Then Dr. Shih spent some time reviewing those results before coming in to look at my eyes. Long discussion about pros and cons of different solutions, what I could expect from the surgery and next steps. I asked why she wanted to do surgery on each eye on different dates. Basic answer - it's rare that something goes wrong but if it does we don't want you to have two eyes possibly damaged. Made a lot of sense to me. I was back in the office a few days later to have my eyes measured with different machines to identify the best lens for my eyes. I was a bit apprehensive about the first surgery but it wasn't scary at all. Second eye done two weeks later. Follow up next day after each surgery and then again 1 week later. The results have been amazing. Everything is so much clearer, brighter and less yellow. So glad I had this done. Dr. Shih's skill and professionalism - along with her support team, were important to that success.

My primary care doctor wanted me to see an ophthalmologist and submitted a referral to PAMF. The…read morereferral specified that I should see an ophthalmologist. I've verified this with my doctors office. Upon receiving the referral, PAMF called me to say they saw the referral and would have me meet with a doctor here. I discovered upon check-in (several weeks later) that the doctor I'm waiting to see (it's already half an hour past my appointment start time and no one has even brought me into the appointment room) is an optometrist. The receptionist told me that PAMF doesn't let patients meet with ophthalmologists unless they're having surgery. I'm incredibly frustrated at the misleading appointment booking practices and the long wait as well. I took the afternoon off of work to come here and it's clear that not only do appointments not start anywhere near on time, but that the entire 1.5 hours I'm supposed to spend here once I'm seen is going to be a waste of both a lot of my time, and some unknown amount of money. I don't like getting my eyes poked and dilated for no reason and losing valuable vacation time to boot. It's incredibly dishonest for PAMF to book revenue for a visit that is literally not what the doctor ordered. The bait and switch attempt should require patient approval. If you've also been referred here for specialty care, beware and keep looking.

After the surgery, my…read moreleft eye still had 1.25 diopters of astigmatism (this eye had some incisions but no toric IOL), while my right eye had 0.75 diopters of astigmatism (this eye received a toric IOL). The left eye worked well for arm-length vision, like for computer work, but the right eye struggled at this distance. For distance vision, the left eye was around 20/30, while the right eye was close to 20/20, which was overall acceptable. However, just a couple of months post-surgery, I developed posterior capsule opacification (PCO) in both eyes. The left eye was quite severe, requiring a YAG laser treatment almost immediately. Both eyes also developed large floaters, which have not improved even after more than a year. Over time, my right eye's vision has progressively worsened. It's now about 20/40 for distance, and significantly worse for arm-length tasks. I recently went back to see Dr. Shiuey to check if the toric IOL in my right eye had rotated. Unfortunately, he seemed more focused on emphasizing how successful the initial surgery was and was reluctant to discuss solutions for the current issues. He rushed through the appointment and didn't allow time for further discussion, leaving me quite disappointed with the experience. In addition, the receptionists at this office are unfriendly and sometimes outright rude. When I had questions and was in the wrong line, they quickly dismissed me with unkind looks. Making an appointment by phone is also a major hassle--it typically takes almost an hour to get through to someone. Overall, my experience has been quite frustrating.

Kristin was very helpful with scheduling an appointment and promptly taking care of some preliminary tests when I arrived. Very soon after that Dr Shuiey saw me, and answered all my concerns about the different methods of addressing my moderate astigmatism, and which would be most suitable for my active lifestyle. I really liked that there was no pressure to proceed, and both Kristin and Dr Shiey were very open and helpful with my questions about the cost. I continued to talk to other eye surgeons, and while there were cheaper options available I didnt want to proceed with surgeons who tried to use high-pressure sales tactics, or didn't want to spend any time talking about my concerns regarding possible problems with high-impact sports and night vision. Two months ago I decided to proceed with Dr Shiuey and I am so glad I did. The surgery went fine, and while i did have a little pain and dryness in the days afterwards, I was able to get in to see the good doctor on short notice, and they new drops he prescribed sorted that out quickly. I now have 20/15 vision in both eyes, and love that I never need glasses - i even use sunglasses less than before the surgery, and my night vision is much better than it ever used to be even with glasses. I would strongly recommend talking to the staff at PAMF about permanent escape from needing glasses.

Dr Liu was the first on the list of recommended ophthalmologists, given to me by my optometrist. I also checked Yelp reviews and Dr Liu had very positive reviews. I felt lucky to get an appointment with Dr Liu, just a few days after calling his office - due to a cancellation, and was able to schedule my cataract surgery less than 4 weeks later. From the first time I met Dr Liu, I felt like he was a kind and caring doctor, who listened to me and answered all of my questions. I was also impressed by all the technicians there, and ease of scheduling all of my appointments in advance. Over the last 6-1/2 weeks, I had my LAL cataract surgery on both eyes, two adjustments in right eye and one adjustment in left eye, and did my second and final lock in two days ago. I am very happy with the outcome of my LAL cataract surgery and my vision at this time - I can see better than I have in years! Thank you Dr Liu!!

My mom has macular degeneration in both eyes, and her right eye is already blind because of the disease. Over the past year, the cataract in her left eye worsened significantly--she could no longer read newspapers or view images on her iPad, and she had to stop playing cards. Her macular specialist recommended cataract surgery; however, her regular eye doctor refused to perform it, believing she was too old and that the risks were too high. We were very discouraged and began seeking a second opinion. I found Dr. Liu on Yelp. After examining my mom's left eye, he was confident that he could perform the surgery safely. The surgery went very smoothly, and my mom didn't feel much pain or discomfort afterward. Dr. Liu even mentioned that my mom is not his oldest patient--he has successfully performed surgery on patients over 100 years old, which is truly amazing!

My father saw Dr. Hu for an appointment that was scheduled as a glaucoma screening. He also reported a persistent foreign body sensation in his right eye that had been causing pain for some time. During the visit, Dr. Hu took a quick look and told him there was nothing, but she did not evert his eyelid to check under the lid. When my father asked for eye drops to help with the pain, Dr. Hu became impatient and said the appointment was "for glaucoma screening only." She added that she was an "ophthalmologist," that she had "a lot of patients," and instructed us to make a separate appointment with an optometrist for the foreign body concern. The glaucoma screening portion also felt rushed and poorly explained. Tests were performed without any clear explanation of what they were for, and the results were not interpreted for us. For example, when I asked about my father's eye pressure, Dr. Hu answered "17" but did not explain whether that number was normal or what it meant in context. We were ushered out of the exam room while we still had unanswered questions. My father mentioned that he had used artificial tears for five days without relief. Dr. Hu responded in a dismissive manner that he should use them for "weeks or months, not days," then handed us several printouts about dry eye and told us to read them and follow the steps before seeing an optometrist. Five days later, my father saw Dr. Catherine Wang at the same clinic. Dr. Wang examined him and removed the source of his foreign body sensation from his right eye. He felt immediate relief and has not had the painful sensation since. Based on this outcome, I am very disappointed that my father's discomfort lasted longer than it needed to, and that his concern was not addressed more carefully during the first visit. If my father had followed Dr. Hu's instruction to wait "weeks or months" before seeking further care, I cannot imagine how much worse his condition might have become. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Wanda Hu, and I hope the clinic will review this incident to ensure future patients receive thorough examinations, clear explanations, and respectful care.
