Unlike that soulless TV chef-trap, Håndverksbakeriet (Handworks Bakery) bakes up craft breads and pastries and serves them up with wicked coffee and drinks. The staff there is also a big seller. Every time that I've been there they're just amazingly pleasant, nice people. They get to practice their English, as I, sadly, do not speak Norwegian, which I must fix one of these days. I get great food, great service, and a nice place to sit and get out of the hubbub of the summer holiday crowds strolling by the harbor. Better than the chain places around it, by far.

Not completely sure how fresh everything is but the food I got was tasty. Everything is priced pretty low too which is nice. You get what you pay for. The staff at this cafe are super nice and for the most part very customer focused (which can be a rarity here in Oslo!). The coffees i´ve tried (both hot and chilled) are as delicious as you would expect from the Stockfleths name. And the food assortment is well stocked, fresh and fabulous looking. A great refurbishment to a space that was once tired and in need of TLC (tender loving care). I look forward to many more caffeine infused days! Welcome to `løkka´!

It's made with more delicate touch than most sweets you find in town. The chef is passionate about his pasteis, as I overheard him talking to his souschef about experimenting variations yet finding perfection of the classic version that has stood over 150 years. The cafe is rather small, though not a problem: many customers come and get a pack of sweets to go. There are 5-10 different Portuguese pastries laid out for oohs and aahs of guests. It's nice to be able to get a variety of bite-size treats (4 for a reasonable 100kr) than one big one. I tried the daglunsj, a carrot-coriander soup, and also a tigelada and a coconut-chocolate cake thing. They were nice, but not special enough to make the trip like the pasteis. I'd give 3 for the soup and the other sweets, 4 for the pasteis.

The egg and bacon toast was really good, the bacon was like extra bacony and crispy. The space was really cute. Got to love scandinavian interior design! All of their bread is made with sourdough - even the sweet buns! They let their doughs mature for a very long time (a full 40 hours for the breads), which makes for the tastiest and chewiest bread I have ever tried. Using sourdough in sweet baking is also something I have never come across before, but it makes the buns extremely moist. On my first visit, I tried the white sourdough and egg salad sandwich, which was freshly made and delicious, the sourdough bread with pumpkin seeds, the cardamom sweet bun, the blackcurrant sweet bun, the almond and chocolate sweet bun, a lemon poppy seed muffin and the cream cheese cookies (no, not all in one sitting - I had to take som of it home ;). The muffin itself would have been worth the visit, as it was the fluffiest and yet most succulently flavourful muffin I have tasted! I also had a coffee and a carrot, orange and ginger juice, which was vibrant and fresh. In addition, the staff at Handwerk are extremely friendly, and the manager, Pontus, was more than willing to share his insight about sourdough baking and offered me tips on how to improve my sourdough. I will most definitely be stopping by Handwerk whenever I am in the area, as this is my new favourite bakery!
