Dr Jacob Silverstone - you are amazing. I thank god I came to you. Very caring, explaining everything. You did an awesome job, I've had this medical procedure done before - you were the first where the recovery pain from others was a 7-8 (very painful), to yours being a 2 to a 3 (just a slight discomfort once in a while), I'm amazed at the quality, expertise, and experience. Most importantly, if I didn't mention, lack of pain. Doc listened very carefully to what I had going on, calmed me down, took care of me, after the procedure explained the after care. Dr Jacob Silverstone is a Star!!! If you ever need this done again (an ingrown toenail removal) or any foot care, I highly recommend making the drive to see this doc!!!

I'm an RN and was concerned about infection so I inquired if he would give me antibiotics and was told no. Before my two week follow up appointment I could see my toes were too red and swollen with a definite sign of infection so I called the office and explained to the receptionist the situation asking to speak to the Dr, she went to speak to him and said he just wanted me to do what he told me and NO ANTIBIOTICS. I immediately went to another DR and he took one look at me toes and ordered a course of broad spectrum antibiotics. I canceled my follow up appointment because obviously there was no point in seeing him again and I feel he was negligent with my care and definitely do not recommend him.

I don't know what he did inside those toes, but whatever it was ended in disaster, because now the second toe is almost on top of the big toe, causing a deformity, and the only solution is another surgery to put a pin inside that one and the next (and another year of recovery if all goes well, which is not guaranteed). To top it off, the surgery has completely altered my lifestyle, as I live with foot pain on my toes and metatarsal. I can't use the treadmill or the elliptical at the gym; can't do Tai Chi, Zumba or any of the classes I used to take. Can't wear normal shoes either (only extra wide sneakers) or walk long distances without pain. I have never regretted something so much as I have regretted this surgery.

For years, I wanted to have this removed, but each time I seriously considered it, I would hear some story about surgery with long, deep scars, or I would hear stories about how the bunion could return. Because of this, I concluded that wearing only sandals would be my reality for the rest of my life and put the idea of resolution behind me. Over the past two years, I have noticed that my walking and balance have changed. The foot with the bunion was starting to turn in, and even wearing orthotic sandals helped a little but did not correct it. When I went to see Dr. Guyen with my husband, I casually asked her about my bunion, and after consulting with her, I decided to have the surgery. This was the best decision I ever made. Dr. Guyen explained the surgery in such a calm and competent manner I felt confident putting myself in her hands. In one afternoon I let go of 25 years of pain ... Amazing! What took me so long?
