I am really happy I made the switch! The office is located in a strip mall in Burke Centre, and has plenty of parking and is easy to access. The interior space is very pleasant, soothing, and immaculate, perfect for a dental office. Better yet, EVERYONE who works here is very warm, helpful, and friendly. After my initial visit in early March of this year, I had to come back for some more work, and I'm happy to say that they cheerfully re-scheduled my appointment several times when the stay-at-home orders started for the coronavirus. When I finally went in towards the end of May, they had multiple precautions in place against the virus. Since I am an older adult, I really appreciated this attention to my health and that of others. My actual dental care was terrific. Both the hygienist and the dentist, Dr. Ghorbani, took time to explain everything to me. It turns out I needed a crown (my first one), but I was not surprised as it was for a tooth that I had suspicions about. Due to some tooth coloration issues, he had my crown made not at his usual lab, but at one somewhere out west that specializes in matching tooth enamel in appearance. He warned me that it was more expensive, but I felt that having a nice-looking tooth (you can see the crown with my normal smile) was worth it. As it turns out, the total bill for all the work, after my insurance paid, was much lower than I thought it was going to be! Dr. Ghorbani and the rest of the Shield Dental Care staff treated me with respect, warmth, and gave me the best possible care. I recommend them to anyone!

Also adults such as myself get chewed up enough at work, to be lectured elsewhere, especially when it's dental time. Here there's none of that irritation, although teeth can be slightly in that fashion after a thorough cleaning. Pain is weakness leaving the body! Admittedly us cavemen aren't always the best with our pearly whites, but this fellow has high praise for their education. It's not pushy, but rather informative. Due to this practice, they planted a seed about teeth/gums and heart health. That's the kind of enlightenment you should get. Here Steve Martin isn't on the staff, but rather Dr G who is actually a really nice guy. Some orthodontists can have this attitude that negatively permeates a practice. That's the opposite here, as he's very genuine, and honest about what your options are. He's also quite funny, and having had novacaine I think it's called shots from him, he's far more gentle than others in the field. Glad to recommend Shield, and hope you and your teeth bite, to make an appointment here!

Finally got scared and went in. Dr. Smiley sees my husband and daughter, so I asked for her. She was gentle and wonderful and now I'm a proud owner of a night guard that I actually .... Like? Yeah I do. Then, I went in for my first cleaning in 17 years. I was not shamed. More like, they were so positive and kind about how my teeth were in surprisingly good shape. They were caring and wonderful. Didn't let me leave without scheduling my next, in a very kind way. Cut to yesterday. I did have 3 cavities. I was TERRIFIED and these wonderful humans called me the afternoon before to offer anxiety meds. (I had some, but talk about understanding your patient and being caring). I was in the chair for 3 hours but she was gentle, walked me through every step, and today my mouth is a little sore, but not much. Dare I say I'm not scared for my cleaning in February? Big thanks to Dr. Smiley. Please never move or leave hahahhaha.

We were initially told they were confident a recommended crown for my wife would be approved by…read moreinsurance and that they would continue appealing until it was approved. After multiple appeals, insurance still denied coverage based on medical necessity criteria, leaving us with a large balance. Over time, the messaging shifted from confidence that it would be approved to comments that our insurance was "the worst," and eventually we were told the PPO contractual adjustment counted as a "discount," which felt misleading to us. As an aside, a different dentist later completed another crown for me that was approved by the same insurance, which made the earlier comments about our insurance being terrible harder to understand. Separately, this office recommended approximately 10 fillings for me personally. I later obtained a second opinion from another dentist who agreed with 2 recommendations. That large difference made me uncomfortable and contributed to my decision to seek care elsewhere.

Only when I asked and said I thought I was going to see Dr Joseph Dehyar, then the son said that he was going to see me instead but that they'd bill under his father's name. That sounded very strange to me, and even weirder that no one, not the receptionist nor the dentist said anything about how they decided to give me a different dentist that day. The exam and cleaning happened, they told me there were many things wrong with my teeth and pushed me to get surgery. When I went to check out the receptionist said, "so what time next week do you want to come in for surgery?" just assuming I was going to get surgery. In my past few years of regular checkups no dentist has said I needed surgery, my last visit being just 6 months before. It all seemed sketchy. I'm going back to my other dentist.

He stated, falsely in my opinion, that the 2 crowns I gave him that had gotten unglued in my mouth could not be used, and charged me full price for three new crowns that he made in-house on his Cerek machine. The two adjacent crowns he made were so poorly made (2 millimeters gap between them) than entire chunks of food would always get lodged between them, causing pain and bleeding to this date, more than 3 months later. One of the crowns he needlessly replaced with the one he made in-house was a zirconia one that had been purposely made extremely strong to minimize wear from teeth grinding. The measurements made for the new crowns he made in-house were made by one of his staff; even though such measurements are crucial,, he didn't bother doing them himself, and the result is that he crowns he made are poor and have a bog gap between them. When I initially confronted Ahmed Saad, he dismissed me with the advice to rinse with a mouthwash he recommended. I complained to the Virignia Board that overseas dentists. Now I have to wait in bleeding pain until next January when my DeltaDental insurance resets again.

Terrible, arrogant, dentist! Avoid at all costs! Never in my life have I met or known a person…read morewho's supposed to be in medical profession that is as arrogant and unprofessional Mr. Nabeel Khan. My husband started going to this practice just because it is closer to the new house we recently moved into. I was going to a different award winning dentist (Not Mr. Khan) far away because I really liked his services. I eventually decided to join my husband at Khan's practice because it's much closer to our new home. My husband had told me that he was nice to him, which I found not to be the case with me. When I first went to Khan's practice, it was obvious that he was not nice. He always spoke down to me though he was clearly very nice to my white husband. I'm a South Asian just like Mr. Khan. I felt like he was the type of person who talked down to women of his own color. I was always polite and cooperative, though I'm not a wallflower and was not afraid to speak. I felt as though it was not the expectation. Over time, I was unhappy not only with his snobby, attitude but also became with the quality of care. Some of my cleanings felt below average, and Dr. Khan once suggested veneers for very minor wear on my front teeth, even though no other dentist had ever suggested that and my teeth are healthy and well-aligned. It felt unnecessary. I had already started searching for another dentist in the area. The final issue involved a crown that was bothering me. I mistakenly thought Dr. Khan had worked on that tooth, but later learned my last dentist had handled it. My last dentist kindly fixed the issue at no cost, no questions asked without making me feel uncomfortable. At my next cleaning with Mr. Khan, he seemed upset about the confusion. He was visibly annoyed and spoke more arrogantly than usual. When I tried to explain, he loudly interrupted me and said, "YES, YOU WERE WRONG!" I found that extremely arrogant, unprofessional and inappropriate. I had already decided to stop going to his practice before the incident, but needed to get my retainers redone before I stop going because Mr.Khan already had the mold to my teeth. So, I called to have my retainers remade because the previous ones he made were broken, and I was told Mr. Khan did not want me to return to the practice. I was shocked that a simple misunderstanding about a crown would result in being banned as a patient! No professional should be this sore about something this small. My husband and I were purely going to Mr. Khan's practice because it's so close to home. I'm surprised but all the good reviews here on Google, which makes me wonder if him and his team do everything in their power to get rind of negative reviews. If they try to discredit or get rid of my review, I will continue to leave my rebuttal with the truth.
