Owner came out to see the left over lawn destruction of rocks and dirt. He was embarrassed and said they do not operate that way. He resolved the issue of my complaint, prepped and nodded the dirt areas in the yard, and free of charge installed a rock barrier at the end of terraces to reduce erosion. If I could give Jensen Gardens 25 stars or more I would. This is the second time I've worked with them and will never call anyone else. They arrived on time to give their estimate, followed up quickly with a bid and kept me informed as to when the crew would come to do the work. The crew too arrived when promised, the crew chief Oscar reviewed with us as to what was being done and they immediately started. I have never seen 3 men hustle and work together as a team like they did. We had them remove landscape timbers from around two trees, move dirt, mulch under 2 trees, clean out a real mess of weeds & overgrowth behind a garage, put down mesh around the plants in the block wall they built many years ago, added river rock to the entire +125 foot wall and sodded a spot where a tree was recently removed. All this in less than 6 hours. I was amazed with their professionalism and work ethics. They were very polite and answered all questions. Before they left they cleaned up everything and checked with me to make sure all was ok. I couldn't be any happier with the work they did and already have another project in mind for them. This job included removing an existing concrete retaining wall and parking pad, and replacing it with a new block wall and parking pad. It should have been a red flag when they had me sign the contract, but did not have anyone on their end sign when I dropped off a deposit. When I asked to have a signed copy of the contract, it seemed like the person I was dealing with was surprised. This is a clear indication that the contract is in place to protect them, and my interests are not as important. The crew installing the retaining wall put large pallets of stone in my neighbor's yard. I contacted Kolby and they moved the pallets, but the neighbors lawn was left with divots. Not long after that, I realized they were driving a tracked bobcat all over my lawn and my neighbor's lawn. The soil in my lawn was left compacted, but they put some grass seed down... My neighbor's lawn has track marks across his lawn. When I complained Kolby did stop by. He talked with me and my neighbor and said they would get it fixed. We talked about a light tilling to get rid of the soil compaction and then have some top soil put in place to make the soil level again. This did not happen. I went to Jensens' office to talk to someone and the staff in the front went to get a manager in a nearby building and told me to leave my information and they would get back to me. This is the same routine they went through when I called to try to get my neighbor's lawn corrected before. Both times I indicated I wanted to speak to Kolby's boss, and both times they had Kolby contact me. The same Kolby that failed numerous times to handle the work throughout the life of the project. In addition to the damage done to the yard, the crew stepped all over the plants in the beds around the steps they were installing. There was no attempt to protect them. There was not an apology about their destruction. The finish work on the walls is so, so. They made some interesting choices in how they did the work. The termination of the caps is uneven on one side of the steps leading up from the street vs. the other side. Just lots of little things that led me to refer to the crew as "framers" vs. "finish carpenters". They took a shortcut on the steps leading to my front porch (probably to save them from having to cut the stone?) and we had to have them tear out the steps and reinstall so that it was aesthetically pleasing. When they came back to redo the steps, they brought stone and materials down the sidewalk instead of over the neighbor's lawn. If they had done that from the start, the damage to the neighbor's lawn would not have occurred. When they brought in top soil to back fill behind the wall, something that was called out in the contract, there were so many weed seeds in the soil that I have to weed every day in an attempt to get rid of them. They could have saved some of the soil they removed to install the wall and reused it. There was not weed seed in it. There would have been enough top soil, as they removed about a foot of topsoil to build the new wall. I suspect they forgot about the backfill, and only remembered when I complained it. All of these things could have been avoided with a little more oversight to the work being done and follow up on the things they said they would do. It is telling that the management will not contact me. I have to believe that they care about their reputation. Advice: Get it in writing. Insist on a plan that includes a drawing with dimensions. Read the contract carefully. They like to include things like, "Terms of payment: 1/3 down, 2/3 upon substantial completion." In other words, they reserve the right to bill you before the work is done. UPDATE: Changing from 2 to 3 stars. The owner did come out and they sent a "finish crew". The neighbors yard was repaired. They aerated my yard that was compacted, and the neighbors yard that was compacted. They replaced the cap stones on much of the wall and it looks better. The owner did listen and work to make things right, and I appreciate that. He agreed with me on the problems that I pointed out and was very apologetic. read more

We had a wonderful experience working with Jensen Gardens and have no hesitation in recommending them for your landscaping needs. They are not a mow and blow operation but a fully equipped landscape operation. Kolby is the designer and estimator. He made and kept all of his appointments. He took photographs, took measurements, drew rough designs and then spent a long time figuring out what we wanted and what was recommended. His to scale computer generated renderings took form under the watchful eye of Russ the foreman and his crew. The crew showed up as scheduled, worked diligently over a 2 day period and transformed our front, side and back yard into a beautiful landscaped property complete with berms, trees, bushes, plants etc. Everything they planted was true to the design and their trees, bushes, plants and various grasses were all high quality and healthy. Jensen Gardens recently finished up a large landscaping project for me (34 grand), and I just wanted to share what a wonderful job they did. I've had several landscaping projects over the years with different companies, and was expecting the worst. But they seriously exceeded my expectations in every way! They started the job sooner than they told me, got it done in a short period of time, didn't start, do part of it, then move on to another job, repeat the same, and cause the job to last all summer. They got it done in a week and a half! And they had one crew, who were amazing, who did everything, including tree trimming, outdoor lighting, drainage, grading, planting. The only thing they contracted out was laying sod, and the company they brought in did a great job as well. Sure, everything wasn't perfect, but pretty darn near. We had multiple plants and trees die and toward the end of the warranty period, Jensen Gardens began to refuse to replace the items that died. From the very beginning we had weeds/grass growing through the mulch b/c they didn't remove enough soil with the sod cutter. We had River Birch trees planted with dead limbs in them that we had to cut out ourselves and 3 pine trees that were planted in a wet area of the yard so they all died. I had to contact the BBB b/c Mr. Jensen would not return our phone calls -- in the end the company asked us for an addition $140 to replace the dead tree on top of the $12,000 that we originally paid for our landscape design. Definitely keep these things in mind - poor customer service and refusal to replace dead trees - and look into other companies! read more
