Since they had stacks on stacks of them, I take it back to swap it out for one that, ya know, actually lights. The kid behind the counter tried to make me feel like a complete dumba$$. He takes the lighter and after trying a few times gets it to work, and just looks at me like I'm asking him for a kidney or something. I explain that it may work once in a while but most the time it doesn't. He proceeds to show me how to "work" the lighter "correctly" as if it's rocket science then has the stones to try to get me to buy butane. This goes on for minutes while I'm late to work; finally I just say, "so you're not gonna let me exchange it for a working one then??" His response, "no, no it work!!" No, it don't work, buddy. And ya just lost a customer over a $10 lighter.

In addition to live baitfish, worms, crickets, and other goodies, the store carries a pretty good selection of tackle, lures, and prepared baits. The Shedd also sells some snacks, cold drinks, warm beer 12 packs, tobacco products, and features a nice sandwich counter. As if that weren't enough, they have kayak rentals, a couple of self-serve gasoline pumps, and probably some things I'm forgetting. No beer sales on Sundays means you either BYOB for the long weekend, or purchase ahead of time. You'll pay 30¢ more per gallon for gasoline here than in Bloomington, but convenience sometimes win, and running out of gas always does. The staff is friendly and easy going. Nice kids working here. One note: if you're looking for a fishing license, they don't sell them here anymore. You can get one at Dicks Sporting Goods in Bloomington, or purchase online with your smartphone. Definitely worth a stop on your way to Lake Monroe. Open late, too.

They have several shelves stocked with sample containers so that you would be able to take a sample of each spice so that you can make an informed decision of what to purchase. The following spices/flavors are the best I have ever tasted. Vanilla extract (nothing else I have tried comes close), cinnamon (same as the vanilla), I am asked regularly to pick up their lemon pepper for gifts. Those are just three of the many that I buy from this company. When ever my work takes me to Brownstown I always stop by and stock up. First trip I bought 6 drinks and laundry soap for $10. Second trip was cigarettes at a hefty price of $5.97 but I don't know if that is normal for Indiana or not. We usually buy cigarettes in Missouri when we come up here, we were just a day short. Considering CVS is 0.6 miles and this place is like 0.1, honestly I would walk here instead of CVS in the summer. I only gave it 3 stars because they aren't too friendly and the prices are a bit expensive but it won't deter me from getting there and back to my room in ~5 minutes.

There is always a sale on meats. This is a great time to stock up your freezer. The store is always clean and inviting. They do a great job on placement of items. It's easy to find items, unlike your typical box stores. The reason for four star is some items are higher priced than your typical box store. I believe if they were a little more competitive on price they would possibly increase their sales.
