I honestly did not like the workout my first 1 or 2 times -- I got a bit confused as to where I was going... but by the third visit I totally had it down (it truly is simple once you get a rep or two) and actually started to LOVE the workout. It's a high intensity heart-rate pretty much the whole 35 minutes with some weight work snuck in between minutes on the airdyne bike. It's a killer. In just 7 days I noticed my cardio abilities improving. There is a lot of weight/strength exercises during the workout, but I wouldn't say this is where you'd go to gain power strength and bulk up. More like muscular endurance while gaining some strength. You're done in 35 minutes, and you can choose to stay for 7 minutes ish of ab work and 3 minutes ish of stretching (and then you actually have time to stretch on your own in the studio without being pressured out for the next class... woot!). All of the coaches were great, too and fun to have as a workout guide. They do all kinds of fun recognition for members who hit certain milestones... while that's not totally my thing, it really did bring some comradery to a large group of strangers working out together. It's fun to be excited for somebody else! If I had to find a negative, it is that you absolutely DO NOT have sufficient time to transition from the bike to a weight station in most cases... and you're often running into other people running all over doing the same. I wish there was a more systematic transition... but I learned to get over it. All 7 days that I went during my free trial, not one single staff member tried to sell me on a membership or give some rehearsed pitch. Totally different than any other chain gym I've gone to and it was kind of a relief. I actually had to contact Basecamp to talk membership because after the 7 days, I really was interested (I did not start this trial intending to continue with a membership). This was at the very end of February when the mask mandate was expiring, and I'm just not ready to be in an indoor room with a large group of unmasked and only-maybe-vaccinated people breathing heavily for 45 minutes. If things go well for a few months, I'll totally join. If the masks coming off doesn't bother you... you definitely need to give Basecamp a try!

Everyone was so nice and encouraging, and even if you're new to working out they make everyone feel completely comfortable. It was really fun and effective I'll definitely be sore! I still have no rhythm, but the classes are welcoming and I feel comfortable stumbling along about a half beat behind the instructor. I've mostly stuck to the beginner belly dancing classes, but I've also made it out to ladies burlesque night and just recently to the chub club dance party kick-off. That last event was a ton of fun, and like all of dance life's classes was a great mix of ages, sizes, and dance experience. Once you attend your first class, the rest of your groupon classes never expire, so even if you can't make it out regularly it's still a good deal!

I've been a student here since January 2013 and became a volunteer instructor in August of 2013. Most, if not all, of the instructors here are volunteers. We all have "day jobs" but we love this place and owner Arielle so much that we teach classes in exchange for taking classes. Dance Life offers fitness classes such as Zumba, piyo, piloxing, Oula, dance classes like bellydance and ballet, and crossover classes like 'tone and tease' and burlesque fitness. The main entry has a cozy lobby space with overstuffed sofas, chairs, and decorative pillows where we all gather before classes begin. There is a changing area, two restrooms and a water dispenser in case you forgot your water bottle. Classes happen in either the large Sultana Studio or the smaller Peacock Studio. I'll post a photo of the wonderful peacock mural next time I'm at the studio. There is a small shop where you can stock up on bellydance hip scarves and other dance apparel. There is also a small practice studio that students can rent. In fact, when classes aren't in session the whole studio is available to rent! Parking spots are located along the walls of the building. It can get a little crowded on busy nights like special ladies nights events but it's usually not an issue. Come check it out, you just may find your home away from home.

I'm glad to report it is much better in 2024: very updated equipment, spread out, bikes and treadmills near the weights. I'm mainly there to warm up and cool down with cardio, before I ldo weights, so this is convenient for my routine. The facility is old but they seem to be doing the best they can with the space they have to work with. Genuinely helpful staff, too, which was not the situation 6-7 years ago. Why three stars? The summer hours are terrible and they actually closed early on a Saturday that was already closing at 5pm. For what a Y membership costs, I think I'll have a better experience value-wise trying Madison East or the other locations, but this is better than it was.

During my career at the Y, the directors made special exceptions to allow violence toward students and teachers for specific students, leaving the rest of the class in danger. Such as letting children run around the entire building, hurting other children or teachers without repercussions of their actions. There is no behavior modification or specialists to help aide the children either. Teachers are heavily reliant on using communication but receive little to none in return from directors. Teachers are expected to make note of all incident and accident reports via paper copy which caused three months worth of incident reports were "lost" and never recovered. When tasks are delegated there is little to no time to complete them. I was given two hours to move my whole classroom alone with less than a days notice, resulting in the loss of our key to the med box. Teachers at the Y are planning children's day to day and do not need to be worried about the state of their classroom aesthetic only if the materials are developmentally appropriate for their age. If you care more about your child's safety and well-being than the aesthetic of your child's classroom, find another facility.

I was so excited to meet Peter since I loved watched him on the Bachelor. My hopes were very high when I met him and he did not disappoint!! Peter was very personable and his passion for fitness was very clear. He was so excited about his business opening and graciously allowed my husband and I the opportunity to work out free of charge at the facility a few times to try it out. He even let me take a picture with him and went the extra mile to comment on the picture on Instagram. The facility itself is extremely clean, well organized, and even well decorated. There are several weight and cardio machines to choose from. All the machines are relatively new and accessible. There's even a training area covered in astroturf. They use this area for classes led by different instructors, including Peter. The classes are super fun and the instructors do a great job of training their members and making the classes fun. The gym has a great location in downtown Middleton. It's near several shops, apartments, and even a brewery right next door if you want to reward yourself after a great workout! There's even a bunch of green space in front. I was definitely considering becoming a member until we moved about 20 minutes North. We are thinking of moving back to the Middleton area one day so if we do, I will definitely be joining Peter Kraus Fitness.

They have a special of 2 6-week sessions for $140 so it's a pretty good deal. This class definitely helps you be more comfortable in your own skin and become more confident. I could see that in myself and in a lot of the other women in the class. The studio itself is one big room with 8(?) poles evenly spaced from one another. The mirrors are a little wonky so sometimes is hard to see yourself. There are changing rooms before you walk into the big room and a bathroom on the very opposite side of the entrance. No outdoor shoes in side and you can be barefoot or in socks while in class. The 1 hour classes would start with check-in (which sometimes took longer than needed) and about 5-10 minutes of stretching. We would then go over what we learned the week before and learn 2-3 new spins and a sequence of lap/floor/chair moves and then the last 5 min or cleaning your pole and stretching. Our instructor Melissa was great. Really friendly, super knowledgeable about all the moves. 1 hour to practice and then remember was really difficult for me though. I felt like it was not enough time to really perfect the move and grasp the choreography. I'm a perfectionist and wanted to practice it until I got it down. We learned a routine on the last session but I feel like it would be fun to learn a routine at the end of the every class or do like a routine add on with each class so that you could keep re-practice the moves week by week. They do have open pole hour for you to come in and practice but they're right at 5 or 6pm. Right now during Covid-19, they are offering virtual donation-based classes which is great for those lap/chair moves! I'm excited to start Pole 2 and keep honing in my skills!

For that reason and other factors, I canceled my membership, but I was charged for months afterwards. To keep this short, when I called to ask for a refund, the staff were friendly, but it ultimately is up to the manager, who is currently Josh, to issue a refund. Josh is very hard to reach - he's always "busy" (at least, that's what it feels like he instructs his staff to say). He made several false promises to me about my refund being on its way and when I asked him to send over documentation, he said "You don't believe me?" and he never sent over a single document. In the end, it took me 15 phone calls and 6 months to obtain my refund. His email is gm@crunchmadison.com but I wouldn't expect a response.
