I am not sure if he values his own business as he doesn't respond for days, doesn't keep appointments. He is skilled at the dodge game. I am guessing that he takes the bigger money deals even if he started yours. I value an honest person and I don't believe him to be such. Jerry promised to work on my repairs a week and a half later from the day of the estimate. I agreed to wait because I trusted him and felt comfortable with him. However he failed to call me or text me until I called him the day before the repairs. He didn't answer but about 30 minutes he texted me that he is not feeling well and wants to reschedule. I expected an apology even though he is sick but he failed to do so during out texts. He replied with "oh well" and that didn't sit very well on me. After my negative review he did reach out to me and apologized. Business owners need to understand that it shouldn't take a bad review to respond or take care of your customer. Our front entrance brass lamp, originally installed by the builder, was gathering a lot of rust. I spotted a more elaborate chrome lamp at Home D, which I thought would make a suitable replacement. I called this guy a while ago to take apart furniture for me. I asked him what he charges and he said $30 per hour. Its sounded good when he showed up to my place he said btw my minimum is two hours. My family was terrified by his sloppy appearance and oder. Since he already had started taking the furniture apart before telling me about his "price changes" i just let him finish the job i just wanted him out of my house. Worst experience of my life and I'm guessing he needed extra money to support a drug habit because he sure looked and smelled like a "user". Late and no call. I left work early, losing money so I would be at my home when he arrived. When I reached him, he told me he was running late "on a more important job" and wouldn't be able to come until the following day. That didn't work for me as I was working and would be unable to leave early again. So he proceeds to argue with me via text telling me my job was less important, I was getting off cheap because he normally charges $35/hr with a 3hr. minimum etc. He was going to charge me $40 to repair a kitchen drawer boot which obviously was a job that would take him only a few minutes. So how was I getting off cheap? Forget this guy. Totally unprofessional, not to mention rude and unreliable. read more

Surprise......Walk outside for work to a broken water main with a stream of water running down my driveway. I called around for plumbers and nobody could make it, and their labor rates were $85 an hour. I found Jerry on Yelp and he was at my house within an hour. He fixed the broken main within three. Jerry is awesome! I had an issue with a gate that wouldn't close this morning and was more than a little stressed as I did not want the dogs to get out. I called Jerry after finding him here on YELP and he was at my house within 15 minutes. $25 bucks and less than an hour later the gate was fixed and the dogs were happy to be able to go back in the yard! I hired him almost 2 years back. I was tired of his lies and decided never to hire him ever again. He was hired to change my lawn about 10 foot of it, because my dogs played rough on it and tore up, also to change 5 piece of wood on the fence. He took 2 days to complete the job. Also he charged $800 for it because he was hourly. He came early morning 7.30am and said Home Depot didn't have any grass bed at all and they were sold off completely so he is going to Manteca to get the grass. By 12.00pm he still didn't come back and I went to Home Depot to get something and see several of the grass bed still there. So I took a picture of it and called him, he never answered. By 2 pm he called me and started giving me a story that he got a ticket in Manteca that is why he was so late. When he came by 4 pm, I showed him the picture of the grass bed from Tracy Home Depot and he said "ah that is weird when I went there, there was no grass ". Jerry Yost is the most unethical, non-trustworthy contractor I have ever used, his behavior includes extortion, stealing, breach contract, etc. As a handyman, he is only allowed to charge to $500. On a baseboard replacement labor only job, he never get back to my request for quote. After he finished the replacement, but left the old board in backyard. He said it is $4100 job to replace the baseboard. I said you can only charge up to $500, but I gave him $600 for the labor job. We agreed on the kitchen sink counter job, and I gave him $200 deposit, he had a little start, but never came back to finish it. He stole the materials I bought from Tracy Home Depot from my house and kept the pickups under his possession, returned partial as I stated to him it is criminal behavior and I called police finally. He took some of my materials to Tracy Home Depot and asked for store credit, but Tracy Home depot reported to me and get my instruction to credited back to my credit card. read more

He said he had been to the store yesterday and the store had forgotten to order the rails, however he had some used ones that he was going to clean up and bring to me to see if they would work. However he took the old garbage disposal and the box of the new more expensive disposal along with the extra cord I ordered. When I called and asked for the box for my new disposal he lied and said he left it on the counter. I called again to give him the opportunity to say he accidentally put it in his truck but he lied again. I have a feeling someone paid for a $279 garbage disposal and got a used $99 disposal. Reached out to him after reading the reviews here. Not only was he able to start work the next day but his verbal quote was also very reasonable (too low in fact initially. He underestimated the work initially and the quote did go up after he was onsite and saw a few more things to fix - but it was still very reasonable). Just wanted to share OUR experience... Our office hired Jerry for a big project, which was semi-finished (and paid for!) when we decided to offer Jerry "Project number 2". On the second project, he asked for pre-payment because he had to buy supplies, order carpet, and so on. Having worked with Jerry before, we had no problem cutting this check. Big mistake...Right after Jerry cashed our check, he started having health issues. We understand. Of course. We'll wait. Hope you feel better, etc. And after that Jerry just disappeared on us! Never returned our calls. No answer to the "love note" we sent him asking for our money back. Still has our office key. When I called him not from the office but from the phone he did not know, he DID answer my call and hung up on me right after I introduced myself. Had nothing to say probably?.. At least, he is alive. Good news already. He is "Bonded and insured", but his bond would not cover anything unless "there is a conviction involved"! So good luck, people. Hire him. But be ready to loose money the way we did. And by the way, we had to hire another guy to clean up all the mess Jerry left in one of our rooms and to finish everything Jerry promised to do but never did. Thanks, Jerry. read more

I called Jerry to refurbish a 30 year old deck that was still structurally sound but needed some floor boards replaced and cosmetic upgrade. Jerry came by and looked at the deck and said he would recommend replacing all of the floor boards and would have to check current prices for lumber and get back to me in a couple of hours with the quote. It was actually the next day when Jerry sent me a text with the quote. I was happy with the quote and told him to get started. When the job as done Jerry hit me with a bill much higher than the quote. He said his text was only a quote for the labor and all materials were xtra !!! I asked how could that be when he originally had to wait and check the prices on lumber to give me the quote in the first place. He had no legitimate answer and we haggled over the price and settled on an amount in the middle but still substantially more than I had budgeted for the job. If you hire Jerry be sure and cover all details clearly as I felt I had paid more for a quote that Jerry underestimated in the first place. The work was OK for a rough deck but I would not recommend for jobs that require a good finishing touch. read more
