What a hidden gem! I'm so grateful for the service provided by Johnson Home Repair. Jordan called…read moreme back within an hour. (Frankly, getting a call back from any handyman/contractor is 1/2 the battle) I needed part of an old bay window replaced. His insights proved he knew what he was doing. He asked me if I wanted to get the supplies or if I wanted him to do that. And then he share details about the options, and let me decide. Yes! Include me in the decision, not just decided for me. He was timely in doing the repair, showed up when he said he would be there. It took longer than he planned but no extra charge. He also noticed and took care of little extras, no charge. He just likes to do a good job. Reasonable prices, excellent craftsmanship, integrity and a "can-do" attitude. Just what I needed! I have already hired him on for two other projects.

My parents have owned a summer-only cabin on Big Spirit Lake since 1970. In the early years, our…read moredock consisted of heavy boards and solid wood posts that required a significant installation and removal effort every May and September (or so). Eventually we discovered VW Docks, which has been in the business of designing, building, and installing modular units since 1959. They're made of Western Red Cedar and can be installed, removed, raised, and lowered by one person without getting in the water. It's a pretty slick system. And even though my Dad is as healthy as a horse at 82 and his children have scattered to Albany, Maple Grove, West Des Moines, and Taipai, its OK (and fairly cheap) to have someone else do the seasonal dock work. We also appreciate the chance to sit on that sturdy VW Dock and enjoy the view.

My first trip Steve greeted me as I walked in and asked what I needed. When I told him he walked me to the appropriate area and started going over my options. I realized I was wildly unprepared and needed to go home to take photos and measurements. The very next day I came back armed with information and told Steve what we needed. He needed some time to cut the shelves and rods and called me once they were completed. My husband went and picked up the materials and said Steve had everything ready to go, including the star bit we needed to go with the screws. This place will be our first local stop whenever we do home remodeling!
