Poor customer service I voiced that I wasn't happy with part of my driveway that JDM did. The filler between the expansion joints looked sloppy and like it was done in a hurry. The expansion joints were also almost 2 inches in some parts. When I expressed my concerns and asked that at least the filler be redone I was told they would rip up the filler but would not replace it. I had told them that was fine but repeated I wanted the filler gone. The owner said they would be out in a week to do that. It's been 3 weeks and the sloppy work is still there. Let me get this straight. You show up at the time you promise to give the estimate. You provide a detailed estimate and answer all of my questions. You then contact me a week before you are going to begin work to confirm. ...and then you show up on the day you promise, complete the work in the time promised, and even at the price quoted?!?!?! They didn't get the order correct: they used the wrong color to color the newly poured concrete, so they had to paint over the concrete surface; a large crack showed up less than a year of the finished job and I had a hard time making they come back to repair it; they were always late; owners kind of rude. Asked for references and went to see two of their jobs: the jobs were done at the homes of their families members! Many etc...Job done years ago. read more

My family and friends know that I'm pretty easy going. I typically do not complain unless something is really bad. Well here goes... We hired JDM Concrete, LLC out of Solon to do concrete work in Iowa City during October, 2017. Over a month ago, in May 2018, I contacted them about our concrete having cracks all over it. Upon physically examining the concrete for warranty, Danelle first said "they should have cut the concrete here" and pointed to a large concrete slab sitting area which now has a crack through the entire slab. This slab wasn't even one that has been driven on. She then implied that we used salt on the concrete after I told her we did not. They will not stand behind their one year warranty. They want to seal the cracks. I have attempted to discuss this further with them and they will not return my calls or e-mail messages. I now have to work with my attorney to resolve this. I have had lots of concrete projects and I have never experienced this cracking all over the concrete. They won't stand behind their work. Had I known this, I never would have hired them. This is my warning to you. Do not do business with them unless you want faulty concrete and even worse customer support after the sale. It is sad we have to give them a star, they screwed up our whole project. I don't feel like writing a novel, but lack of communication between Danelle and workers. Screw up after screw up, we did not get what we wanted or quality work. If you have a section of side wall the city wants you to replace I might use them. Hire at your own risk. read more

On Sept 8, 2020, we entered a contract with JDM to redo our driveway. At the time the bid was presented (Sept 2), we were told the work would be completed at the end of Sept or beginning of Oct (4-6 weeks out). We paid the required 10% deposit (over $1200) and then kept checking on the start date because we were waiting to put our house on the market. JDM pushed back their work to mid-Oct, then late Oct, and then early Nov. When we complained, JDM said there were delays due to the derecho and rain. The derecho occurred one month before we entered into the contract (Aug 10), and the rain was occurring the week we were presented with and entered the contract. When it snowed in mid-Oct, we raised a concern about the structural integrity of the concrete when poured in bad weather. JDM said it was fine. When we explained that we had been waiting to put our house on the market and this timeline was not what we agreed to when entering the contract, JDM said they were booking 10-12 weeks out at the time we contracted. This conveniently coincided with the current timeline, but not what we had been told. We would not have agreed in Sept to a timeline that put the concrete pour in late Nov/early Dec. We asked for our deposit back and were told it was nonrefundable. We asked JDM under what circumstances they gave customers a recourse for failure on their part to fulfill the contract. They said they intended to fulfill it in November. I asked to review the contract again and only then discovered that, if they proceed with the work in bad weather, that we would be charged more for "winter charges" (e.g., hot water, calcium, coverings). This was never brought up when JDM was dismissing our concerns about the structural integrity of a pour in bad weather. The contract further stipulates that choosing to delay until spring, rather than paying the "winter charges," would require us to pay 50% of the remaining charge (about $6000) or forfeit our deposit. Of course, there is no guarantee that they will actually complete the work in the spring, so that would just mean more money they get to keep for failing to complete the work in the timeline originally agreed upon. We now will lose money on our home sale as well. Essentially, the company entered the contract under false pretenses and will only consider honoring it by extorting additional funds from us. They bear no sense of responsibility for fulfilling the contract within a reasonable time period as agreed upon, and they leave no means of recuperating a significant investment of funds that they view as potentially holding your place in a hidden timeline. read more

They did not do the work outlined on their proposal, they did not do the work properly (I have obtained expert opinions), they damaged my property and they billed at the rate of about $500/hour. read more

We hired JDM concrete to repair our sidewalks as per the city's request. September has been a rainy month, so there were some delays- as to be expected. The first day they came to the house and started tearing up concrete, they did not ring the bell/ knock on the door to see if anyone was home to be sure we were out of the driveway. Luckily we were not home otherwise, we would not have been able to get our vehicles out of the driveway. Had we received a call to let us know what day they were coming out, we would have been fully aware. After tearing out the concrete, they left 2- 20 foot mangled rebar between the sidewalk and road, where people could walk by and potentially get hurt. We moved the rebar further into our yard so that would not happen. We contacted the company who said they would pick them up. It took 8 days for them to pick up the rebar. When they finally picked up the rebar- they put in sealant that was missed before. They have a part of the bid where they could come and fix your yard for an additional $200 after they destroyed it. I declined, thinking that it wouldn't be as bad as it was. There are HUGE divots in the lawn and chunks of concrete laying all through the grass. I have neighbors who asked what company we chose so they could choose someone else. They were shocked and even brought up the fact that they did not ensure anyone was home. To say I am not pleased with their service is an understatement. read more
