Studio Fit - Voted Best Zumba Class in Portland 2016

    Studio Fit

I've been taking classes at Studio Fit for a little over a year and this is truly my happy place…read more My schedule is so hectic, but I try to never miss the Saturday morning class. It allows me to check out and just dance in the moment. Studio Fit offers classes 7 days of the week at the very affordable price of $10. Susan (and all of the instructors) are super high energy and so great. There's a good variety of music and steps that are challenging yet easy to follow. Everyone is so encouraging and I never feel silly or out of place like I do at the gym. BONUS: The class on the last Saturday of the month is 90 minutes. Yay! I've taken many zumba classes and this is the first one that truly feels like a community. Every class feels new and fun and I always walk away feeling like I've had a really great workout with some really great people. If you are looking for a fun way to get moving, this is definitely it.

I'll admit it - I have no dance skills. None. I even have to concentrate so as not to trip while…read morewalking as the coordination sometimes isn't there. Despite all that, however, I just can't get enough of Zumba at Studio Fit Maine. After months of going to the gym and seeing no physical improvement, I decided that I needed to do something more energetic and fun. The gym was always a chore - a punishment, even - and I wanted to find some sort of physical activity that was motivating and, most of all, that I enjoyed doing. That's where Studio Fit came in. Owned by a wonderful lady named Susan (who is also a killer Zumba instructor), I decided to give it a whirl...and it was one of the best decisions I've made! Zumba is total cardio that leaves you sweating and out of breath, but it's SO MUCH FUN! Like most people out there, I thought I was going to die five minutes in, but sure enough, I got the hang of it, moved at my own pace, and had a blast. No one caress that your hair is a mess, that your shirt is soaked in sweat, and that you look like a goof ball trying to do these suave Ricky Martin dance moves. All anybody at Studio Fit Maine cares about is that you're having fun. Susan is one of the most energetic people I've ever seen - she is motivating and you can tell she is having fun. She is great at showing you the steps, telling you how you can adjust them for your ability, and then motivating you to keep going through the end of the song! I've also taken classes with Allison and she's a great instructor, as well (and funny, to boot). What I love most about Studio Fit Maine, though, is that there is no judgment. Whether you're a size 2 or a size 20, you can go and have fun without feeling insecure. The Zumba classes are only $5 each and you can just walk in. They also offer Zumba Gold for older adults and Bokwa, as well. Forget the gym and give Zumba at Studio Fit Maine a try!

It's an inclusive atmosphere and regardless of your fitness level you will be given the support you need to succeed. I'm grateful I got here. Thank you . I should also give a shout out to the front desk. Erica is so lovely and when my deltoid was giving me trouble she ran out to her car and lent me a massager to work on my arm before class. Jeremiah, such a good young man and then there is the Malakai, a nice new addition. I signed up not quite 2 years ago and I am healthier, actually have some shape in my arms & abs. Come and join me...I'm in the over 60 club! Jane B. PS There are all ages!

But, in less than a couple months, I had gone from the once a week membership to unlimited. So, when they announced that they were opening a second location - closer to my home and my office, I was so excited! I've been impatiently awaiting this location opening for months now. I'm happy to report that it's just as good as the other Maine location. It helps that Erica and Karleigh from the Portland studio (two of my faves) are now running this one - making the transition easy. The studio itself has several enhancements from the original - more lobby space, an extra shower, and the beauty bar. And, of course, the equipment is all shiny and new. But, let's face it - it's the workout that keeps me coming back! Sixty minutes of cardio and weight training, burning about 500 calories each time. The fact that no two workouts are ever the same keeps me from getting bored. I sing Orangetheory's praises every chance I get! If your are looking for something to mix up your workout, give this a try! You won't regret it!

When I'm not rocking it out at Yelp's Fit Club I come here for my regular boot camp classes. I say…read more"boot camp" but really they are just group training classes at a variety of levels. Nobody yells at you and it isn't a super competitive environment either. Usually a class will include a variety of elements--kettlebells, dumbbells, body-weight moves like pushups or situps, cardio--and the instructors are great about giving variations for those that are recovering from an injury or perhaps aren't yet able to do a harder version. You'll generally get a demonstration of each movement, and extra help if you're not getting it right away. Perfect for beginners, with flexibility for regulars to get better over time. This is the perfect setup for me because I've finally come to the conclusion that I will never be motivated enough on my own to really workout hard. I get bored after five minutes on a treadmill. Jogging or riding my bike outside occasionally capture my attention, but that's really only good when the weather supports it and here in Maine that's like two months out of the year. Train Maine also offers personal training or private classes. They have two nice-sized rooms so that a personal training session can go on at the same time as larger group classes. Usually any given class isn't too crowded and the price is extremely reasonable. Plus they offer morning, mid-day and evening classes to meet a variety of needs. The only downside of this location is that there is no shower facility so you really can't workout here and then go to work (or back to work for mid-day classes). You WILL get sweaty, there's no getting around that.
