Immediately after the new tire was installed, it began making a pronounced thumping noise. I called early the next morning to explain what had happened and told them I would be bringing the car back later that day. They asked for my phone number to confirm that I had been in the shop. I drove just over a mile back to the shop at no more than 20-25 mph, and the noise remained severe and noticeably worsened over that short distance. By the time I arrived, there was also a loud clanking noise coming from the new wheel when braking. I arrived around 4:00 p.m. and, because the noise had become a serious safety concern, called again as soon as I entered the line. I was told to simply wait and that they would take care of me. There were several cars ahead of me and no parking area to wait in, so I remained in a line extending into the road. Once I finally got into the shop, I waited over 90 minutes with very little communication other than somebody telling me to shut off my engine. I had to explain the situation to three separate employees, none of whom seemed to have the information I had already provided by phone. The woman I had spoken with earlier didn't come out to acknowledge our conversation until after the car had already been worked on, and then said she hadn't known I was there, despite my having called and been told to wait when I arrived. I specifically requested that they inspect the wheel, studs, and brake components for damage, rather than simply retightening the lug nuts. I was also specifically told that, once the tire work was complete, I should pull the car forward so that a second employee could perform a visual inspection for damage. That's not what happened. I personally watched the first technician remove and retighten the lug nuts, but I did not see him perform the requested damage inspection. When I pulled the car forward as instructed, the second employee did not perform the visual inspection I had been told would happen. Instead, he simply asked the first technician whether everything was okay. The first technician gave a thumbs-up, and they sent me on my way. The actual problem was eventually confirmed: the wheel had been installed loose. Multiple employees also initially asked where I had gotten the work done before addressing the actual problem, even though the tire had been installed at their shop the previous day. The car was eventually fixed, but the overall experience was extremely concerning. A wheel installed by this shop was loose enough to cause severe thumping and eventually clanking while braking, and the problem became significantly worse within roughly a mile. I returned specifically because I was concerned the vehicle was unsafe, yet I waited more than 90 minutes, repeatedly explained the same issue, and was told that a second employee would independently inspect the area for damage when that inspection did not actually happen. I'd think very carefully before trusting this shop with tire or wheel work.

We had damages to our car from a hit-and-run (2013 Honda Civic) that were fairly minor; however it required at least two new tires. Our insurance company recommended a place to get the body work done. We would normally take it to the Honda Dealership. After the body work was completed at this place, they recommended we get new tires at Will McCarthy's. I could explain the whole saga with our insurance company but that will be a different review that will not be receiving anywhere near FIVE stars. To say the least, we only needed two new tires but due to the excellent service from the staff and especially the GM, Will, we went with getting four new tires! Will helped us with several issues that should have been caught but weren't and even made phone calls for us, as well as got us in contact with people we never would have been able to otherwise! We are so thankful for everything he did! Our car drives great and we our very happy with this experience!

The road side assist guy that came to help me put the donut on, advised that a tire shop likely wouldn't plug it because the "injury spot" (a nail) was so close to the side, but he thought they should be able to do a patch from the inside but likely wouldn't' do a plug. As a woman and knowing nothing about tire repair, I was taking notes, for the common fear that as a woman or a person not knowing or seeming to know anything, I might get taken for a ride. I Yelp'ed nearby tire places, and by circumstance / situation, McCarthy was one of a few that was closest. I called to give them a heads up that I was coming, fearing an appointment may be needed and they said come on over! I drove over and my roller coaster of a bad day continued. The guy at the counter, comes out to assess my situation. He takes a look at the tire, and says he can't patch it because of where the nail went in.. I think great now I have to get at least 2 tires because they will never replace 1 (I'm familiar with these tire scenarios ) . But then he says , to my surprise and some skepticism, that he will just do one tire (what?!), um.. thank you universe, I don't have to get 2 new tires! We go inside, he checks inventory, I say I want, no I NEED the cheapest one please and a little typing later he declares he can do it all for 91 bucks. Yahoo, thank you , yes I'll take it. But no wait... damn we don't have THAT tire in stock. But we can order it and put it on tomorrow.. ugh no that won't work.. I'm in Hagerstown now and don't want to be driving all over the tri state with a donut or having to drive back into Hagerstown where I otherwise have no need to be, and adding this to my day the next day.. so I ask what's the cheapest that can be done today? Now we're at $150.. then he gets it down to $130 because I think he feels bad for me and my bad day? He takes my car into the shop and moments later comes out saying, you guessed it: you want the good news or the bad news first? And I'm thinking, seriously?! Another one of these moments! Come on!!! NO more bad news.. I say: Good news. He says: I can repair the tire after all. I leap with joy. Like literally leap from the curb I'm sitting on. Note I'm sitting on the curb outside because I want to sit outside because it was nice out; they had a very pleasant looking waiting room, I elected not to use ;) Then I ask, what's the bad news? He says I'm only gonna make $25 . And I think: 1) Holy moly this day is turning around. 2) Did he mess up the good news, bad news line? ;) 3) Where's the next curve ?! Nope, no more curve balls. He patches my tire, charges me a grand total of 25 bucks! And I promise him a review that will more than pay for the money he "lost" on me today! I'd be happy to share this story! Service is great, prices very responsible. It's not like when you go to Goodyear or Firestone tire stores and your just some customer waiting in the lounge. That said, I went Big Chain and I want to share my experience this morning with Discount Tire in Martinsburg. I looked around, read reviews on Consumer Reports for tires and tires stores, considered the local shop we have used since they opened 5 or 6 years ago... I decided to replace kind with kind. I got the same tires the car came with new. Michelin Primacy A/S. I figured they were good enough for Ford to spec on the car... I also decided on Discount Tire. They are Consumer Reports third highest rated chain and the only one of the top chains in the Martinsburg area. HOLY COW!!! I did the ordering online on Thursday and set up the appointment for 8:00 AM Saturday. Thursday: Email and text confirming the order. Friday: Email and text confirming the tires had been delivered and confirming the 8:00 AM Saturday appointment. This morning I arrived at the location at 7:48. Not open yet, no problem, I knew that. I am always early... 7:55: Tech comes out with a tablet, knows who I am, asks for the keys... 7:57 AM the car is in the service bay. Four techs descend on the car like a NASCAR pit crew. Four hydraulic jacks lift the car and by 8:00 AM all four wheels are off the car. Each tech takes one wheel and removes the tire, tests the TPS units, mounts and balances the new tire, and mounts it on the car. 8:11 the car is DONE. 8:12 the car is in the parking lot, I am finishing up with the service advisor. 8:15 I am in my car and pulling out of the parking lot. AMAZING!!! Everything done efficiently, professionally, properly. As I said, I like to shop with the locally owned stores but this is a level of service that can't be equaled. I should also mention that the price was far better than I could find anywhere else.

My wife and I went to Discount Tires in Martinsburg WV and ordered tires. They went down the price…read moreand and gave me a total which i had already done my math so i knew what it should be. it was almost 300 higher. i asked the guy to tell me how he got the prices. As he was quickly going down the list tires, install certificate, disposal. i said i dont want the certificates. He asked why, i replied i just dont want it. We leave, tires come in and my wife has to take it by herself this time. Well it started all over for her. The first guy says we have to do an inspection before you put the tires on. He says you need to get the wipers replaced($100+) and why did you refuse the certificates. She replied my husband just changed them 2 months ago, he says he has to get his manager to take it off. The manager comes out and says why are you refusing the certificates. Your making a mistake. These people are bullies and take advantage of people that dont know they dont have to get anything they dont want. They make it sound like someone has to get these things to get serviced. I can imagine how many elderly they have taken advantage of. Lets get to those certificates around 50 to 75 per tire, yes they will fix or replace them but how many people blow more than 1 tire out there in normal driving? If you blow one and you bought the certificates you already paid for that 1 tire in total certificates. Now if you happen to blow 2 tires, then it may be worth it, but i like my odds and I will always refuse this bs! Judging by the ratings Im seeing and the common stories its safe to say they dont care about reviews or customer service because we all continue to go there for whatever reason. I will drive 10 more miles and hit a different or support my local shop. These guys are bullies and thugs and take advantage of women, elderly and any other naive person that walks in! i wish so bad I was able to be there when those tires were installed!

The owner and manager aggressively denied any ownership of the issue at hand and claimed the reason was my car "eats tires" and alignment was my problem. I've owned and operated my vehicle and know a set of tires do NOT get worn out in less than a year. The only reason I even bought these tires is I hit a set of nails on Waynesboro Main Street and needed a replacement quick. I am a new father, I am also hitting hard times, instead of compassion and understanding of my situation and just asked what could be done to help; I was reverently told nothing will be done, conversation was over, to stop wasting their time, and leave. I whole heartedly do not recommend this location. Do yourself a favor and seek service elsewhere.
