What a fantastic little German gem I decided to take a road trip with my Mom as we both love German…read morefood and it was all that and more. The Jaeger schnitzel was hearty tender and delicious with a great crunch on the breading! Red cabbage was seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of sweet and tangy with a couple of Hintz of the spice. I'm not even sure what it was, but it was really awesome. If you get the Spaetzle and you're a traditionalist be sure to ask for it just the buttered version not the saucy white sauce, cheese version. I would definitely make the trip again and recommend it to anyone looking for a good German meal. The menu is a little bit limited, but I'm guessing everything they do is exquisite. Prost!!

We were in Indiana visiting family and wanted to eat here because one of our favorite YouTubers had…read moredone the challenge. We came in the middle of the afternoon and it was empty. The server seemed dazed and confused. We asked him questions but he didn't seem to know anything. We absolutely love German food so we were excited. However, this wasn't really German food. First, how does a German restaurant not have German beer on tap? Then I ordered the schnitzel. It wasn't pounded out correctly and was too thick to be considered schnitzel. The breading had no seasoning. My husband (vegetarian) ordered the veggie melt, which was on the menu, but he was told they no longer make it. He ended up getting a "sides plate." When it arrived, there were 4 of the smallest portions of sides ever. Why not just make spaetzel a main dish? Voila, you have a vegetarian option! My daughter ended up getting a pretzel because the spaetzel she wanted had too many other ingredients in it for her liking. That's on us not the restaurant. Overall, as German restaurant connoisseurs, we were disappointed.

Another fabulous visit to Shapiro's! A friend from out of town wanted a local fav so we came here -…read moreand she was blown away by the flavors and offerings! I ended up getting several pastries and some bagels (as why would you not), as well as their broccoli salad, cheese sandwich and some cherry pie. Yum! We sat for a few hours to chat and I love how it feels like you are in the middle of a community endeavor. Like everyone here is a friend and you can chat and meet up and feel at home. She wanted to take a Rueben home to her husband but it was a flight away, so the staff let her buy all the fixings and then make it at home. Amazing! It traveled well that way and got to be enjoyed by others. Will always go back to this spot as it has a special place in my heart as my Dad loved it, and it is an I su classic!

Respectable deli in downtown Indy, but stupidly overpriced…read more.. Shapiro's is an Indy original and alleged "must stop", according to many people... Situated right across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium (aka "The House That Peyton Built"), Shapiros is easily accessible and has an inviting vibe to it. We stopped in for lunch today while in town for business and they were moderately busy. The restaurant is kind of a deli/cafeteria hybrid with a little bit of everything (similar to Katz in NYC). Shapiro's is known for their corn beef and pastrami, so naturally I had to give the Reuben a try... Great sandwich and the sides (potato and broccoli salads were good too), but my God was this place absurdly over priced. $45 for lunch (one person) is not customer price gouging, but rather mafia-like extortion... Yikes. While Shapiro's was really good, it's not as good as Slyman's in Cleveland (which you can get lunch for about half the price of Shapiro's).
