Uncle Jesse is what my two girls call him. I'm not sure why they gave him the title, but it has stuck like glue. He's included in our bedtime prayers so that makes him part of the family now. When you think of bankruptcy, it's a certain ugly stigma and studio type it falls under. Your already labeled and judged. My case and circumstances behind my bankruptcy was due to my ex-husband, my divorce, a lack of knowledge, naiveness and a crooked mortgage company. One meeting with him, and him reviewing my case, watching me break down in front of him he already knew. I didn't have to explain, go into detail or convince him. I didn't have to give him a background or tell my side of the story. He already knew. He can read you within 10 mins of you being in the room with him. And he never once judged me. The only thing he kept getting on to me about was always apologizing. Apologizing for things I had no control over and that wasnt my fault. When he tells you he gots you, that's exactly what he means " He gots you ". The best part of our meetings was the stories he would tell in between paperwork. A time of two he would say he was sorry about boring us, but I would actually leave with knowledge, a better understanding on why the system was the way it was and why it worked like that. And what not to do for next time. He taught me in those moments. And the love he has for his family, for people and for his job in general is a bonus. He comes off stern and grouchy, but once you get to know him, you will understand why. He deals with numbers, budgets and having to clean up other people's messes in a system that really don't give to flying shits about any of us. He's passionate, fair, honest in doing what's right and being the voice for those of us that don't have one big or loud enough. He never quits or gives up. He will find the answers and solutions to any problem you have. Every meeting we've had he always tells me " I can't promise you that everything will turn out peaches and cream. I don't know which way it will go. The system isn't fair, but I promise I have you. You have to trust me and let me do my job. It's me, you and GOD." and he stands on that promise. You can sleep in peace knowing you're in wonderful hands. He will do what he says he will do. But don't lie to him, he's like Santa Claus he will know and he will call your ass out on it. You know you're in trouble when he bends his head down slightly and looks over his glasses at you and raises his eyebrows. Its best you come clean and correct. He is a very straight forward person. He DOES NOT sugar coat anything, he's blunt and straight to the point. He's understanding, he knows times are hard for a lot of people, and he works with you and lets you decide what you can pay him. Each payment you give him, he explains what it will go to and how its applied. He even lets you do weekend appointments. He's not this arrogant person with this big fancy office with overpriced furniture. His office is in a older shared building but it is cozy, welcoming and clean. And his staff has always been polite and informative. It's worth the hour drive for me. He deserves more than five stars in my book. read more
