We are so happy with our choice in studios as they have helped us raise beautiful dancers and people inside and out. The studio owner always has the kids best interest at heart and offers so many opportunities for all ages...and it keeps growing all the time. The faculty is absolutely amazing in technique, creativity, & amazing role models for our kids! I would highly recommend any dancer or young one wanting to dance to join at this studio!

She was able to grow with the studio, dancers and teachers, developing at the nights level. The studio owner often opened and arranged for her to self rehearse on weekend mornings and late weekdays. Having danced in communities across the country and even abroad (and having been a performer and…read moreorganizer in several such communities), I can't recommend PICD highly enough. There is no other dance community, so far as I'm aware, which is more welcoming to newcomers, more appreciative of the music and performers on stage, more aware of how to be as inclusive as possible to as many people as possible, or more filled with a smiling, laughing, intergenerational group of wonder humans dancing together. PICD simply checks all the boxes. Seriously, whether you've been dancing for 30 years or you've never tried contra before and are simply curious, an evening spent at the Portland Intown Contra Dance will not be an evening wasted. Go enjoy!

I go to this dance often and it's amazing what a soul-cleansing fun experience it is! There is…read morealways a live band and that adds to the fun energy quite a bit (and is a great way to learn about regional artists!). My experience has been that everyone is really friendly and it's a very safe space. I used to take a date but now I just go by myself and it's never a problem finding someone to dance with (or if you are feeling shy for the moment that is OK too). This is one of those activities that if you don't know what it is, you might not have any idea how fun it is and how easy it is to get started. They have a tutorial that starts at 7 to show you the ropes but you don't even need to go to that if you can't make it by 7 -- before each dance you get a run-down of how it will go. It can be fun figuring it out as you go! I've noticed the beaming smiles on people's faces as they start to dance for the first time. I don't even think they realize they are smiling. Check it out!

Even the other parents many of which are our friends are confused. Staff said a parent complained, these are 3 and 4 year olds, parents are in attendance for the entire class, never was any issue brought by coaches or parents during or after class. So now my son is confused why he can't see his friends anymore at gym. We have taken our business elsewhere. As a long time athlete I cannot express how disappointed I am in this staff. They seem annoyed at having to teach 3 and 4 yeard olds. Rather then enjoy developing what could be your future athlete, your staff acts annoyed and runs from actual coaching.

On the MMA side of the gym: Rob's MMA striking class is great and he will make you get comfortable in your opposite stance. Henry's submission grappling class is ridiculously fun and he is amazing at helping you jump into something that feels so completely foreign if you're new. Darren could not be more passionate about boxing and is so good about teaching you both the outer AND the inner game of boxing. In the kickboxing class Jon is all about proper technique so he will help you undo all the poor form you didn't even realize you were doing. Matt is a pro Muay Thai fighter who is approachable and a wealth of knowledge. In Jon's MMA striking class you get awesome instruction while doing really fun exercises and he will whip you into shape but with a sense of humor the whole time. On the BoxFit side: Mariel and Lilia lead super creative HIIT circuit classes that will make you sore for days. Mandy is a lovely badass and by the end of one of her intense classes you will be surrounded by a pool of your own sweat. Eric is hilarious and will push you to push yourself! If you spend any time here you'll quickly get a sense that Eric and Mandy work hard to make this feel like a community where everybody is welcome. They do this in terms of offering classes at really affordable prices, but more than that through the way they authentically interact with everyone who walks in the door. I was pretty intimidated about walking into a gym like this for the first time but it feels like an ego-free zone where you get the opportunity to learn new things alongside friendly people. It doesn't hurt that Chris at the front desk is incredibly welcoming and there's usually a sweet lab named Rio waiting to greet you. For first timers: -First class is free! (They have gloves you can use if you're not sure you want to buy them yet) -Don't believe Google maps' lies; the main entrance is off of Bridge St., behind Dunkin Donuts, not off of Bridgton Rd.
