We hired him to inspect a…read moresingle family home for us, and he was responsive and highly professional -- but with a sense of humor. He arrived at the house before we did, and had filled out all of the necessary paperwork to get the inspection rolling the night before. The inspection itself was incredibly thorough, which was wonderful, because as we went through the house with Harold, it was clear that the house needed more work than we had thought when we made our offer. There were many problems (costly problems that also would have grown into health hazards) he pointed out to us -- but that had been concealed to the untrained eye. Harold emailed us an extremely detailed report later that night with pictures, and clear language and recommendations. We determined that we were not going to buy the house, and we have Harold to thank for helping us to avoid huge issues down the road. Back into the housing market now, which stinks -- but we will absolutely hire Mt. Vernon Inspection Associates when we find the next house!

Doing a web search, Metro was one of many home inspection companies that had a straight-forward website and online booking. However, what set Metro apart from the others is that they listed the available days and time slots that they had inspectors available. They even had the name of the most probable (subject to change) inspector to make the appointment. That was important because I knew when the home we were considering was available to be opened, and I could quickly line up a day/time that worked out for both sides. After the appointment was set, I was called by one of the staff. She called to "talk me out of" the radon and pest inspection services (extra charge) because of the type of home and area it was located, those services were not valuable. The cherry on top was that for the month, they were giving a "gold" discount on the overall cost. Inspection went as planned and I received the final report by the end of the same day. I never had to state that I needed a quick turnaround, but I get the sense they knew based on the dates of our real estate transaction. Just superb service, and really made me feel I could not get as good of a service with any of the other inspection companies I was considering. If we ever buy another property in the metro Boston area, I'm using Metro 100%!

The inspection was very thorough, and Tod took his time to ensure he didn't miss anything that could cause issues down the road. I cannot thank MKC Associates--and specifically Tom Berthiaume--enough for the extraordinarily…read morethorough home inspection they conducted on a condo I intended to purchase. Their work quite literally saved me from making a huge mistake. The unit, located in a high‑end Boston property, turned out to be severely neglected and in need of major repairs. Without MKC's thoroughness, I might have ended up purchasing a property requiring immediate and expensive major electrical, plumbing, appliance, and fixture (windows and doors) repairs. Tom arrived early for the appointment, which took place over Labor Day weekend. That level of dedication matters, and I greatly appreciated being able to secure an expert inspection so quickly (literally a few days). The review lasted about 1.5 hours and covered not only the unit's interior but also the building's common areas, the roof, and the exterior envelope. I learned a lot--not just about the unit and its owner, but also about the HOA and the building's overall condition. The report was available the next day, both online as an interactive document and as a downloadable PDF. It was exceptionally detailed, well‑organized, and easy to navigate. MKC posts sample reports on their website, and I can confirm the real report you receive is just as comprehensive and descriptive as the examples. The photos show the actual appliances, fixtures, and features in the property, which makes reviewing deficiencies straightforward. MKC also provides helpful YouTube videos explaining how to access and interpret the report, including a powerful feature that allows buyers to communicate deficiencies and estimated repair or replacement costs directly to sellers. This tool is invaluable for anyone negotiating repairs or credits. The inspection cost--$860.25 in my case--was worth every penny. The unit I was considering would have required major expenditures to make it livable, and MKC's work prevented me from walking into a financial disaster. In summary, MKC is the real deal. Whether you're purchasing a condo or a single‑family home, I strongly encourage you to hire MKC for your inspection. You will not regret it.

Each time (but the last one, obviously), we had to call them and cancel the visit. Each time they were incredibly easy to reach despite one being at 7pm and another with less than 24 hours of notice! The voices on the end of the phone each time were sweet and caring and offered just the right amount of sympathy for the lost house every time we had to cancel. Finally, we didn't have to cancel! We've had the pleasure of working with Mike and Karen, and we talked to Mark a few times. Mike and Karen did the actual review and we couldn't be happier. They were on time (though we were not...) and immediately got to work taking pictures and taking notes. We had scheduled four hours for the inspection and we used every second. They both showed kindergarten-teacher level patience with us as we followed them around and tripped over our own feet asking questions. They walked us through everything and provided context to their points to make it easy to understand. I feel like I can actually read a boiler now! They answered questions we didn't even know we had. We expected the report the next day, but it arrived at 11:01pm that night. I'm not sure if that's always the case, but our house was in great condition, so there weren't a lot of things to elaborate on, but it was still a thorough 53 pages. Having that report and knowing exactly how each aspect was examined gave us the kind of confidence that we needed to buy our first house. I really can't express how pleased we were with our treatment and you can bet that when we buy our next home, if Hawkeye Home Inspections is still around (only because we don't plan on buying another home for a while), they'll be hearing from us again!
