Another great store but in a different location. This store is located in a newly developed stripmall near Causeway Blvd. Here I find all the things I need to make for a happy home for my beloved pooch Sunshine. From toys to food to flea protection, this place is like the WalMart for all things pet ownership. The rewards program is totally a plus as most places don't reward you for spending money with them. Friendly staff are on-hand to assist & answer questions as needed. On this particular occasion, after purchasing Sunshine's flea & tick protection, I had questions about the rewards program & how it works. The sales associate was very patient in explaining the ins and outs; she advised of coupons and the like. I felt very informed as I exited. Pricing is fair. Parking is shared and is a bit of a challenge.

The only dog food my spoiled babies eat!

This is a great little Jefferson Feed. PARKING IS USUALLY A SEVERE ISSUE but I don't mind the walk. They always have my spoiled dogs' particular brand of prissy food in stock at great prices! The staff are really nice helpful and patient. Service with a sincere smile... Just sling the 30lbs bag over your shoulder and walk the 1/4 mile or more to your car while dodging insane patrons of this over crowded strip mall with a dangerous lack of parking. How'd this get past the Jefferson Parish planning commission? Psssst.... There's an abandoned parking lot next door to Party City... Be sure to risk your life and everyone else's for a parking space! :)

The cutest dog toys I've seen in a long time!

I went into Jefferson Feed to get something warm to put on my little Morkie Cooper. The two girls were so nice, Clara, and Claire! I found the perfect little shearling coat that is super soft! Well...then I stumbled across the cutest toys for your dog! Hot chocolate, French fries, sushi and a taco. See pics! I ended up getting the French fries and the fries come out and the three sets of fries all squeak and the fries box makes a crinkling noise! Cooper loves it. They were so nice and accommodating and always are at the other locations that I'm really happy to know they're so close! Right next to Trader Joe's on Vets. Next time I'll bring Cooper to pick out his treats!

Stop,my mouth is watering.

From my interactions with the staff, it sounds like they would not have gotten her treated if they found out she was sick at the store. It feels like buying her ended up being kind of a rescue mission, honestly. The staff at 50 fathoms tried to deny that she was even sick, telling me that the vet I went to wasn't good and insisting that I should have gone to a different vet all the way in Baton Rouge. They said the vet was just guessing, but actually the vet did a fecal exam and also sent her blood out to a lab. I know I'm not the ideal pet owner because I'm poor and have an active outdoorsy lifestyle, but I'm doing everything I can to save this bird which is much more than they did. The bird is responding well to treatment and the vet says she has a pretty good chance of survival, but the articles I've read say that the treatment plan involves six weeks of antibiotic injections to prevent the bacterial infection from becoming treatment resistant. That's a lot of vet appointments for an animal I just bought four days ago. Chlamydophilosis is transmittable to humans. While I do recommend buying from a small locally owned business, this one wouldn't be my first choice anymore despite their wonderful selection of exotics, because I don't feel good about their standards for ensuring their animals' health and well being. If you must buy from this store, proceed with caution.

The word that best sums up my visit to Double M is......PUPPIES!!!…read more I stopped in to pick up chow for my big fur baby, and low and behold, what did I find? Bunches of roly, poly, sweet, tail wagging puppies!! And guess what - they're available for snuggling! I jumped right in and scooped up a baby bulldog and got my snuggles in. Oh, the sweet smell of puppy breath, and those tiny feet that smell like Fritos. It brought me back to the days when my girl was an itty bitty. After visiting with a few more tiny bundles of joy I made my way to the food that I came for. The price was competitive and at the checkout counter a really nice guy offered to carry it to my car. Everything about this visit was positive. :)

Was excited to try out a local pet store other than Jefferson Feed as they can be really pricey…read more Unfortunately, they only have one brand of wet food for cats and that's Fussie Cat at 2.99 a can which is more expensive than the 2.5oz cans of Fromm which is considered a luxury brand I get from JF. They have Hill Science Dry food, one higher end brand of dry food, and maybe a handful of other dry food options. I didn't see any cat toys or collars, but I may have missed them. There was litter just not the brands I use which is fine and not why i scored low. For the expansiveness of the store dedicating only a single aisle to cats was super disappointing. As for the animals they have out for sale amongst the aisles like stock... Their conditions are poor and not up to par with what i believe are normal standards for pet stores these days. There was a very sad but sweet black and white cat in a three tiered cage obviously meant for cats. However, there were no toys or any place for the cat to shelter away from customers. The placement of this cage seems strategic from a sales perspective but does not yield any support for the cat as they are completely exposed. I imagine that would make a cat feel anxious. I didn't see any sign to indicate age, sex, or name. I only hope the cat hasn't been in the store for a long time like that. Same goes for the two bunnies they had no shelter just an exposed cage and were huddled up in the far corner. I think the conditions can easily be improved for these animals simply with some items they have in store. Unsure why their wellbeing isn't being prioritized. Owners responses to other reviews tells me they think this isn't a problem, but multiple people have made similar observations. Dry dog food selection seems to have a much larger variety but didn't take a close look at it. They had a variety of bird feeds and a pretty huge stock of shampoos and conditioners and a lot of leashes and collars for dogs. Oddly enough they had a ton of horse related items and live stock. I do think this store has potential as older pictures show it used to be filled with interesting items. It honestly seems like business may be slow for them and that could maybe be bc their hours are very short and most people don't get off work until 5 or 6 and they are closed on Sundays. Generally, I'd like to see the cat section expanded and the conditions of the animals living in the store to improve or just don't sell animals if you aren't going to prioritize their welling while they are in your store.

Natural Pet Care

Natural Pet Care

Today, I had the most unbelievable vet experience. Ever. And I'm so, SO grateful to the person who…read moretold me about this doctor. Her approach is unlike anything I've ever experienced. There are no scary metal examining tables; instead, there's a rug on the floor and a rocking chair. The exam rooms are friendly, comforting, full of toys, and you let your cat(s) (or dog, if you're not a crazy cat lady like me) roam free, which is SO much less stressful than trying to keep them on a table. Less stressful for you AND your pet. Talking with this doctor, I learned a ton about my cat's health, stuff I've never heard from a vet before in my life. Honestly, I wish *I* had healthcare options of this caliber. Natural Pet Care is probably the highest quality healthcare available in New Orleans. Which is kind of sad, but awesome for my cats. As it turns out, my cats don't eat plastic because it is crunchy and it annoys me, but rather because they're missing a nutrient in their diet. There's beef tallow or something in plastic, hence they try to eat it. Now, they're getting fish oil supplements with their food, so the plastic eating should stop. One of my kitties has this chronic cough, and other vets I've taken her to recommend expensive, invasive, traumatizing tests to "rule out" rare diseases such as heartworm and the like. (They're inside cats, it's almost impossible for them to have heartworm.) I was never able to subject my cat to these tests, because other than an occasional coughing spell, she's totally fine. She's happy, she's playful, she's eating and drinking, she shows no outward signs of distress. Now, thanks to my new vet, I've got a homeopathic remedy for her cough, which is the result of allergies. She's simply allergic to dust, and it's exacerbated by the fact that my roommate continues to smoke in the house, even though I've asked him not to. But I digress. Overall, I feel like I'm much better equipped to care for my pets, and I cannot recommend this vet highly enough. Her rates are similar to your normal vet, but the quality of care is far superior.
