My husband and I had used Jim as our plumber for a few years. After my husband died last year, I had a number of things go wrong at my house, and had less time and energy to deal with them. For a while, it was great to be able to depend on Jim. I knew he would show up when he said he would, and his prices were very low.
He replaced my water heater in early 2024 and everything was fine, and again at a very favorable price. In the spring he set up my swamp coolers as usual.
Then the motor went out in one of my two swamp coolers at the beginning of June. He replaced it with a more expensive motor, one that he kept repeating had a 3-year warranty and was better than one I could buy at Home Depot. He left it with the pulley and belt adjusted wrong and it was barely pushing any air.
The next day I had him come and look at it. I couldn't be home and he just checked it on the roof, not inside the house. When I got home there was still no cooling going on. I called him to tell him that, and he got extremely upset with me and insisted that I was lying or making things up.
.
I had two other professionals try to get this motor working properly. They had a hard time with it and were puzzled about why it didn't work better. They finally got it adjusted to where it was sort of OK, but it never did work right.
I wrote a formal letter to Jim to tell him what these other guys found, but he never replied. Not only was this bad business, it was personally hurtful. After all this time and no contact, I've decided to make this experience public. I used to refer people to him, but never again. I just don't understand what happened to him. read more
