Being a father in Texas dealing with family courts is dauntin, and my interactions with Jonathan Hassell and Brian Walters made things even more difficult. I made my decision based on Brian's enlightening podcast, but sadly, his demeanor in court did not match his knowledge. Given the seriousness of the matter, I was disappointed with Brian's lack of interest in my case, considering the amount of money I paid to retain him. I specifically requested a capable attorney and they stuck me with Jonathan Hassell, the worst at the firm. From his first phone call, Jonathan was rude. He thought he was Harvey Spector in an episode of Suits. This is not a TV show, it is real life and my divorce case is very important to me. It's not a joke. Jonathan came off extremely pretentious. His demeanor was often condescending, and I felt that his long conversations with the opposing counsel depleted my retainer rapidly. Additionally, there were instances where I felt that he made errors in understanding simple key details of my case, which further troubled me. What am I really paying for here? He made several very obvious mistakes as he was not detail-oriented, stating that I said something to my ex-wife through a message exchange. When I showed him that it was actually my ex-wife who said that to ME, instead of taking accountability, he shifts the topic. He spent over an hour lecturing me on the phone. He made me believe I actually said it so I was apologizing, but when I looked back at the messages, I didn't even DO what he said I did. I get that lawyers are humans and make mistakes, but this was so clearly obvious. It says my name and it says my ex-wife's name next to each message... how can he not know who said that? I attempted to express these concerns to Brian, but unfortunately, my requests for a change in paralegal were denied. His actions border on malpractice and I has filed a complaint with the Texas Bar Association.  He made many false claims for communication, filed many expensive and unnecessary unfounded motions that artificially inflated his billing.  His discovery motions were non-existent. Legal representation is a delicate process that must be handled when client and counsel are in sync.  This was not the case.  He never performed his duty to cross examine during trial, he waived specific objections without client permission and during the process to transfer to another attorney, failed to provide necessary information for new counsel to sub in. They take your retainer money plus all the money you have and then call you names, throw out profanity and then try to make it look like you are the crazy people because they were not prepared at all. They never protect you as the client that hired them and paying their god awful retainers. Just not an honest company to hire at all. They throw all kinds of different people in the mix and confuse you why they are spending the retainer. They don't care at all about a child that can't defend themselves, only about how they can make it look. Very sad that my granddaughter was put into this situation that grownup people took money and put her into harms way because we were easy prey. I lost everything because of this firm. Those who left a positive review most likely did so to have their outrageous bill reduced. I refuse to let anyone else be misguided by false reviews. This law firm is nothing but a bunch of crooks. Jake spent more time focusing on other clients than the case we had going on. It always seems like my ex knew everything that we were doing ahead of time. He is not a fighter and barely showed up. I had one of his assistants work the case because he couldn't make it. The sad part is that he didn't brief the assistant, so I had to catch him up on what was going on. The divorce shouldn't have taken over a year and $18,000, especially since my ex and I signed mediation papers in October but didn't get documents till almost July the following year. Apparently, Jake didn't file the paperwork when he stated. They overcharged and charged for meetings that never took place between him and I. I had to fight every to have the billing corrected. Furthermore, we had a temporary order regarding child custody that was supposed to grant me the rights to have my kids from Thursday-Monday once the decree was final, but somehow Jake f'ed that up as well. Now he wants more money to go back to court, and now he is saying he doesn't handle child custody after he messed up my divorce. I lost everything because of this firm. read more

I really wanted to like this guy. When Brian took my case, I had spent the better part of a decade as a single dad and a physician. I've never been married, I've never broken a law (maybe some speeding tickets), my child has always enjoyed luxuries like international travel, summer camp, etc. After over a year, there is zero proof of neglect or abuse, the entire case is accusations, that's it. He lacked the ability to bring my daughter home. I watched this guy blow it with 2 judges. He came to court unprepared. His cross examination was embarrassingly sloppy. He didn't even give a closing argument. If you paid $500 an hour ($750 when he got his junior partner involved) and got crap results, would you complain? I did. Did he turn it around? Decide to care? Try to do his job? Nope. He just threw a tantrum and quit (see pic. The-thanks for making time for me - line is actually sarcastic). I've since hired a guy for half the price that has produced actual results. For Walters- I've literally never in my life spent so much money and gotten so little (actually nothing) in return. If I practiced medicine like this guy practiced law, people would die. So, ZERO stars. Update- I hired a lawyer for half the price of Brian Walters and he got my daughter home and also got me full custody. read more

He told me that I had the right to choose my attorney, but he could do whatever he wanted. He is the most inefficient attorney snake out there. He showed up to one of the two hearings that he scheduled, allowed the other attorney to write the court order for the judge to sign on the one hearing he did show up to. He's inefficient as he does not do most of the work on the five invoices charged to my account for two months that I used him as my first attorney. I hired him because his website said efficient and he passed my case off to two other attorneys; one first 20 mins that I met, Karina; I knew I did not want working on my case and told him directly. He did not accomplish anything in my child custody case except opening it with lots of typos a few friends and I spent hours on fixing. Give him $59,000, for your case; and, he'll happily charge you over $50K with newby attorney's, a secretary at over $100/hour organizing your papers, a medium attorney Robert he'll throw in with less than 24 hours, and come with absolutely nothing to help show the judge as evidence as the other side gets everything they want. Run like hell from this firm. Hiring anyone else is a very good idea. He knows nothing about mental health, so if that plays into your case, do not use Brian Walters firm. He'll block you from eventually speaking to anyone, fix nothing on your incorrect bills, and just be a total asshole in general to you and shame you for everything as nothing is ever Brian's fault even if he does everything you ask him not to do and and absolutely next to nothing you ask him to actually do, like this judge has a conflict of interest, here's the baby steps you need to do...he ignores, you get overcharged and eventually just get the judge dismissed yourself for violating your 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th amendment rights. Brian Walters is a pilfering thief charging over $50K for two months and no results when your budget is $59,000, he's the very worst fiduciary you could possibly entrust your money to. $6k+ later, we still didn't get the outcome we wanted. All of the contact was through emails. During the first hearing, everybody seemed unprepared. I most definitely was after not even receiving a proper brief from the attorney that was going to represent us. I was told it was a "prety straight forward case" when in fact it wasn't. I wasn't given a chance to cover all my bases and avoid a bad outcome since the case and technicalities weren't explained properly. Staff was also not prepared for the worse. A lot of false hope was given. When the case was lost, I received a call from the staff explaining to me why we lost. I was definitely upset and at a loss for words, but what really threw me off was the the attorney proceeded to say "its not that were using this terminology because were smarter than you, but we do this often". I had completly understood what had happened but I think that was SUPER unprofessional and unnecessary. At the end, when my feedback was asked for, I explained my concerns and was told I was going to hear back from someone. Weeks later, I have yet to hear from them. Now it seems like their address isn't even coming up on google maps. And I got an email stating I STILL owe them money....??? Trying to atleast have that explained now. read more

When I first met Brian Walters I really thought he was going to be a good and upstanding lawyer. But when he was actually working he showed his true colors. This is not a good lawyer by a long-shot. All he cares about is making money, and boy did he. He did everything to just keep things rolling so he kept getting checks.
