Long story short- This place is a rip-off and it is owned by and operated by a con-man…read more I did a 6 month pre-purchase and was advised by an employee that I had under the end of the last month to cancel. Fast forward 28 days before my contract ended and I cancel, just to me told that 30 days written notice was required. Signed the form, cancelled. Since that day, I've been charged 3 times by the place for a total of $150 a change. There is not one pro I can think of to describe this place. Stay as far away as you possibly can.

At the time I joined, I actually was highly disinterested in exercise but was even more disinterested in staying at my current poor level of fitness, so I took advantage of a promotion they were having and joined the day I came in to inquire. Like any other gym, it can get crowded on weeknights, but there have been many times where I've had the whole gym to myself at 8pm on a Saturday night! Dumbbells go up to 100 lbs, not that I could lift anywhere near that anyway. As for personal training, I had a few months of sessions with Sean, who also works at the West Windsor location. We started with the "Basic 8" routine used for beginners, then added new exercises and variations as I became more advanced. This has proven to be very helpful for me, as I learned how to use many different types of equipment and have seen great gains in strength since I started. I've compiled a list of pros and cons of the Spotswood location of Snap Fitness: Pros: * Open 24/7 * Strong security system; cameras in several areas of the gym, can only enter by swiping in at the door with a card (or if you lost your card, a staff member can let you in during staffed hours) * Although not staffed 24/7, staffed hours are pretty convenient * Month to month membership, although you can pay for several months at a time to save more per month * Access to Snap Fitness locations all over the state/country/world; great for travelers (I've been to 7 locations in NJ myself) * Friendly staff * Non-judgmental, diverse group of members * Members are generally good with wiping down machines after use and putting back weights * Machines are well-kept and hardly ever break * Remote controls for the four TVs kept at the cardio machines so you can change the channel while working out * Small gym is non-intimidating for beginners * Access to mysnapfitness.com, which allows you to stay on track as far as workouts and nutrition go, and shows your gym checkin history and fitness evaluation results and progress * Free personal training session during your birthday month, and when you completely fill out a workout card Cons: * More expensive per month than other gyms with similar amenities (but perhaps lower initial fee and contract stipulations?) * No showers/locker room (cubbies are available for storing your items) * Not a lot of empty floor space for stretching/floor exercises * Few classes, and little room for them at that * Barbells are not the standard 45 lbs. * Some people may find that there is not enough equipment for their needs (i.e. no squat rack or free bench press, just a Smith machine) Of the different Snap Fitness locations I've worked out at, I've found that the Aberdeen and Branchburg gyms have a lot of floor space. Branchburg also has a squat rack! The West Windsor gym, which has the same owner as the Spotswood one, also has quite a bit of room, especially for classes, although I haven't been to any.

After discussing my goals and eating habits, work hours, etc., I was told Ellen would be a good fit for me as my trainer. Honestly, she is a blessing. I do a combination of strength training, cardio, and yoga. At 48 I did not realize how important stretching (that literally takes maybe 5 minutes) is for my body and how different I feel starting my day with a couple moves. I enter Yvette's with a willingness to work out and leave there feeling stronger, clearer, and just good. The cost is not astronomical, it's actually very fair. It's worth it. It's your body. The girls there are nothing but supportive. This is not a pretentious atmosphere. It is a place to get healthy, talk about what want to achieve, and having a workout that is suited for you. Give it a try, talk to the other girls who train there, you won't be disappointed. Did I mention there is a coffee/tea bar when you walk in? Perk!

I was introduced to my trainer Laurie Cocco. Laurie is the best person who ever walked into my life. She is not only my motivation, but also my friend. She pushes and encourages me just enough to give me confidence to want to do more. I have become physically and mentally stronger. No matter what is going on in my home life she accommodates me to make sure I get my work out done. When COVID hit we moved to working out via FaceTime. Yvette and Laurie dropped EVERYTHING I needed and I mean EVERYTHING at my doorstep. Through thick and thin, knee surgery, and COVID Laurie has worked to make sure I continue towards bettering my health. Trust me you will never find a better place to become a better stronger you.
