In conjunction with a very healthy diet, lots of rest and 64+ ounces of water a day, I've seen significant improvements in my physique, energy levels and overall fitness level. What I like most about the gym itself is that it's very clean (well-maintained), spacious and very well laid out. One of the things that is noticeable upon entering the gym is the absence of the typical "gym smell". Meaning, the flooring and bumpers are either done off-gassing or Power Train has invested in higher quality products that don't off-gas. Also, the ventilation must be exceptional because it doesn't have a musty smell (even though there is plenty of sweat produced there). Whoever designed the layout of the workout areas did us all a favor by allowing for more than adequate space between equipment. The area with the exercise balls is not crammed between the benches, the racks aren't on top of one another, the dumbbell racks aren't in the way, etc. Essentially, moving around the gym is not a hassle and working out on a machine will not, in any way, encroach on other people's space. There are two things I'd improve, if I had to get nit picky: 1) the showers could use some love - there are no outlets in the showers and no fans (i.e. no ventilation). Not a deal-breaker, but not optimal because we're forced to go to the bathroom to use the outlet to plug in a hairdryer, for example. 2) we could use space to hang clothes - there is no place to hang clothes when you are working out, so the only real option is to go to the car to get your clothes after you work out (before you shower) That being said, the best thing about Power Train are the people. Jimmy runs a tight ship with some very motivating and talented personal trainers. In the 45 sessions I've had at Power Train since June, I haven't had a bad workout or one where I left wishing I hadn't gone - they have all been great sessions. Additionally, after two months of moving weight and doing boot camps, not a single injury nor any ligament or tendon pain, which is outstanding. I recommend going to Power Train for anyone who's looking to improve their overall fitness level or get their health back on track. Hands down, probably the best decision I've made in years.

If someone isn't there to guide me while lifting weights, well then I'm shit out of luck. Cardio workouts are the only thing I know. A few weeks ago I finally realized it was time to get my act together and learn how to do more than run on a treadmill or dance around a studio. My best friend's little sister has been a part of Noble Crossfit for over a year now and always tried to get me to join. I was mainly discouraged before because of the price tag, but thought if I maybe didn't go out to eat and drink EVERY weekend..then I can use that money to pay for Crossfit. Or I can pretend I'm a baller and do it all? Sounds like something I'd do. Then I compared it to getting a personal trainer, which essentially that's what Noble Crossfit offers. At my gym, they charge $80 PER SESSION for a personal trainer. That trainer better give me the body of Jen Selter in that session if I'm paying $80 an hour. So, yes..a membership at Noble Crossfit is overall a GREAT value. Anyways, Noble Crossfit has been great. Laura, Nathan, and Ma truly care that you're doing the work outs properly and will adjust to your capabilities. Seeing as I have basically no upper body strength or lifting experience, they really take the time out to show me the proper techniques and form. They, along with all the members, are not there to judge you. They are there to help you lead a healthier lifestyle, so you'll never get that judgmental vibe. Yes there will be members there that are far more experienced than you, but honestly..they're focused on their own workouts...not standing there to see how much you can lift. I love that they have the workout of the day, which presents a variety/combination of work outs. Every day that you come in, you're in for a new surprise. And sometimes what's listed on the board will make you want to run back to your car and go home, but then you realize to not get scared because the instructors will guide you through it all. Nothing is impossible. You just gotta work hard and you'll grow and see results from there. And no, Noble Crossfit is not a cult..like many people assume haha

Also, she had us move to the middle reformer machines, I would have felt more comfortable at the end. This is truly a great workout and targets muscles with smaller movements that compound workouts miss. Upon signing up for the class, an email and text message are sent with information, including the code to enter. They also mention that there are charges if canceling or no-showing. They have solidcore merchandise available for purchase with the card on file. They also provide items such as hair ties, bobby pins, hear buds (if the music is too loud), etc. The customer service is average, there was one person at the front and she wasn't very engaging. The business is located on the lower level of a larger building.There is free parking in front of and around the business. There is also a parking garage with some free parking (check the signs!). With prices starting at $99/mo for 4 classes/month all the way up to $180/mo for unlimited, it can be extremely pricey - especially for the level of instruction you're receiving. To be honest, there is no check in system so you could just sign up for the basic package and show up for more than 4 classes a month. Nobody would check up on it. The unlimited classes are meant for students to be able to take whatever class they want. (CrossFit, Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu are all offered here) However, the head coaches frown upon you for straying from your core classes so there is rarely any crossover between students. Regardless of which membership package you sign up for, Capital has multiple locations, any of which you can cross train at throughout Maryland and Virginia - Alexandria, Takoma Park, Lorton, Loudoun, and Fairfax. The CrossFit program offers a good workout, but there is negligent detail in using proper technique. I would be cautious of completing a lift for the sake of time or simply to complete it. However, they do have a well equipped CrossFit area. The owner may be a Royce Gracie black belt but just take one of his classes and you'll see that things don't add up. Roll with him even! Having rolled with high level belts, a high ranking blue belt is more qualified to teach. There is more emphasis on everybody being friends (and Capital being more of a social club) than being actual training partners/improving your game. A lot of chit chat in classes with minimal attention to details and technique. Beginners are often left to be helped by other white belts. The general manager is not very pleasant to deal with and can turn potential members away just by his attitude. He is also the head striking coach but has no credentials to back this up. Beginners are thrown into class with no instruction on how to throw a proper punch or kick and expected to be able to keep up with the rest of class. Again, beginners are left to learn from beginners. The head coaches at Capital are more concerned with how they look than teaching their students sound technique and it shows with their fighters. While their facility is extremely nice and well kept, kids run rampant here and neither the staff nor the parents keep them in check. Kids are often zooming around on scooters, playing catch, toys are scattered all over or they're just running throughout the gym. For potential members checking out Capital - I recommend doing your research on the instructors and beware of the 5 star reviews here. The owner often asks his members to post reviews to boost the gym's reputation.
