This place is a hot commodity, highly recommend a reservation through their website. We waited about 10 minutes with a reservation. This was our favorite cocktail bar in Rome, easily. The drinks were potent & very unique with a twist, so the price point was worthy. Also their decor & the vibes inside are on point, it does a great job at teleporting your mind to a different time & age; we loved it!

This place is deemed the best cocktail bar in Rome and I would believe it. You have to go down a little alley where you have to ring the doorbell. The attendant comes to the door where he asks for the password (make sure to check their site!). This was definitely a speakeasy experience! As you walk in, there is live jazz music playing. Love the ambiance. The cocktails average 20 euros and you have to pay 5 euro "membership"(this lasts for 6months). A little on the steep side but you can tell they put a lot attention to the drinks. Each one of them was amazing.

Very unique experience! The cocktails were top notch and the ambiance is exactly what you'd picture for a prohibition era speakeasy. The music was quite loud though...we were asked to quiet down several times even though we needed to basically shout to hear each other. Ironic thing is we were asked to quiet down and right afterwards the server asked us for our order and had to ask us to repeat our order again because he couldn't hear us ‍

Great service and ambiance. Great for a different experience or off the beaten path experience in Rome. Drinks were great. Felt like falling through a time portal to speakeasy days.

My fiancée and I love to discover new speakeasies everywhere we go; from NYC to California to Italy; we always try to discover a new speakeasy. That is why, I could tell you with all certainty that Jerry Thomas is probably the best speakeasy in Italy (...and probably the world) and is something everyone should experience at least once! We've visited this place three times in the last year, and I can assure you it only gets better. The place is located in a small street in what seems to be a doctor's office. Make sure to make a reservation in advance and also know the question and answer for the secret password, which you can find on their website. This speakeasy is a Members Only bar, which means that you'll have to pay a small fee to become a member before ordering drinks. Also, this membership only lasts 6 months, and if you are thinking about returning to Rome in the next year or so, be prepared to pay the membership fee again. The speakeasy is out of a 1920's movie, and everything from the music, to the sitting area is phenomenal. On Wednesdays or Thursdays (can't remember which one) they have a 1920s style band, which is amazing and makes your experience even better. All of their drinks are made to perfection and are totally amazing.

Interesting speakeasy and great location. In a little alley where you have to ring the doorbell that says "Jerry Thomas". We (two of us) showed up around 10 shortly after they opened without a reservation. The guy at the door asked for a couple of minutes, upon his return he said he could give us a spot but would need it back by midnight. Not a problem, and we were glad they accommodated. Contrary to one of the rules on the menu, they do take credit cards and are NOT cash only. I used my CC this past Saturday to close out my tab. The whole membership thing is sort of fun but you do have to pay a fee of 5 EUR and the membership does expire that same year. So, for us foreigners that visit Rome once every couple of years you have to "sign up" every time. Not sure if I like it or if it's a weird way to charge people 5 bucks. The drinks were good and very creative. The waitress was knowledgable and recommended great drinks based on what we were looking for. One of the big minuses is that people are allowed to smoke inside and as the night goes on the place does get filled with cigarette smoke at which point we decided to leave.

Hotel Nacional

The best cocktail bar in Rome by FAR, and some of the best, most unique drinks I've ever had. The cocktail menu is truly incredible. There is clearly so much passion that went into making these drinks; the creativity of some of them is astounding. They go the extra mile on everything, redistilling some of their ingredients to concentrate the flavors and doing inventive takes on a lot of classics. They cater to both an experimental and artistic bent as well as to more traditional, refined cocktails. Here are the drinks I had: 1. The River Martini: -Icelandic Gin -French Dry Vermouth -Oak Moss -Soil -Pickled Quail Egg The idea behind this drink is to create an image/memory of a place (a woodland river) and to highlight the unique characteristics of the Icelandic gin. Definitely not a drink for the faint of heart and more of an artistic experience than something you can drink all day but I really enjoyed it. The pickled quail egg was a really nice spin on the more traditional olive and was like an explosion of flavor at the end of the drink. 2. Hotel Nacional -Plantation Pineapple Rum -A1710 La Perle Extraordinaire Rum -Hennesy VS Cognac -Apricot -Ancho Poblano -Pineapple + Jackfruit -Petitgrain -Lime This was a much more "pleasing" drink. The concept behind this one was to imagine what changes in flavor a fruit like a pineapple would have undergone in its journey across the ocean when the new world was first discovered and refrigeration wasn't a thing. Easy to drink but with some really nice complex notes from the petitgrain and poblano. 3. Milk + Peat -Laphroaig 10 Years -Kefir + Yogurt -Rhubarb -Vanilla -Wild Mountain Cherries -Marsh Samphire The idea behind this one was related to the discovery of the first dairy products (before humans had developed enzymes to digest dairy). Really interesting and delicious! Creamy with a slight tang and a very nice balanced fruitiness, finishing with the peat from the Laphroaig which is balanced incredibly. Would have been very easy to do something like this wrong! I was skeptical of Scotch in a fruity/creamy drink but it was incredible. - I wish I could have tried them all! There were so many more beyond this that looked fascinating and delicious. They also make a variety of house gins, vermouths, and bitters that are all excellent which you can purchase online or, if you are so inclined, at the bar itself! If you are into craft cocktails, you owe it to yourself to go here. You have to get a reservation; don't try just waltzing in or you will end up frustrated. It's a small space and tends to book up. For me, it's better than other speakeasies I've been to where they don't take reservations and you have to either show up at opening or wait in line for over an hour to get in. I do wish that you could stay there longer than 1 hour 15 min, but I can understand why they would have to set a limit in order to accommodate more people. I also get why some other reviewers were put off by their gimmicks such as the password, the silly "rules" list (which I don't think they actually really enforce), and the 5-euro membership (which you are required to get), but while I didn't love these things, I saw them as minor playful touches with the real star being the drinks themselves. Some other reviewers were calling the place pretentious and I can understand that, but the drinks surpassed the hype for me when a lot of the more "famous" cocktails bars have let me down. A fun description and interesting ingredients are one thing, but you have to actually execute and balance everything. They go above and beyond here.

Smuggler's whiskey

Top-notch speakeasy and clearly one of the best cocktail bars in the world. Exceptional service, beautiful space and amazing drinks. We were lucky enough to get seats at the bar and enjoyed a precise and friendly service and some of the most exquisitely flavored drinks I've ever enjoyed. I started with a short pour of their prohibition style whiskey which was clearly very high proof but very smooth and delicious. We also enjoyed a clarified old-fashioned, and a "Holy Manhattan" with orgreat, sandalwood and caramelized mandarin oil. Remember that this place requires a password to get in. We did not have a reservation and so our time at the bar was limited, but the whole experience was absolutely worth it and I would return in a heartbeat.

This place blows and the doorman is unprofessional. Not even worth the one star, your time or your money. Skip it.

What a cool and chic cocktail bar!…read more My husband and I visited Peaky Blinders kind of by mistake. We were on our way to Jerry Thomas Speakeasy and turned into the wrong street and saw their bright red door. We didn't stop here at first and went on our way to Jerry Thomas. Like always, JT was packed and they said they probably wouldn't have any openings until 1am (it was 9pm). We decided to go back and check out that cute little bar with the bright red door and were quickly welcomed by the owner and staff. This bar is inspired by the show Peaky Blinders and they have a lot of decor that goes in connection to the show. At the time of ordering our drinks, they told us that they didn't have a lot of the ingredients for most of the cocktails in the menu because they couldn't find fresh ingredients in the market and they are very particular as to what they serve to their customers. The owner quickly asked us what we were in the mood for and that he would prepare something unique just for us. I asked him for something fresh, but not too sweet with gin or vodka. He delivered exactly what I asked him and it was the most delicious drinks ever! I was honestly inspired by how passionate he was about the produce he was using in his cocktails, and how much love and dedication he had for serving the best of the best.

My cousins and I have been here 2 nights in a row, going on 3! You walk down a slightly unsettling…read moreroad into an unexpectedly comfortable and welcoming bar... then you never want to leave. We had an old fashioned, a Daiquiri, and an English Rose (sweet, complex) on the first day, all of which were perfect. I spent 2 or more hours sitting and talking at a comfortable volume, listening to chill music. Lorenzo was our bartender for most of our trip (but we also just met Igino, who is also a great bartender!!), and every drink he made us was exactly what we wanted. On our second day, we had the Manhattan, Lorenzo's version of the English Rose, and a Moscow Mule. Then a new drink with cranberry and almond, another Lorenzo English Rose (because my cousin tasted it and loved it), and another Old Fashioned. Igino also made us some amazing drinks based on what we liked about our other drinks, and made us feel so welcome. Not only are the bartenders, drinks, music, and atmosphere amazing here, but the people who come here and chat with you are also super chill and friendly. You can tell that people who come to this bar are familiar with this place and love it as much as we already do. As cool as some of the bars in this city are, this one is one you can feel at home in. Definitely stop by, because you won't regret it, and you'll probably find yourself coming back as many days as you're here.
