A new restaurant in Bærum is always an exciting event and I had been looking forward to trying 'Jeppehuset' since I saw that some enterprising person would finally use the fabulous location in Stabekk's old Culture House. I went with 4 girlfriends on a Thursday. We booked a table which was smart because the restaurant was full when we arrived at 19:00.
The interior is cool and trendy and I loved the big windows looking out onto the street. There is free parking (after 17:00) almost next door, but even better if you want to have a glass of wine or two, it's right on the 143 bus line. The service was attentive and nicely paced, not too slow or too rushed. We were one of the last tables to leave and we never felt like they were ready to rush us out the door.
But sadly, this is where my positive comments end because while all of the above are important, it's the food that will bring me back and Jeppehuset let me down here. I had the akevittgravede laks (119 nok) as a starter and hjortfilet med rosenkål and tyttebæer (289nok). The hjortfillet was very tough and overcooked and there is really no excuse to serve boiled brussel sprouts in the 21st century. I am sure the tyytebæer sauce was from a jar which was also a great disappointment. I am left with the impression that the owners of Jeppe know they have a great location ("If you build it, they will come"). I just hope they realize they also need great food for me to become a regular customer. read more
