Probably 20 people or more had set their chairs on the concrete dance floor and when the MC who has been doing this for years came up to speak he did not say anything to these people taking up the dance floor! Several people around us left saying if there is no place to dance what's the point? The solution is to have a sign printed and placed on front of stage that says NO CHAIRS ALLOWED ON CONCRETE DANCE FLOOR. Simple solution but I bet they will not do this! Shame on the MC for not having a backbone to stand up for the rest of us!!

This park truly feels like once in a lifetime experience! I…read moredon't hike often, however, felt this was a worthwhile trip. We decided to head there in the morning. It was about an hour drive from Fort Worth, and it's eight dollars per person to enter the park. Your access gives you the ability to visit all national parks for the period in which you bought your ticket so 24 hours total. There's various trials you can do, we ultimately ended up doing two, and the moderate one is quite difficult due to the terrain. However, the overlook was a straightforward trail with a beautiful view at the end. I would say the times a lot to each trail are accurate, you wanna ensure you get there early because it does get hot in mind you it is Texas in the summertime. We packed lots of snacks, and had our water. We also took some time to dip our feet in and look at the Dino tracks up close. There's so many ways you can spend your day here, however, some quick exercise, and beautiful views definitely doesn't go wrong! You also get the opportunity to learn lots, and we took the time to take all the knowledge we could by reading through the exhibit in the welcome center. (:

Park employees were friendly and very helpful. They explained the new covid rules to us and allowed us to enter without a reservation. But after witnessing how active the hiking paths were, I can see how they could reach capacity quickly. It wasn't overcrowded by anyone's standards, just more active than I have ever seen this park to be. Rented a kayak (with life jacket & vest) for two (2) hours = approx. $32. And they were pretty lenient on the time by rounding up in the hour. If you have any issue with the an old school over the neck/strap around the back/single buckle in front, orange life vest (hope that paints a clear enough picture), then bring your own. All of the equipment was well maintained and clean, including the bathroom facilities.

The only drawback is I had to rent a campsite for the day in order to get a fire blazing. Kind of sucked since I wasn't planning on spending the night. Oh well! It was all still worth it as I supported nature and TPWD. The hiking trails were challenging and invigorating. Thankfully they were also very clearly marked. They were a challenge with all the natural rock and rock cliffs. Penitentiary Hollow was the main attraction of the hike. Wow, Lake Mineral Wells rocks with awesomeness! Please camp here!

If water conditions are safe, there is also swimming... So bring your floaties! There are also bathrooms, and (I think) changing rooms. There might be a snack shop, but I've never been here when it's open, so maybe not. Only reason I'm not going 5 stars is that the unpaved parking lot is a navigation nightmare! It's also very bumpy, and entry in and out is rather steep. To top this quagmire off, there's also a huge, Texas-sized, truck blocking the parking isles. The truck usually has an over-sized trailer hitch making things even worse. Lastly, be sure to read the warning sign. If the water is not moving, i.e. stagnant, there is the danger of unhealthy "amoeba organisms."

I'd really recommend catch and release (who knows what fertilizers and such drain into here) but it is stocked with catfish and perch. The lake includes a large picnic shelter with tables and a fireplace. Restrooms (thank you!) and a walking trail that loops 0.6 miles around the lake. It is a beautiful place, very clean and well kept. If you are coming in with family, this is perfect, but if you want to hike, this is not your spot.

They showed me the key highlights of the park on the map. Then I shopped their merchandise in the park store. The trails were very well maintained and laid out. Each path was clearly visible so as not to get lost or off the marked walkway. I even spent some time in one of the day use areas to read this month's issue of Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine. Aaaaamazing!!! This…read morepark checks every box. Walkable, bike friendly, and perfect for a solid run. The trail is paved and lined with mile markers, which I always appreciate. Each bridge has clear street signs and access points with stairs or exits, so you can hop on or off wherever you need. There are also location markers along the trail, (for emergency purposes )which is great for safety in such a large park. Playgrounds are scattered throughout, and there is even a basketball court tucked under a bridge with really cool graffiti that gives it some personality. The park is clean. Like noticeably clean. Restrooms are mostly portable, but many are enclosed in small structures so they blend in better and are not an eyesore. And yes, they were clean. You will find kayaking launch areas, fishing spots, picnic tables, and benches everywhere. There is plenty of space to spread out without feeling isolated. It is not overcrowded, but you are not alone either. The crowd felt easygoing, and cyclists were respectful. I felt completely safe the entire time. There are multiple paths to switch things up, plus a few shorter gravel routes if you want a change of pace. I even spotted e bike stations along the way. Honestly, this park sits right in the heart of Fort Worth and makes it feel like you do not even need a car in this part of DFW. One of the best runs I have had in a while.

I am glad I didn't want a swim because even though the lake was high it was 60 degrees or so that day. The only ones in the water were the geese and ducks. The restroom and outside shower were nice. That is the side of the park w the beach parking. I accidentally parked in the conference center parking lot. I had a nice time and saw a turtle on the catwalk. It dived under water. All in all a great place to spend a bit of quiet time at the start of my day. I included a pic of the rules and even though the water level was high I saw pics on Yelp where it wasn't so you might want to keep that in mind as well.
