The staff was kind and welcoming, and I felt truly cared for during my visit. However, my experience took a dramatic turn after I had already paid for my dress and alterations, and I feel compelled to share my story to help others. When I purchased my wedding dress, I made it clear that I was dealing with significant health issues that caused weight fluctuations. This was mentioned not just to the sales associate but in front of the seamstress and my maid of honor as well. I requested that the dress be altered from a zipper back to a corset back to accommodate these fluctuations. I was assured that this request would be fulfilled, and I even paid for both the dress and the alterations upfront. Unfortunately, that was not what happened. When I received the dress, everything seemed fine at first. I stepped into the dress and pulled it up without issue. My maid of honor tied the corset back, and it appeared that the alterations had been done correctly. I didn't think too much of it at the time because I was simply overjoyed to have the dress and was focused on other things, including arranging our move to another province so I can be caring for my mom who was very ill at the time. Fast forward a few years later, after the heartbreaking loss of my mother, I finally returned to the dress. It was incredibly emotional, as this was the one moment she had been so eager to see me in. When I went to put the dress on with my aunt's help, I discovered that the zipper would not fully close. To my shock, there was still a zipper in the back, when I had explicitly requested that it be replaced with a corset. I reached out to The Perfect Gown to explain what had happened, and while they initially seemed receptive, I was deeply disheartened by the response I received from the in-house seamstress. She confirmed that she was the original seamstress and acknowledged that she chose to leave the zipper in place, despite knowing about my health issues and the need for a corset back. She explained that I "fit the dress at the time," but did not provide the alterations I paid for, even though I had clearly requested and paid for them upfront. When I explained my situation--living out of province and dealing with the added costs of travel--she offered to help, but the additional cost of having the dress altered properly would be $200-$400. This was after the initial alterations were not done correctly, and the original work had already been paid for. The stress this situation caused, especially considering how important this dress was to me and my family, was absolutely heartbreaking. I feel devastated by the fact that this dress, the only one my mom would have seen me in, is now unwearable, all because of a mistake that should never have happened. It's not just a dress--it was the dress, and it holds more emotional value than I can express. I can't justify paying hundreds or even thousands more to fix an issue that should have been addressed correctly from the start. After much thought, I've made the difficult decision to no longer support The Perfect Gown. I hope that this review serves as a cautionary tale for future brides and that they are able to fully trust that the alterations they request and pay for will be done as promised. This experience has left me feeling incredibly disappointed and heartbroken. Please note the image is covered as the wedding has not taken place and I intent to find another seamstress who can assist in hopes that I can still salvage some of it.
