Rented a trailer to haul bark today. Opted for the dumper trailer to make unloading easier at $62 for the day. I went all the way to Salem and back. When I started dumping the trailer, it flew off my ball hitch and smashed into my back bumper causing damage to my suv! I allowed them to hook up the trailer, "my fault that I didn't double check their work, I own this part..." Needless to say, the ball hitch collar lock was way too tight. So I had a hell of a time putting the trailer back on the hitch. Then it dawned on me, I drove to Salem and back without the trailer fully hooked into the ball. Wow, this could have been a lot worse then just the damage to my truck! The owner was very apologetic, but dam! I should have gotten half off, or no charge for this at least. I rented an air driven T-post driver from them. I talked to the owner and he told me to try it out and if it didn't work to bring it back and he would only charge me the minimum. He said $20.00. I tried to use it but the generator I had wouldn't run the air compressor so I couldn't use the driver. I took it back and explained what happened to the girl at the counter. Her response was "well the minimum is $50.00" which is what they charge for a day. So, I was out $50.00 for absolutely nothing. I will NEVER go back. read more

Rented a chipper from them. They told me it was temperamental to start but, we got that figured out. However, the chipper was plugged, we spent over an hour cleaning it out, then couldn't get it started again. The knives were dull and I doubt if it would have worked for us anyway. I called and told them the situation and that we had rented a chipper elsewhere. I brought it back that day and was still charged for a full day even though it didn't work at all. They refused to budge, said I had it all day, therefore I had to pay for the day. I have been using them for years because I like to deal locally, but never again, I'll never go back. read more

We rented a camper, went to pick it up and they didn't have the one we had arranged for. The one they had to offer hadn't been prepped for use at all. The inside was dirty, water tanks were empty, the awning had been put away wet and smelled like a dead cat had been rolled up in it, and it turns out the battery was all but completely dead. It took an hour to prep it and hook it up to get off the lot. On the only positive note, the guy who checked me out and did all the prep assured us that our deposit would be fully returned because of the mix-up, and he put an extra battery on it to boot. We drive it to our destination and find out one of the stabilizer jacks is bent 90 degrees so it's completely unusable, unfortunately that's the one we really needed to keep it steady. We turn on the gas, and the pump, everything seems to be in order. Go to bed that night and the original battery is completely toast. No lights, no heat, no water. The next day we hook up the 2nd battery that I was told would "run for 4 days solid". It won't even light up the pump indicator switch it's so dead. It's officially now a very heavy, awkward to park, glorified tent. On the way home from our outing, I notice the person behind me is flashing their headlights so I pull over. In the process, I realize that there is smoke pouring out of the wheel well on one side. Sure enough, it had completely ejected some wheel bearing bits, leaving the tire barely hanging on. We called up Jefferson Rental and they indicated that we should leave it there and they would manage getting it back. So we unpacked the trailer completely, had someone drive an hour to bring a car for us to pack all of our stuff into, and went home. I was later told that as soon as they jacked up the trailer, the wheel fell off completely. When we returned to Jefferson Rental to discuss the previously mentioned return of our complete deposit, in addition to a partial to full refund, the employee I spoke to agreed wholeheartedly, but needed to clear it with his boss. So he calls him on the phone and hands it to me. I give him a synopsis, ask him for a full refund, and he immediately responds: "Well that's not going to happen", then simply argues with me that I don't know how batteries work, that nobody uses stabilizers at all, and that he's never seen a truck flip from throwing a wheel, "things like that just happen, you have to expect it." Not if you maintain it properly! At this point, since I'm being treated like I'm a jerk for thinking I should get some or all of my money back after this complete fiasco, I lose my cool with the guy, and drop an f-bomb in my response: "I'm not going to sit here on the phone and argue with you about how badly this went. How much are you going to take off the #u(%!ng price?" He starts indicating that he's not refunding me at all, and I hang up on him. Now, I know I shouldn't have sworn, but I'm not going to sit there and let somebody dispute my intelligence on battery operation, and insist that a thrown wheel on a trailer isn't dangerous to me and my family, implying that it's my own fault we got a crappy trailer. Through several more attempts, in a calmer dialogue, we got no further. In the last attempt, between my wife and him, he called her ignorant, stupid, a child, and said this was bulls#!t. I guess I opened the door for that last one, but I think name calling is the hallmark of a sad little bully. Their motto is "Our prices will bring you in...our service will bring you back". Don't let the price fool you because that second half is simply not true. I will never go back. read more

I am always pleased with the service. We have rented a tiller for the yard and trailers for various hauling. I was pleased with equipment. It was in good working order and did what I needed to do. They have even helped me with a couple of things that I needed bigger tools for. It's nice to have a place in town to rent from. read more
