Best conventional, in-network dentist I've ever been to! Super knowledgeable, kind, and pleasant. He was able to offer a quality of care and empathy I was unable to find in other Ventura dentists. I used to go to a biological dentist and then financially needed to switch to one who would directly bill my insurance. I was really happy with the cost and the quality of care. I didn't even feel like I was sacrificing anything. Dr. Ross was very knowledgeable and understanding about holistic lifestyles and concerns I had, which I deeply appreciated. He presented me with multiple options to choose from and shared the pros and cons of each. He was also the only dentist I found in the area who was willing to clean my teeth without X-rays during pregnancy. Then we scheduled the X-rays and other work postpartum, and everything worked out great. Clean office. Not that it matters, but the decorations are great and it's a peaceful atmosphere. I have PTSD from visiting this dentist. It's been 2 years since I saw him and I can't get myself to go and see another dentist. That's how traumatized I am. I visited him as a recommendation I received. He is a super cool and chill guy. This is just my experience on the procedure I got. I went in because I was having some tooth pain on my left bottom molar. He checked me out tried to fix it but turned out I actually needed a root canal. He isn't able to do those so he referred me to a friend. I visited the other dentist and he completed my root canal and that experience was a nightmare I felt EVERYTHING. I cried from the pain. My follow up Appointment was with Ross he ordered and completed my crown. The temporary crown fell and it cut me pretty bad. I called his receptionist and explained my situation in which she proceeded to tell me that there were no openings and she scheduled me for a week out. When I was finally seen by dr Ross my gum had been cut by the temporary crown and the gum now overlapped my tooth. Dr Ross apologized for not seeing me same day when the incident happened (I'm pretty sure he had a talk with his staff because next visit I didn't see her anymore) When he was cleaning the area he wasn't gentle at all and I had trouble keeping my mouth open and that's when he became rude about it. I got a mouth piece to help me keep my mouth open but it was in so much pain from bleeding and having my gums cut for a whole week. He reapplied the temporary crown and in return gave me a free toothpaste. I went back following a few weeks later for the permanent crown and I explained to him that the gums that got cut from the temporary crown is now hurting my tooth because it's extra skin. He told me he couldn't do anything because he doesn't have a machine to cut the gums. When the permanent tooth got glued on it hurt really bad, it wasn't properly numbed and I had to go back a 2nd time because it wasn't done properly which caused more trauma to my tooth. Finally I went back for my final visit and he put the tooth on without cleaning the area Around it. I asked if he should have cleaned the tooth area to ensure there's no bacteria around that could get inside and root the gums. He said no. 2 years later I still have pain on that tooth. I feel like something is inside eating my gums. The skin behind my tooth bleeds every time I brush my teeth and floss. I honestly cry every so often because of how much it hurts. I've scheduled dentist appointments with other dentists for follow ups but when I get there I get anxiety and I can't sit to be seen. I am truly traumatized from this horrible experience. I was in Ventura at a meeting and broke a tooth. I didn't know any dentists here and saw who my dental insurance would cover (Delta Dental). First place called required a full set of dental x rays, exam, and 2nd appointment before they would see me - in my business (MD), we call this a wallet biopsy. Dr. Ross' office staff was pleasant, understanding, and made the appointment for the next day - and promised they would call me if anything came up sooner. At time of the appointment - no waiting - I was ushered in, had an x-ray and saw Dr. Ross promptly. He explained the problem, the potential solutions, and what he would do if I lived in town. He also explained other ways my tooth could be fixed - crown versus inlay - but outlined why he preferred an inlay. Even though he wasn't going to treat me, he took the time to show me some pictures on his computer monitor what it would look like. Since I was leaving in a few days, he did a temporary repair (resin), sent me my x rays by email to relay to my dentist at home, and sent me on my way. Whole process was under an hour. Dr. Ross was pleasant and professional. The office itself is recently opened, modern, and welcoming. Front office person (Nancy) was warm and friendly. Certainly, if I lived in Ventura, he would be my dentist. read more

After taking a ton of x-rays, I had a very expensive dentist (Dr Sugar, Oxnard) tell me that my sore gum was simply from not flossing and I just needed a deep cleaning. She was outrageously expensive so I went to another dentist who also took x-rays and told me I had a "cracked root" and the tooth needed to come out. Not knowing who to believe, I went to my mom's dentist, Dr. Ross, to get a third opinion. His staff worked me in on short notice, he took a couple of x-rays and did an oral examination, took his time, answered all of my questions and didn't charge me for any of it. It turned out that his x-rays were inconclusive (as all the others had been) so he suggested I get a CT scan, and referred me to an Ododontist, who I saw later that day. This uncovered a rare scenario x-rays could not pick it up. Both the other dentists had been wrong but insisted they were right. I appreciate that Dr. Ross got me the RIGHT answer. I think his rates are also lower than the other dentists I saw. He has an immaculate and bright office and down-to-earth happy staff. read more

Dr. Ross took time he didn't charge me for to go over all the options of what I could do to help my occlusion and bite. He really thinks of a lot of options and explains clearly the benefits and drawbacks of each. He returned a crown to the lab that I would not have known was problematic but would have failed after a year or so. (not because the lab is bad,- it is just a type of ceramic crown over a ceramic implant that they haven't dealt with in the past) I was ready to get 2 additional crowns, (beyond the initial 3) and was going to figure out how to pay for 5 crowns at a time to help my bite, and he just spent some time talking me out of those 2, since it wouldn't help my bite so much. So he spent his time talking me out of giving him more money. He is sharper, more caring, more honest and less greedy than most dentists and I am glad I found him. read more

Dr. Ross did an amazing job on my implant. For years I've worn a flipper and been advised against getting an implant placed because no one had the technology to place a small enough implant. I've been told I need to get braces a second time to fix things before I get an implant, or that I'd need a bone graft. Dr. Ross referred me to a wonderful periodontist who had the technology and experience to place an implant safely and securely with no braces or bone grafting necessary. We have been going here for about 5 years. The previous dentist retired and turned his business over to Jay Ross. I cannot say enough good things about this dentist and his staff. Here is what I like: 1. If you have an appointment with them, you will pretty much always get seen right on time. There is almost zero waiting. 2. If you make an advance appointment (like 6 months out) they will not only send you a card to remind you, but they will also call you the day before. 3. Speaking of calling, if you are putting off some dental procedure because you cannot figure out your schedule (or maybe you just don't want to do it)-they will call you every time an opening comes up and give you the chance to take care of it before it becomes an even bigger problem. 4. The Dentist and the staff really listen to you. They don't use dangerous mercury amalgams (or at least I don't think they do) and they did not poo-poo my concerns about them for my child. They also don't give you some big lecture about how you should just do what they tell you to (I have had dentists that did that in the past, and it always cost me a bunch of money I didn't want to spend along with the actual unpleasant procedure that may or may not have been unnecessary) 5. They don't make up a giant expensive list of things that you need done. In fact, I trust them enough to believe that if they recommend something be done, it is because you really need it and not just to make some money. 6. They take my insurance (Met Life) which means that most of the time I do not have to pay one penny out of my own pocket. If you are looking for a great dentist that will really listen to you-take good care of your teeth, a pleasant staff and who is not looking to nickle and dime you, I think this should be your place. read more
