Why do I send my video transfers 1,400 miles in central Illinois? Because, simply put, nobody does…read moreit better. Here's my story: Starting back in the late '90s, I started on a search for someone to transfer my father's helical scan tapes. For those who don't know about helical scan (which is many!), it was a technology from Sony that only had about a 5-year run in the 1970s(!). There in Washington state, I went from store to store from Bellingham to South Tacoma asking video transfer service after video transfer service if they could do it ... most didn't even know what they were looking at. I called up universities across the county - those that had helical scan technology - and none of them knew how to actually transfer them. I worked in a communications office with a video transferrer and editor, and even he couldn't crack it. The years went on ... I googled "helical scan transfer", but nothing doing. Until 2016. There was Green Tree. I couldn't believe it. I waited with bated breath, and Andy (the owner and main transferrer) quickly converted the helical scan tapes. What came back were high-quality transfers on DVD. He also transferred the files onto an external drive, so I can modify the files. Some of my original tapes were damaged by 45 years of wear-and-tear, but Andy made look the transfers look as good as new. I was so happy with the work that I sent him my camcorder tapes (8 mm, which almost all transfer businesses can do). While I could have gotten it done anywhere in town, I wanted my work done by a true videographer. Andy always provides me with amazing transfers!
