listens to you and could not be more helpful. He might be the best internist in SF.
