The Jenks Planetarium is something everyone has to check out. If you thought Jenks only had football then clearly you've never been here!
They don't sell any tickets at the door - you'll need to buy them online. Some shows sell out pretty early so it's best to do this earlier if you can. They offer about five or six shows that they rotate. Most are space-themed but we saw "The Sistine Chapel."
The shows take place in Jenks' new planetarium. Since there are no tickets sold at the door, you just show up and they check your name off of a list. The theater holds a little over 100 people and is actually the highest planetarium (from floor to ceiling) in Oklahoma. Our show sold out, so literally every seat was taken.
The show lasted about 45 minutes - this one was produced by the planetarium's director with voice work by Jenks students. It was a really great show and we learned a lot! Immediately after, the director took questions from the audience for about 15 minutes. A lot of people had actually been there so they had some interesting things to ask.
At the very end, he said he had one last thing to show us. He turned the planetarium screen back on and showed us the sky that night and identified Orion, Saturn, Mars, and the Big Dipper. Very cool technology!
Overall, this is a new, cool place that is a great resource for the Jenks community. At $5 a show, it's very affordable. read more
