What a journey this has been. I recently moved to TX from PA and was looking for a salon to get my…read morehair cut. Found this page on Yelp and between the reviews and photos, I decided to call Lisa for an appointment. I should have known immediately there was something up when she asked me for a deposit. I have never been to a quality salon where I need to pay a deposit for my services. I shrugged it off and moved forward. When I finally got to her salon, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. Mind you where I come from - This is not a salon, this is like an studio where one person works. I even told her "I feel like I'm at my girl friends getting my hair done." She asked a few questions about my hair goals and took a few pictures of my 'before' look. I showed her a couple inspo-photos - one for cut, one for color. She decided to cut my hair before applying lightener which was another "huh?" moment but decided to just go with it.. after all.. shes supposed to be the professional right? Her first cut is literally where we agreed my length would be. Needless to say when she started cutting, it was A LOT shorter than we agreed on. I'm very easy going and I can totally rock a short 'do BUT this is still not what we discussed. She explained that she wouldn't be able to acheive the color I was looking for in one session, but the color wasn't even what she told me it would be. She advised against my request for highlights and suggested a balayage which I went with buuut... I'm 95% sure I still got highlights. Color, toner, cut. After all was said and done, I paid $400. Got home and my hair was not even, so I text Lisa and set up to come back in to fix my cut. She asked me to straighten my hair before I go for a dry cut.. Why I need to do my hair before a hair appointment is beyond me. I thought that's what all the tools were for in the studio. Silly me. We discussed how unhappy I was with the results and she just offered more services. Why would I want to return for more services if you are unable to execute the first one? Anyway, I guess she tried to fix my hair but ultimately she just made it worse. I reached my limit when she cut my hair without a cape on. How can you charge someone hundreds of dollars per visit then let them walk out with hair all over them???? Oh by the way, don't book your next appointment in advanced unless you're sure you want to trust her with your hair. Apparently that $50 deposit is non-refundable but you wont know that unless you visit her website. Which is conveniently not listed on Yelp.

After some thought, I decided I wasn't quite ready to give them up and began researching stylists who specialized in extensions. Irina at Mane Hair Extensions & Therapy was one of the professionals who responded to my inquiry, and I booked a consultation with her as well as a couple of other stylists. Irina was my first appointment, and I immediately felt comfortable with her. She was incredibly professional, friendly, and answered all of my questions thoroughly, putting my concerns to rest. After my consultation, I had my last appointment with my previous stylist to remove my wefts. The next day, I had my first session with Irina for ice bond extensions. When she installed them, I was amazed at how light they felt. Unlike my wefts, which always felt tight after getting lifted, these extensions were so comfortable I couldn't even feel them. My hair is super fine and thin, and the high-quality extensions she uses match my texture almost perfectly. The bonds are completely invisible, even with my thin hair--you can't even see them! I'm beyond thrilled with my first set of ice bond extensions and so glad I decided to try them. If you're looking for a professional stylist who can provide invisible, lightweight extensions, I highly recommend Irina at Mane Hair Extensions & Therapy.

With my grey "roots" and different tones of reds and brown Ive drenched my head with, I was a mess. I went and saw Brittany, she sat with me and asked what I wanted, then she told me what could be done. She lifted the dyed colors I had and blended the grey that was already there. It came out fantastic, my hair is now back to its natural color, it hadn't been that in over 30 years, and now with my hair slowly turning grey it will look more natural. Thank you Brittany

During that first visit, Megan was highlighting my hair and, because I swim a lot, there was a reaction. It took some extra care, but she made it work. The end result looked amazing, and I left very happy. Because of that great result, I trusted the salon and booked another appointment by phone several days in advance. The receptionist pulled up my profile and scheduled me with Joselyn. Joselyn was aware of my previous visit and even brought up the last incident herself. I explained that I hadn't been swimming for about three weeks, so my hair wasn't freshly exposed to saltwater. We discussed what I wanted for at least ten minutes, and she even mentioned doing a test strand -- which I thought was a great, professional idea. Then she left to grab the color and came back saying she would not work on my hair at all. "Saltwater exposure and dead ends." Seriously? "Summer time!" That's not a reason to refuse a loyal, paying customer. Everything from my last appointment with Megan was right there in their notes, so they knew exactly what to expect. Yet I was still turned away -- not even offered a haircut or an alternative. When I asked if someone else could at least give me a trim, she said, "We're pretty light today." I walked in expecting professional service and walked out ten minutes later completely refused w/ nothing. I'm beyond disappointed. If you advertise yourself as a color salon, you should be confident enough to handle color -- not back out of it after an appointment is already booked. This is supposed to be a professional salon, yet they couldn't handle a standard client request. I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly insulted. If a loyal, respectful customer can be refused like that, something's seriously wrong with how they're doing business -- and who they're hiring

And many hairdressers have turned my hair down in fear of failure. I have very thick, nappy, naturally dark and EXTREMELY curly hair. But I dye my hair red not the natural orange-y red but FIRE TRUCK red. It requires tons of maintenance which also could be damaging. But basel knows exactly how to do my hair and offers top of the line products to upkeep my color and give my hair life again. I see basel about every 6 weeks for a touch-up. For someone who is dying her hair 11-13 times a year you would never believe it! I have silky, smooth and vibrant hair! I love the shampoo and flat iron which I purchase from his salon. Ive had a few Brazilian blowouts which were amazing. I recently had a keratherapy treatment (I think that's the name). The treatment left my naps smooth and gives this endless shine. He has this exceptional knowledge of how to properly achieve anything I'm looking for safely without damaging my hair. He is generally pretty flexible with scheduling my appointments. If he's booked he will always find a way to fit me in. I have been to many salons and paid hundreds and hundreds all around town (corporations & mom and pop shops) I think the price is fair. For those who may think it's high go check a tgf salon for their outrageous corporate fee schedule based on length (only to get an inexperienced hair dresser) Just like anything else in life you get exactly what you pay for. The quality of his work and products are exceptional!
