Honestly, I can't remember the last time I was in a department store, and the reason wasn't just to pass through. This review is specifically for the photo department. My mom is a major lover of nostalgia and so I booked a photo shoot at JCPenney for her birthday. We threw on our matching pajamas and headed over to Westfarms for our 2:30 appointment. The photographers were very delayed so unfortunately we weren't seen until 4:15. Our photographer was so nice and really helped bring my mom out of her shell. The entire shoot took about 15 minutes and we were able to select as many printed frames as we wanted. Thankfully, they were having a sale because the original price for the photos and shoot came out to about $210. After the discount code was applied the total was only $40. This was a cute way to celebrate my mom and throw it back to all of the photo shoot she used to make me do when I was young. read more

Nobody at any registers, managers that are incompetent boobs, escalators never work stuff thrown around like it's a ghetto Walmart...... this is the anchor stor at one of the more high end malls in the state. If I could give a zero, I would. Yesterday, July 12th, I had an app at 12:00 pm, in which I showed the colors I wanted for highlights and a photo of the color I DIDN'T WANT. Besides taking over two hours to do the highlights, the hairstylist gave me the color I didn't want, which was a white color. I showed her the color again, and she told me the color I wanted had more than one color. That's not the problem since I'm paying... then she added another color, which was orange in the top and white, for the middle of my head down. In the end, I paid $177 for a horrible color. I left with my hair wet because I was so scared what she can do more. She added the Oaplex products I didn't order when I made my app. In the end, I had to spend an extra $30 to get a decent color in CVS. Would have been better for her to tell me that I didn't know how to do the job than to waste my time, since in the end I was there for 4 hours for HORRIBLE HAIR. read more

This place is an absolute MESS! Holy cow! They must be cutting costs by eliminating employees that keep the merchandise and dressing rooms tidy. Went looking for dress clothes for my son's band concert and was shocked by the state of the clothes. There were clothes strewn all over the place, empty hangers on the racks, clothes on the floor, mismatched hanger sizes, carelessly hung clothes, etc. All of which made finding the sizes we needed an absolute pain in the behind! The socks, shoes, and accessories were also destroyed. The employee that checked us out was very helpful and friendly. She gave us some coupons since we didn't have any (maybe this is why they have to cut costs). Overall terrible experience up until the checkout process. This store needs HELP!!! read more

I took pictures back on November 28 to ensure that my Christmas photos would be delivered on time. I was told they take 2 weeks to come in- which was perfect since I had 4 until Christmas. I had called 3 times for a person to finally tell me my "package hasn't moved in 8 days so we'll declare it lost and send you new ones". I asked him if I would get these on time for Christmas but he told me he didn't know because "shipping was out of his hands". He did say that he expedited the processing but couldn't do anything to ship it faster. I am extremely disappointed. I wish I could give ZERO STARS. I accidentally scheduled for JCPenny Portraits studio at P495 Westfarms Mall instead of the P418 Trumbull location. This error caused my family much frustration and confusion but we decided to drive from our home to the Hartford area which is approximately 45 minutes drive. Due to distance learning and other issues we cancelled our 2pm appointment and rescheduled for 5pm. We really eager, excited and wanted to get our photos done and didn't mind the trip as my parents, grandparents, cousins and extended family always used JCPenny photo studies since I was a child. We arrived at 5:05pm and met Jelisa the assistant manager of the site, she made us feel welcomed and even opted to take photos of our three children individually with the family package deal we opted for. Our children are age 6,4, and 1. We were informed to use the family dressing room, picked out a background and told that after we changed we would be photographed. At 5:10pm after getting dressed we were then immediately told that we cannot take the photos , our session was cancelled because "you took too long and because of COVID-19 I don't have time". I explained to Jelisa that we traveled 45 min with three children, battled through traffic, still arrived on time and I wouldn't mind if she would have informed me of this before heading to the dressing room. She became irate, irritable and frustrated, Jelisa was condescending rude and baligerant stating "I am the assistant manger and this is my decision so you have to rebook that's all you can do I have other customers and it will be 5:30 your session is over". I continued to explain to her that we would even consider waiting until the last customer to do our shoot even if she would take our one year olds pictures as his birthday was April 11, 2019 and due to COVID-19 we had to wait until this time. To say the least I was in tears, extremely emotional and very surprised as to why she did not forewarn us about this issue before getting dressed. In my sorrow I asked to speak with the store supervisor (Amanda) who was rude, also agitated and frustrated as I was explaining the situation. She proceeded to speak with Jelisa in Spanish for two minutes then proceeded to explain the photo policies and how there was nothing she could do for us and "this is the rule you cannot get it done". As I proceeded to explain to her about our 45 minute drive , lack of communication she immediately silenced my request by staying "policy is policy and there is nothing I can do". I am a 35 year old, nurse, mother and biggest customer of JCPenny and JCPenny studios. I am appalled by the lack of respect for customers and professionalism. The actions of the team was distasteful and classless for a company I held in high regard. I honestly need answersas even emailed corporate about this. I honestly do not believe that this was the first time anything like this has happened and Jelisa's comfortability and ego driven approach has gone unreported for far too long. Amanda the manager lack of enthusiasm for her job and frustrations was displaced on me (the customer). To have this occur in front of our children was very tastless and repulsive. read more

The holidays are coming up so the store is full of special sales and Christmas cheer. The only thing I don't like is that the store is pretty messy right now. Not horribly but enough where it's noticeable. read more

In some ways, the "Newly Inspired JCP" is very nice. There is quite some sense to their new pricing scheme, in which every item has a very good "every day price," rather than artificially high retail prices that are slashed by a certain percentage. Visit Bob's Stores or Macy's if you want to play that game... But fear not, there are some sale and clearance items too. These items are marked in dark blue with a "best price," significantly lower than the every day price. Sales last for the entire calendar month, so it may be best to visit JCP as close to the 1st of the month as possible. Today, the knowledgable [though sparsely populated] workforce helped me pick out a few nice things, and even lowered the price of one of my ties to match the price of the other, making them $12 each. I also got a smashing deal on a Stafford shirt and tie set for only $14. That's a "best price" for sure, which will last all of June. Here's the problem: Because JCP has done away with deep discounting, special events, coupons, and reduced the number of sale items, they have most definitely alienated their most loyal customers, who get a certain thrill from the aforementioned schemes... Also, from a personal perspective, I often find myself looking at that every day price and saying, "Gee, that's a good price, but I think I can do better." Was there the other day waiting for a friend to get a hair cut as I wonder the store ..decided to buy some items...when I was ready to checkout I stood on the wrong side of the counter...the employee a VERY RUDE GUY..basically bark orders and gave me a nasty look...told me I was on the wrong side...when he start3d to ring my items ..I said to him that that item was on the 50 percent discount and he basically argue with me ..i asked for his name and he refused to tell me his name...and then he added that I need to leave the store..I CANT BELIEVE THAT JC PENNEY ALLOW EMPLOYEES TO TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS IN SUCH A BAD WAY....he basically said that he will not give me his name...well in the receipt shows the employee ID...went and talked to a on call manager and he I guess talk to him...but bottom line JC PENNEY needs to improve in customer service BIG TIME..all those employees that they hire have a chip on their shoulders and they feel entitle to treat customers like crap. I wish I could give them a minus 10. I will not recommend this store to anyone...not even to my worst enemy. read more

This place used to be respectable, just a little over a year ago. I've been about 4 times over the past few months and can definitely say that this place is a huge mess. The big and tall section looks like the floor of the goodwill, you cannot find any sizes, and even things like underwear packages are open and strewn about the floor. Last time I went, I tried to buy boxers, and while in line, I realized someone had previously opened the plastic and replaced half the contents with a different size. Speaking of lines, there are plenty of them; rivaling some of the longest rides at Disney. If you need help, you'd be better off calling the store. read more

I absolutely love this store! Not only are the associates helpful and friendly, but they have everything I need. Definitely a one-stop shop! I especially enjoyed the fine jewelry department. One of the lovely ladies at the counter offered me a 40% coupon on top of the already reduced gold necklace I was eyeing. It was crazy- I actually spent $79 for a chain that was originally $849.99! It's been a while since I've had an awful service like this anywhere. I hate writing bad reviews but because this service isn't cheap buyers should be aware of what to expect at this jcpenny Portraits studio. It seemed like a good idea to get a more affordable christmas portrait done with the family this year so I opted to make an appointment at this location for 2:10pm. Of course like any other busy mall studio I expected that it may run late. At 3:05 .. yes that's rigth about an hour later our name was finally called. An overworked stressed out employee who has been running passed us back and fort for the past hour, clearly trying to make up time has called us in. As into a makeshift studio set up next to the hallway that was set up between the winter coat racks. Broken furniture, props falling apart, one of the swivel chairs we were forced to sit on was broken. So thats the first impression as the photographer rushes us to sit the kids on a mini sofa that is falling apart. She began to snap pictures immidiately, naturally without proper stimulation my toddlers were not looking at her or the direction of the camera or smiling as they are distracted by the madness. (Imagine you are in a loud hallway with strangers staring at you waiting) The photographer not listening to a word I'm saying, not answering any questions. It was very clear she was tired, cranky probably haven't had a break in hours and through the 5 minute appointment she rushed us through she had an attitude the entire time. As we get behind the lense to get our picture taken with our children she took one last shot of my daughter's tutu and said "Ok, u are all done". My husband and I looked at each other confused and asked why she isn't taking any pictures with us and our children together, as upon check in we were asked the different types of shots we were looking to get and obviously that's why people come to take a Christmas portrait together as a family. Her response was that we only get so many shots and frames and that's just a way it is (insert eye roll and attitude). Kind of taken back I gathered my kids and walked back to the register to pay and to possibly make another appointment one perhaps we as parents can also be in. I explained to the manager that this is all very strange and we have never experienced such an unprofessional and rushed service. She began to explain how we have to be more specific next time with what are needs are. I personally don't know any other terminology to say I'd like a family picture as in one with me and my husband in it along with the children. The manager try to explain to me the way "they do things here and how I'd have to ask. I don't think she realized how demeaning and assuming she really was. After expressing to her that we are unhappy with how all this went down and I need an additional 5 minutes of the studios time so I can get some shots with us in the picture, she brought us back to take some pictures with my husband and I in it. By this point we are sweating and uncomfortable trying to get the kids to cooperate for the second time to take some pictures. I was directed to sit on the broken swivel chair trying to balance and not fall off while having my child in my lap. as you can imagine smiling at this point is hard and not just for our kids. At 3:55 I'm finally called over to review the pictures on the computer. I kid you not 99% is total garbage. Lighting is off some pictures are dark, all group pictures have a shadow on our left side some shots my oldest daughter is barely visible due to this. The girls naturally having been rushed through are awkward and have the look of confusion. My face obviously has the look of "please don't let this broken chair have me fall while I'm holding my baby". Sitting fee charge and digital file for the 3 not completely awful pictures over a 140$. Dirty looks from original photographer and attitude from staff as I swipe my card, priceless. Overall I'd like to say you get what you pay for but a 140 for an over 2 hours of aggravation was an overpriced experience to endure. read more

I truly had a wonderful shopping experience today at JcPenney, West Farms Mall. In bedding and linen, I met the most attentive associate by the name of Tiesha. She was extremely knowledgeable about product and has terrific taste. To add to an already amazing experience, the cashier, named Destiny was very professional and pleasant. I'm a fan of a lot of the products, but there always seems to be some difficulty that makes shopping here frustrating, whether it's their website information being incorrect, or them having part of a matching set only available online and other part only available in-store (yep, that just happened to me), or the prices not being consistent (ad says on sale for 49.99, originally 99.99, but the online price says originally 85.00 and the sticker on the item itself says originally 75.00). My most recent trip in-store was rather tedious. The systems crashed while I was trying to check out. I understand this is not the cashier's fault, but add that fifteen minute delay to the fact that the cashier was incredibly slow-moving, and it made for a tortuous experience. A second cashier, David maybe?, was running around a bit faster and trying to help people. An associate from a different department, catalog I believe, had been asked for help by another customer who was waiting and she told them it wasn't her department and she had to get back to hers. David had run out to load merchandise for a customer and came back in to help the other waiting guests with the issue that the catalog woman had left them with, and Dana, our rather slow cashier, asked him if he'd been on break, and started complaining about how her break was very overdue. She was polite to us, just very slow and obviously inexperienced in customer service (you shouldn't be leaning all over the counters and moaning about your break while your associate is working hard to help customers much faster) and came across as unhappy with her job and a bit lazy. read more

Used to love to shop at JCP but they changed the Big and Tall shirts for men's from St Johns Bay to Foundry Big and Tall and now shirts that were $20 are $40. When I go in there, I go to purchase as I need then, not going to wait for a sale or coupon. read more

I visited the store twice to purchase furniture. First visit; waited an hour and fifteen minutes for a salesperson that was "on his way", but never showed up. The second visit; finally got to speak with a salesperson and after an hour of waiting found out the salesperson couldn't place the order and needed to speak with a supervisor that could enter the information. "They will call you this evening or tomorrow so you can place the order over the phone." Tomorrow came and went, no phone call was received. Called the store three times, but no one answered the phone. JCP is on the ropes financially, Gee, I wonder why. They blew a $5000 sale. read more

This JCPenney has changed so much! Customer service was excellent even when I went on a Saturday! The sales associate Jackie helped me find all the sizes I needed for my niece and nephew. Now they have baby furniture and needs too! It's so cute. Would definitely recommend this place! It's clean, everyone is friendly, and I had my own personal shopper. Which helped jcp because I normally wouldn't have added the extra 100$ worth of stuff. But I loved the help and the clothes! Thanks jcp!! read more

My experience here was okay overall. They do have a good selection in the jewelry department which is what I mainly came in for to do some holiday shopping. They also do have some good sales at certain times of the year, and I was able to catch one just right for a couple pair of shoes I bought here. But the service there is mediocre. The couple different sales associates I interacted with while I was here were kind of polite but you could tell they were not really motivated and one did not even seem to care to much about there job. My preferences is not to mention any names like another review here,but I feel like maybe their store management should figure out a way to train their staff to be more eager and willing to accommodating to their customer.s My experience was not horrible but it was not really great, WOW! either. DO NOT sign up for a store credit card. I had some very pushy sales reps sell me their store charge card claiming my purchase would be discounted. The cashier said, under her breath that it would be discounted when I got my statement however it was not. The customer care number I called informed me I would have to go back to the store to get the discount. It is only a menial $10 but you shouldn't outright lie to bolster your up sells at the counter. They do sell great pants though. read more

I placed an order online and realized I forgot to add my rewards. I called into the customers service department and reach a representative by the name of Kris out of their Milwaukee call center. Kris found my order and said it shouldn't be a problem adding the rewards. Kris placed me on hold and after being on hold for about 3 minutes the call was disconnected on her end. I then place a call right back and reached about representative who advised me that she see the order in the system but it was canceled by the previous representative (Kris). I stress the fact that I never asked for my order to be canceled just corrected. She wasn't able to correct Kris mess up. The time now shows as being out of stock online when the women tried to fix the order. I then asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor came on the line and her name was Kaleah out of the Chicago office I believe. She was the most argumentative, rudest supervisor I spoke to in my life. She barely apologized nor took responsibility of the madness that had happened. I'm just disgusted with JC Penny because these are the type of people you have to represent your company. I've been a cardholder with this company for over 15 years. This isn't the first time I've experienced poor customer service but at this point I'm done with this company. I will be closing my account with them and I will make a few others close their with this company as well. It's not acceptable to be treat so poorly by the people you have working for your company.
