Their shoe section has decreased over the years, and they've gotten a large quantity of high-end brands like Kate Spade, Trina Turk, and Diane von Furstenberg. Some of the pieces in their store are amazing, some leave me scratching my head wondering who is going to buy a $3,000 fur vest in South Texas. As of now, their pickings are slim, but their Brighton section still is top notch and they have a good selection of moderately priced blouses at Unique's. Currently, they have a huge clearance section with stuff marked between 30% - 75% off. Their shoe section is also dwindling down - I believe they're planning on renovating parts of the store and are getting rid of their old wades. Unique's has some new Kate Spade school supplies for those wanting to start their back-to-school shopping. Overall, Sylvia's & Unique's are still two must-go places to shop in McAllen.

Evidenced in the new Premium Outlet mall in Mercedes, I could not help stopping on my way back to McAllen airport. Like a magnet, the car just gravitated toward the Cole Haan, where I bought my (wait for it) 60th pair of shoes. I am truly the Jerry Seinfeld of dress shoes - tons of them, Kramer always stopping by to bring them to Mom and Pop to get detailed. At this location, found what my colleagues long for in their holiday stockings: wristlets. They are the new fem wallet. Store wide sale provides them at 40% off. On the clearance rack at 30% off AND THEN 40% off, I found a perfect fitting mahogany dress shoe. Smooth, sleek, and stylish, I wore them to work yesterday and was met with man compliments. The manager on duty was a kick. She was most helpful and very easy going. Has the normal bakery, deli and meat and seafood area. Pretty nice and helpful employees. They always seem to have a manager making sure that the lines aren't too long.
