Great service from Raymond! On my last night in the Philippines, I decided to get another haircut,…read moreand a beard trim. I learned my lesson, and I asked this time how much the service was. Glad I did because not only did I get a great haircut, and beard trim. I also received a fantastic price! 300 PHP, Unlike Bruno's Barber who charged me 9,230 PHP which was a total a rip-off. I'm still quite bitter about it. I think the barber at the other place took advantage of me because I was a tourist. Oh well, we live and learn. I hope people learn from my mistake. Ask for the price list first!

There was no line, so I just ordered up my haircut through this cool computer device thing and got a regular, boy-next-door style clean cut with sorta thin but not undercut level thin sides. In no time at all, a barber came up to me and was ready to give me a haircut. I decided to time it just to make sure it was 10 minutes. It wasn't EXACTLY 10 minutes, of course, but needless to say it was pretty damn fast. The guy worked his magic like hell, I didn't know how he was cutting so fast. But in the blink of an eye, I had my haircut ready and done. And it didn't look half-bad either; it looked pretty much the same as all the other haircuts I normally get. Considering that price-wise, it's pretty much the same as the haircuts I get from other places, I'd say that the quickness and convenience factor here (the fact that you can get a haircut during your lunch break or something) gives it a decent edge.

I stumbled across Felipe and Sons while scrolling through Instagram and I really liked their aesthetic. Their setup in Ortigas is the real deal. Hardwood floors, old-school chairs, full-bar and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. While waiting for my appointment on the dark leather couch, I felt as though I was on a scene of Mad Men or something. Now for the cut. I was a bit apprehensive because the barber that scooped me up wasn't conversastional, like at all. I got a nice hot towel to start though and then he got to work after I explained what I wanted. Luckily my fears were unfounded! What takes 25 minutes at some other salons and barbershops took him nearly an hour--and that's a good thing. This barber (it's a shame I didn't catch his name), took the time to really give me a good fade, thin out my top, and even did a sick job on my sides. You could tell that he had a really, really skilled manner in the way he manipulated the clippers and scissors. I got a shampoo and another hot towel after. Awesome! The arm and neck massage was also super relaxing. He even gave me some good tips about what kind of pomade to use for my cut and how he'd work with what the other barber did wrong apparently from when I got a cut from somewhere else. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a new place to get a haircut. For only 280 pesos the quality of the cut was amazing. I already scheduled my next haircut.

Ever since one of the Slick Barbers (Tim) gave me my first high fade, I have only ever had my hair…read morecut by one of the boys of Slick Barbers Co. which is a barbering collective born out of a desire to bring back the highly cultivated culture of fostering a good relationship between barber and client. In the olden days, haircuts needed a lot of meticulous feathering and trimming without the aid of clippers, and great barbershop conversation was the norm. The boys of SBCo. are trying to bring that back, and personally, I have a great time every time I'm in this humble Yague barber shop because of the fun people, the great music, and just overall the great philosophy that these boys embrace. SBCo is a tad rebellious. They are at par with other more established barbershops in terms of quality, but they are cheaper because of their known brand of "street" barbering. No fancy air-conditioned surroundings or plush lounges here. You come for a trim, you hang out, you walk out happy. Cuts are at around P200 pesos excluding tips. Their waiting list suggests that a lot of people are rearing to get haircuts. Sure, the guys over at Salcedo can give similarly spiffy and cool haircuts but not for the price that SBCo offers. It's all a matter of preference, really. What I also love about SBCo. is that they have contacts and tie-ups with major local pomade brewers, so if you are always in need of a good hair product, you can choose from their shop for the most suitable pomade for your styling needs.

I couldn't believe. I thought it was hilarious that this was all happening at the same time and had my doubts. Was totally impressed with the service and quality of work. My haircut was def what I wanted, hands and feet in great manicured shape, all this for about 1100 pesos (about $22)!!! I was in and out in 1 hour, no lie. This is the most efficient groom service I've experienced ever, best grooming regimen in any barber or salon ever. They do shaves/massages the classic way too. You must come here to check it out. Verdict: Oh hell yes I'm coming back. Visits: 1 Tip: Cash only. This location is in the Mall of Asia, MOA. It gets super busy in here and there's a wait if you don't have an appt. While you do this, your girl/ significant other can go to I think there are 2 salons next door; she can take her pick. Tip your barber or manicurist 100 pesos, about $2 before you leave.

I think I might have mentioned in my review of my favorite Maginhawa Street barber that I don't…read morecare much for really expensive and meticulous haircuts. I'm good with a fast haircut that makes me look half-decent after all the hair has been brushed off my neck and my arms. I used to not care about what my hair looks like, and I styled it very minimally. That was all until I stepped into Tribal Cuts and had my first "slick cut" done. Slick cuts are what the guys at Tribal Cuts call the non-traditional, non-mainstream haircuts that people can get from their shop, which is located in the far back of the Tribal Store. It is easy to find: Just go to the end of the Pedro Gil Wing and look for the Shakeys. The Tribal Store (the shop that sells clothes and jeans with their famous tribal logo). Anyway, slick cuts are a nod to the old-school pompadours and fades that people used to get when pomades where still in style. Speaking of pomades, the guys here in Tribal Cuts know their stuff, and they recommended a few brands of locally made pomades that I could use. I decided to go for a classic brushed up pompadour, and my barber, Tim (who was still in training) was an excellent and skilled man. We talked about quite a lot of things because slick cuts normally take about an hour, since it requires a lot of scissorwork - they don't just clip you with their electric shears - they need to feather, gradually decrease the length of some spots and meticulously brush and comb your hair to see how it would look when it's styled. The boys at Tribal Cuts are part of the Slick Barbers collective, which aims to bring back the barbershop culture that has become quite obsolete because people are now always in a hurry. Schedule your appointments in advance because they are so in demand, they would usually have a cut-off at 2PM and cut for the rest of the afternoon.
