Every year in the spring, they host the home tour which includes a party and self-guided tour of specially selected historically renovated homes. They have been the guiding force behind the Riverside Arts Market, now in its 10th year, located underneath the Fuller Warren Bridge. They also help host the annual Luminaria held in mid-December which lights up the streets of Riverside, similar to displays held in the US Southwest. It's especially charming, to drive down historic streets and see the decorated homes with the bagged candles on every sidewalk. They are not like an HOA (home owners association) and do not "rule" over us here in Riverside and Avondale like some think, but do provide guidance when needed. They also help with research and are advocates for preservation. Without them, Riverside and Avondale would not be the beautiful place it is today.

I called wildlife rescue coalition and was told to bring the injured squirrel to a rehabber who would then take it to the vet. Upon driving the squirrel 45 mins to a home in Jacksonville, the rehabber told me she may or may not take it the vet. She would keep it for observation even though I told her the squirrel fell and have pictures of the squirrels leg hanging and turned completely backwards. Once the rehabber took possession of the baby squirrel, she ceased communication with me about its condition until I mentioned I wouldn't give her a donation if she can't give me common courtesy. Two days later, she notifies me she never took the squirrel to the vet and it died. What an awful experience. I will never again take an injured animal to these rehabbers--it was a death sentence.

While the workers know a lot about the Civil War, the two I talked to were both huge revisionist nuts. Any historian will tell you the war was about slavery, but not according to these Teahadists. Saw one on Television tonight calling himself a "historian" and attacking people who want to change the name of Nathan Bedford Forrest High School--his critique of them and their argument? "They're communists." "Ultra-left-wing, liberal, communists." If you're proud of your cultural history (or just an admitted racist), it might be a good place to go pick up good talking points that will sound great to anyone who's not informed. But once this last generation of apologists dies out, hopefully thd collection will be taken to a more proper historical place--like MOSH. ETA: for the lady who wrote to tell me, "No one needs your political views either," I would just say that I don't present political views here--just facts. What they've said in the museum or on television. The two people I've talked with most here are revisionists (ask any actual historian who specializes in the period of the Civil War, and they'll debunk all arguments about how the war wasn't really about slavery, etc.). I'm a proud southerner, and MANY of my relatives fought in the CSA, mostly in units from Georgia. If you see something political, it's because you're projecting.

But it is a medical facility and for those who just wanted to walk in without an appt., think about what your dentist would do if you just dropped in. Next, masks. Whether you personally believe in them or not, many of the patients who go there are on chemotherapy or are otherwise immune challenged. So, for those who don't believe masks work, tell your surgeon not to wear a mask while operating on you and see what happens. I am a nurse practitioner and know that masks do work. Lastly, I must say that Anne was fantastic and professional. She fitted me well and addressed my concerns. Ask yourselves, who are so critical of this place, why the women who work there do so, when they could work anywhere else. They are dedicated to helping women who need them, like ME. Dealing with a cancer diagnosis and living with the after affects of treatment is bad enough but…read moregoing to a place that is suppose to be caring and empathetic to our needs and is anything but adds insult to injury. After surgery and 29 rounds of radiation I developed significant lymphedema in my breast, chest wall and back. My Dr ordered 3 compression bras vest style and PT to work on drainage. I was referred to In the Pink for the bras had my fitting on 8/11 ordered 2 and was told they were $600 each and would be in the following week. On 8/12 they billed my insurance $1492.78 which was $292 more then I was quoted. My insurance paid them $970.32 leaving me a much larger balance then the $360 originally anticipated. So they were paid immediately yet for the last 5 weeks I have been calling to get an answer on why/when I would receive my bras. My PT was temporarily discontinued because without the compression garments it wasn't benefiting and they didn't want to run out of authorized sessions before working with the garments in place. They never returned phones call, and when I did talk to anyone they stated there was no way to track the order or information really in the 21st century you want me to believe that. I contacted my insurance company as the pain and discomfort was becoming unbearable on top of the emotional stress from the unprofessional service and lack of concern. My insurance company tried over a period 10 days to contact In the Pink via phone and email with no response. So basically they had their $970 for something they never delivered and I was unable to get a reauthorization because when a medical device provider bills it's assumed receipt of the item and they could not confirm from In the Pink the items were never received. Today I called for the 9th time and was told 1 bra was there when it arrived no one knows because they don't notify you. When I went in it wasn't the color I ordered but I needed something and the 2nd bra is on back order possible delivery date unknown so I cancelled it as well as the additional items requested by my Dr. When I left I went to the manufactures retail website (amoena.usa) put in the description and stock number from the box and the exact same item is sold directly for $117 with free shipping. WTF a 500% mark-up. I was able to order my additional items with a confirmed delivery of 9/23 all for less than the cost of my co-pay amount at In the Pink. Don't get taken advantage of this way do your research talk with your providers and advocate for yourself. I have a follow-up call with my insurance escalation manager and will recommend they end the federal employees contract with this provider. So disappointed as I have people close to me also dealing with breast cancer issues and could not recommend they go to In the Pink and they to are worker with their insurance to find alternative options. Luckily my PT was able to give me some options to pass on to them also. I will be meeting with my oncology team at MD Anderson next week and will share my experience with them so they are aware when providing referral options. Follow-up: I can see a mistake initially but I called multiple times and was told over the 5 week period the items were not in yet. I left detailed voice mails with no follow-up so I disagree fully with your perception of the issue. Secondly I understand there is a maximum amt that "can" be charged but a 500% mark-up in any situation is excessive but in this type of service seems callous at best.
