I only did 8 sessions as Jenny moved to Cali, but let me tell you, my shoulder pain is 97% gone and same for my hand. My back is sooo much better too!. I've been moving parts of my body that I never knew that they where not moving properly and I'm super happy with the results. I first started working with Jenny Hall during my pregnancy to relieve pain and discomfort from the precipitous hormonal and physical changes in my body, and found her to be an invaluable partner in learning how to move with balance and care during a very disorienting time. Jenny is an incredibly intuitive body worker. I found her after considering surgery for knee pain that would not go away even after PT. After 8 or sessions with Jenny I no longer felt like I needed surgery. She is a skilled worker and made me feel very safe. I came to see Jenny Hall as I've struggled with lingering physical injuries that needed to get straightened out. Regular massage therapy only helped to a certain (surface) point. It always felt more like putting a temporary bandaid on the issues whereas Rolfing is helping me regain and refind the way the body's supposed to work. The Rolfing sessions have really provided me with a thorough realignment, working from the inside out. I found Jenny through a referral after enduring through exhaustion after the birth of my two young children. She is an incredible healer and expert at what she does and after a few sessions, I felt my chronic exhaustion lift and move out of my body. She spent our 2nd session working on my C section scar gently, and after the session I felt lightheaded and woozy, but as if something had shifted. "What just happened?" I asked, and Jenny responded softly, "that's the anesthesia (from your C Sections) leaving your body." I had never heard of such a thing and yet, in that moment, knew intuitively what she said was true. I have since gained much of my energy back and saw her for a complete 10 session cycle. I have terrible hammer toes and two podiatrists convinced me I needed to have them surgically fixed. But I thought to find out what rolfing -- which I'd read a little about -- might do for them. I was amazed after just one session at how much Jenny's attention to my toes eased them down. Then I followed her instructions to spend the next week barefoot when in my apartment. This has really been surprising! I don't know that the bent tendons inside the toes are totally fixed forever, but I'm certainly going to take this further and have at least several more sessions with Jenny to see if I can avoid the surgery. I also have to commend the way she talks one through a session, not only describing and explaining what she's doing, but also in general giving her patient a sense of having her total attention for the time-being and of her pleasure in being your helper. I went to see Jenny because I was training for a 10K. I hadn't run in years,and was experiencing lower back pain and numbness in one of my legs, and it was making it impossible for me to progress. I suspected my problems were due to alignment issues (rather than orthopedic ones) and within a few sessions I felt much better. I was able to run the 10k and have since run another one plus two 5 K races. I've also experienced low back pain for years and at age 50 I feel better and fitter than I did at 30--Jenny's work gave me the ability to push myself and make significant fitness gains. Before I started my 10 series with Jenny, my only reference for rolfing was that it was supposed to be super painful - which I pleasantly learned is not the case. Jenny's style gives only -- and seemingly exactly -- what the body needs in order to shift. It was so surprising and such a good lesson to find that work on one part of the body affects all other parts, and that while it might hurt in one place, working on that part of the body is often not the way to relieve that pain. Whether it was release of deeply held tension I didn't know I had or relief from immediate pain, every session showed me how integrated my body really is. I was already reasonably aware of my body from pilates practice, but I learned something new from Jenny every session that totally transformed how my brain interacted with my body. I also unlearned many problem-making misconceptions about what is good for my body. Without any expectations or knowing what to expect, I turned to Rolfing after seeing a chiropractor, a physiologist, a DO, and having months of physical therapy to deal with persistent hip, sacral, and thigh pain and tightness. While the physical therapy kept it at bay, I knew it hadn't fixed the underlying problem. I knew I needed something wiser that was able to deal with the complexity of my acute hip pain and much older habits stemming from breaking my ankle more than a decade ago. I reached out to Jenny to schedule a Prenatal Rolfing appointment when I was about 6 months pregnant. It had been a healthy and fairly uneventful pregnancy, but I was beginning to feel pain in various parts of my body as I was struggling to accommodate the growing weight and size of my baby. By the time I had reached the third trimester, my alignment was feeling off, my joints were swelling, I was having a harder time walking and standing, and I was experiencing strange stabbing pains in different parts of my body. Very uncomfortable! Meeting with Jenny was incredibly helpful. Her highly skilled hands seemed to know exactly where to go to help my system feel more ease and fluidity. In our sessions, she maintained a gentle, calming, yet firmly supportive presence. She invited movement as well as relaxation in the Rolfing process. Our work together was more focused and targeted than a full body massage, and the effects lingered longer than other bodywork I've had. I was able to sleep more comfortably after our sessions and felt refreshed upon waking. After the birth in the postpartum period, Jenny helped my body find its way back to its pre-pregnancy alignment, assisting my hips, legs, back, and even my internal organs(!) in the adjustment of no longer having to accommodate a baby. I started working with Jenny at the end of my 2nd trimester. I was having a lot of hip/sciatic pain. I was still working (I am a massage therapist/doula) and I was afraid I would have to stop earlier than I wanted to. Each visit was extremely informative. Jenny helped me each time by not only addressing and actually fixing the issue I was having (which can be like putting out fires when you're pregnant as your body changes) but she also explained what she was doing and why which was helpful to inform my self care outside of our appointments. Her technique is not what I expected as it is not deep work like traditional Rolfing. She assessed my walk and how I stood and saw where things might be stuck in my body, her work feels very thorough but also as if she's doing magic on you because the work is so subtle. I recommend this work for literally anyone and everyone, it has made my pregnancy much more comfortable than it would have been. I'm still working at 37 weeks because of her and because of the work she did I really feel like it has given me the confidence in my body to handle whatever labor throws my way. read more
