What: Haircut and Treatment with Booster (Treatment for dry hair: orange vial and a booster for weakened hair: green vial; there's a chart near the shampoo station advertising the vials and purpose of each treatment/booster).
Stylist: Mel. Mel has 15 years of experience cutting hair. Wow! It's not often that my stylist has that many years of experience!
Takes: It was time to finally chop off my hair. "Say good bye to your long hair! Are you sure?" Mel asked as he started to cut off my hair tied in a low ponytail. My goodness! What a relief it is to not have that extra weight on your shoulders.
Mel has a keen eye. He immediately knew that I have virgin hair (never dyed), and my hair needed extra strengthening just by brushing it. He recommended a treatment with a booster, but he was never pushy about it. I was a little bit rushed when I saw the price breakdown, but a quick USD conversion in my head (yay mental math!) prompted me to treat myself because it's still within my budget.
Additionally, Mel was able to get that I wanted a style that's low maintenance yet worked with my round face. Sometimes it's hard to articulate my haircut preferences so I usually ask the stylist what he/she recommends, and it's a hit or miss. Staying with one stylist for an extended period of time isn't the norm for me; however, if I'm in Makati, I wouldn't mind seeing Mel again.
Process: Shampoo and conditioner, initial cut, treatment if needed, additional cut, and lastly, style with hairdryer + brush. The treatment took 20 minutes to complete. Mel's assistant offered me magazines to read during the treatment process. She also surprisingly gave me an upper arm, neck, and shoulder massage. I wasn't expecting that, but my aching tense muscles greatly appreciated it. Post treatment, my hair was smooth and soft (definitely not as frizzy from the humidity as before). We'l
Wait time: Walk in. No wait! Unless you're particular with your stylist, there's a stylist waiting for you.
Service: Friendly! I do appreciate when tstylists and assistants share recommendations for haircuts and which side works best for parting your hair.
Prices: 550 Philippine pesos for a haircut; treatment + booster was almost 2000 pesos; total paid: the equivalent of $60 USD which is still cheaper than my usual $75+ haircut without any treatment at salons in California. There's a reason why I cut my hair very short and just grow it out when I'm home. I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to hair. We'll see if the strengthening booster actually works.
