Located in the Donald Golden Building at the Mount Sinai Medical Complex You know how in health articles you are prompted to always talk to your doctor, ask questions, and make sure you're doctor is really looking out for your best medical interest, but then you get to the doctor's office, wait for an hour and then get rushed right out? yeah... well that's exactly what WILL NOT happen here! Before you even walk into the office, you make an appointment with a super super super nice lady, Idalia (did I say she was super?). It is so hard to find good staff at medical offices. I had called to book an apt. with Dr. Berkowitz, the other podiatrist in the office, but he doesn't accept my insurance, however, that did not stop her from communicating with him back and forth trying to work out a good financial arrangement for me, and the doctor was very accommodating. I asked if another doctor in the group accepted my provider and came across Dr. Carmel - lucky me! I got the last appointment of the day, and with foot spray on hand went on over to be x-ray'd and examined. From the moment you walk in, the office feels pleasant. There is a small and cozy waiting room, with black and white pictures of feet - yeah, those cute baby feet pics always get you! There is a TV and tons of magazines all spread out. But don't think of grabbing a magazine, b/c you'll barely have time to sit down before you're ushered in to the examining room. Once in, Maria, the assistant took me to the back to do the x-rays, and before I could finish filling out my new patient form the doctor was already in the room eager to work. At no moment did I feel like I was holding anyone back, and I am glad I felt comfortable enough to talk to the doctor just about anything. I wish he did more than just podiatry, I'd have him be my doctor for every ailment - that's how awesome he was. I walked in at 4:30 pm and left close to 6pm. Now I don't want to spend an hour and a half at the doctor's office - who would? But when I stay so late because I am receiving the doctor's total attention and he's involving me and explaining every step of the treatment, I'll stay there a month if I have to. Unfortunately the diagnosis sentenced me to 21 full days of wearing nothing other than sneakers, and if you know me at all, I'm a 4"+ kinda gal, but oh well, that's the price I gotta pay to keep me running strong! read more

I have had a problem with my feet for some time, but not any more . Dr. Carmel took great care of my needs . Its like walking on clouds. The office staff was outstanding ,excellent customer service. I recommend Dr. Carmel for all your foot care needs. read more

Dr Carmel diagnosed me with a stress fracture after taking an X Ray. Put a compression sock on me and said I'd be fine in 3 weeks. Sold me $700 worth of orthotics. After weeks and weeks of distress the foot got so bad my family doctor told me to get to an emergency room right away as the foot had swollen badly and I couldn't walk on it. He ordered a CT Scan and MRI. The radiologist said I never had a fracture but that I had a badly torn tendon which needed immediate attention. I went to see an orthopedic surgeon and he said that the tendon was badly ruptured and that there was no fracture. He said I was misdiagnosed. I spent 9 months in a full ankle brace. Finally healed. Terrible terrible experience dealing with the staff.. Unfortunately I will never be a patient of Dr. Carmel's and it's ridiculous the reason why. Let me begin by saying I chose my insurance based on the fact he was IN my network and I have been waiting a long time to see him. I even made my appointment 2 months in advance to guarantee there would be no conflicts regarding my insurance, correct records and appointment time. From the 1st moment they answered the phone Ive experienced nothing but attitude. I made the appointment the same day I signed up with my new insurance carrier. Again, 2 months in advance. I explained I was waiting for my physical cards. But I still had my policy number. I gave it to Idalia and she immediately argued she didn't except my insurance although it clearly does. She threatened to cancel my appointment if I didn't provide her with a new insurance option. I told to keep me on schedule as I would even come in as a SELF PAY if I had to... I have a fracture in my foot and a completely collapsed arch. I need medical attention. I am a yoga instructor and NEED to be on my feet every day for many hours. I'm in pain all day every day. This appointment is so important to me! I called again when I got my physical new insurance card in the mail. I told Idalia I could pass by with it or send her a copy to verify. Again, she snarled at me threatening to cancel my appointment. For a 2nd time I begged her not to cancel it. She was so rude and wouldn't let me talk and basically kept saying the same thing not allowing to re explain my insurance WAS accepted. I was surprised after the degrading way she spoke to me, that I was able to keep my cool. You catch more bees with honey than with vinegar.. So within the last week I have discovered that Florida has the weird situation going on between my insurance providers and physicians offices. Aetna actually had to call directly to advise them they are in fact IN network. I call Idalia yesterday to ask her if she ever ran my insurance.. She said I never sent the information!?! Uggggg. Seriously. So then I as what her hours will be the following day so that I can have Aetna call her directly. She snaps at me yet again that it's not her responsibility to take the call nor fix my insurance problem..?!? WTH?!? But guess what.. IT IS!! She is the billing dept, insurance dept and the office manager! She told me if you need to see a doctor to go to the ER. Still, I remain sweet and calm and humble as she continues to raise her voice at me. This morning (the Friday before my Monday appointment) I call my insurance at 8:30 am to arrange the phone call to Idalia. A few hours later I get a call from my insurance telling me that although my approval was fixed and there was no problems.. I am being refused service!!!! Yes, after 2 months of waiting my appointment had been cancelled a few weeks back.. REFUSED SERVICE FOR PERSONAL REASONS!?! Of course I call and soooo sweet, calm and politely (on eggshells of course) ask why am I being denied service? Have I done anything to offend her by proving my insurance WAS accepted? If it's not the insurance what could possibly be the reason?? Is he no longer taking patients? Why did they wait till now to tell me?? The receptionist says 'I don't have time for this' and hangs up on me. I call back and kindly ask for Idalia who happens to pick up. I ask why I'm being denied and her response couldn't of been crueler... I was told.. 'We have no interest in having you as a patient and we feel you are not a suitable match for our office' I reply, but you don't even know me.. She replies 'that's right, and we don't want to. In fact I am going to write in a chart you are never to be a patient here and I am calling your insurance to report you for harassment by calling to ask why you were denied'... YEP... End of conversation. Next call was my insurance company to report HER and the office. Also contacted the BBB and this review is going up where others can be warned of the bad manners behind the desk and phones of that office. What a shame. Not once was I rude or in anyway anything but respectful and patient. Dr. Carmel is known to be an incredibly sweet and kind guy with an impeccable reputation as a doctor. I typically do not post reviews online (especially negative ones) but I feel in this case an obligation to do so. I called Dr. Carmel's office to book an appointment because I was having severe pain in my foot. They checked with my insurance (Cigna) and then called me back to tell me that I had not yet met my deductible so they were offering me a "special" self-pay deal of a "minimum charge" of $450. I needed to agree to pay this amount in order to schedule an appointment. This seemed quite high to me, and I asked whether this was the usual and customary amount that would be approved and reimbursed by Cigna. The person who called me said this would cover the office visit and X-rays. I could speak with the office manager, Idalia, which I did. She also would not answer my question about the usual and customary charge and said that I could speak to my insurance company. She suggested that I might end up paying more by going according to the insurance company's approved charges. I called Cigna and was informed that Dr. Carmel is an in-network podiatrist with Cigna and is obligated under his contractual arrangement to submit my insurance claim, even though I have not yet met my deductible. There would be an "approved amount" for the claim, which is the maximum that he could charge me as well as the amount that would apply toward my deductible. There is an online tool for Cigna, which shows the approved amounts for various procedures (specific to every doctor, including Dr. Carmel). The charge is $81 for an office visit with a new patient and $20 for X-rays. I explained this to Idalia, and she said I was guilty of "harassment" and that I should find another doctor. I called another doctor's office (Dr. Olivera Jovic) and was immediately scheduled for an appointment. read more

Dr Jerald Carmel Florida Foot And Ankle Associates I wanted take a moment and express my experience about my doctor and his staff. Several months ago i went to see Dr Carmel about my medical condition and terrible pain i was having with my feet. I did my research and looked into his experience and past references through contacts i have. Now I understand why he is recognized as a top Surgeon and has clients that travel internationally to be operated on by him. Additionally is one the preferred doctors of many professional models. After meeting Dr Carmel and discussing my condition and issues and hearing his suggestions to correct my pain and feet issues i had my surgery. I made my decision based on his reputation and experience but as important the fact that he treated me like a person a human being not just a patient and listen to my issues my pain. The surgery was such a great success and resolved my issues. To make my experience with Dr Carmel Florida Foot and Ankle a complete success was the experience of his staff. His office manager Idalia and her assistant Gina are such a pleasure to deal with . Idalia was such a polite and professional person to deal with she treated me like a personal friend . It is such a pleasure to have a doctors office manager call you up follow up you ask you how your doing, work with you on your insurance, make sure everything is in order before your surgery as well as follow up after the surgery. Additionally when I have an appointment your actually seen at or very near your appointment time. I'm not a person to take the time usually to write these reviews.
