John's racing experience and his indomitable and honest belief in the performance-enhancing ability of smart practice and weakness-reducing exercises keep me running strong. Regular massages by John and applying his advice contributed to me running this year my fastest age-graded time in the 400 meter dash, and that was only my first race of the season (June, 2019). John's massage techniques are unique. He diagnoses what ails you with a variety of tests, stares at the anatomical charts on his walls, and patiently massages while providing training tips based on what I tell him. And we also talk about life and have some laughs. I always leave his office feeling more confident and eager to overcome challenges. I left John's office today with a normal-feeling ankle that previously seemed to require a doctor's visit. My steps also felt lighter and more comfortable after intensely racing on Sunday. His work on the psoas area could help athletes and non-athletes. As he says, tight hips plague many of us because of all the sitting we do. I am no physician but my guess is John has kept people from needing surgery. He fixes the root cause of one's musculoskeletal maladies so we can keep doing what we love.

Larry is a certified advanced Rolfer from Colorado. He's a talented, caring professional who is…read morevery knowledgeable about the body and what makes it "tick". I originally found out about Rolfing, or structural integration, when looking for a massage therapist to help me with a recurring arm and wrist injury. Instead, I found something even better! Rolfing is a form of bodywork that strives to improve the body's posture and alignment. This can allow for releasing of chronic tension and improvement of physical activity -- everything from standing and walking all the way to intense physical activities! His clientele range from young, 20-somethings (me!) all the way to people in their 80s and serious athletes. Rolfing works systematically to release the fascia that connects muscle to the bone, allowing for reduction of constriction and increased energy. I would read his site (and many others) for additional information, their documents say it better than I can! One of the things I love about Rolfing is that the process is ongoing, and your body "remembers" the changes. Instead of a massage where the effects last for a few hours or a day, Rolfing is an ongoing shift in my body and how it responds to stress and gravity, and many Rolfers report continued changes and shifts even after the series of treatments. Although I was initially hesitant to see a male practitioner, Larry has been nothing but kind, professional, and pleasant. He is great at random chit-chatting or answering my specific questions about the treatment going on that day. Rolfing has a reputation of being potentially painful, and although it isn't relaxing like a typical massage (I am actively participating mentally and physically in releasing the fascia) and is occasionally uncomfortable, Larry is very cognizant and only works within the boundaries that you set for physical discomfort. In addition, I often find myself incredibly relaxed after the session, after releasing pockets of tension I didn't even know I held in my body. He and his partner, Bethany Ward, work out of their home studio (their treatment rooms are separate), in a pleasant, professional, relaxed environment, and I look forward to every appointment. I am so thankful I've found Rolfing and look forward to completing my 10 series this summer! I've already experienced better posture, reduced pain, and reduced tension. Fantastic all around. I highly recommend looking at his website and also scheduling a first visit to see if Rolfing is for you -- and honestly, if use your body or live in a place with gravity, you can benefit from it! :)

Even though I've exercised regularly for years, I've never felt I was doing the right exercises or that I was doing them properly. Many times. I thought about getting a personal trainer but never took the step. With the upcoming surgery, my husband decided to take that step for me and after research and reading reviews he contacted Allen Johnson at Within Wellness. My husband's questions to Allen were (1) whether he had experience working with clients who are older (age 70), (2) have knee or joint issues and (3) possible in-home training (we have a few pieces of exercise equipment in our home). Allen said "Yes" to everything and several sessions later I can say I am 100+% happy with the training path Allen has me on. The first session was an evaluation of my current physical status. From there Allen started building an approach for meeting my goals. He thoughtfully plans every session to be challenging while building on the familiar. He is encouraging, always pointing to progress made even if it doesn't feel like it. I must say, too, that workout safety is his #1 priority. With each exercise, he gives his full attention to making certain I'm doing each exercise properly and that the environment is safe. (Sometimes we have to wipe the floor because I perspire heavily while exercising and, as he pointed out, drips on the wood floor can be dangerous.) I highly recommend Allen at Within Wellness. He is personable, knowledgeable about all aspects of his job, makes workouts fun and, best of all, I trust that my needs and progress are foremost for him in each and every workout session. My husband gave me a great gift when he made that phone call to Within Wellness. I feel I'm finally in the exercise program I've needed for years.

My whole body is more limber and more fluid than it's been in years. Not going to lie though--there were times when I wanted to laugh because it was a little ticklish and cry because it was so painful. Think the toughest parts of a foam rolling routine but for an entire session. A few times I asked for modifications and he quickly obliged. So I totally know that I could've avoided any pain altogether but it was the type of hurt where you just know is doing the body good. And as I type this, I'm grateful I stuck through it.
