Another great dinner. A bit surprised that the restaurant was not that crowded on a Saturday. But they were doing a good takeout business We were seated quickly and brought some waters. Nice that they use iPads for their menu so you get color pictures and a description of each dish. As usual, we over ordered. But as we see it... Now we have leftovers for another meal. Love love love the kabobs I just wanted some meat and vegetables. I wanted a healthy lunch. I came in and sat in the bar area and was served right away, and the server was helpful with choosing which one she thought was better since I never tried any of them. I don't remember the name of the one I went with, but I know you could pick up spice level from 1 to 6. I picked four and it wasn't that spicy for me. It was a healthy portion of chickens and vegetables cooked perfectly and a huge side of white. I'm going to assume basmati rice. All the food here was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. I would definitely order the butter chicken to go the next time I'm craving Indian food. The inside of the restaurant was very pretty and clean. It looks like a great place to watch sports. I will say the menu being on an electronic tablet was weird and I wasn't a fan. Also, the service felt a bit lackluster, which was disappointing since my mom and I don't get to go out to lunch together very often. The beach location came highly recommended but I was in the neighborhood so decided to give this a shot. I ordered the chicken biryani and a mango lassi to go. The guy who took my order was very nice. The mango lassi tasted sour, like it was rotten. I thought I could just get through it, but ended up throwing it away when I got home. The chicken biryani was a really nice portion, but the rice lacked flavor, and the chicken was super hard and dry. I know biryani is kind of a tricky dish to get right, so I might be willing to come back, but I think I'll definitely be trying the beach location first. read more

Came here Sunday for lunch and it was delicious. The vegetable samosa had big portions. I would recommend the butter chicken, which has amazing flavor. The Baigan Bharta is a tasty vegan eggplant dish. I didn't enjoy the curry chicken as much, due to how the flavoring wasn't as savory as I expected, it was kind of bland especially compared to the butter chicken. I was complaining about how mediocre the Indian food I could find in JAX was to the proprietor of the Indian grocery I frequent. He asked me where I had been and I named the places and he said, in essence, "do you expect to find authentic Italian food at Olive Garden". I had to say NO ( I mean it is not really bad but it is NOT authentic). He then suggested JAX Spice with the proviso that he was NOT related ot anyone there and gets no perks for recommendations, but that it is where he goes when his wife does not cook (and for the record she teached Indian cooking) Well I went and it was the best Indian food I have had since I ate Indian in London (about as good and authentic as you can get unless you actually go to India). Their prices look high at first but then the portions arrive. A couple can EASILY share n entree and even have some to take home. The Tikka Masala and Butter chicken are both DELICIOUS and here is the surprising part for me. I am a dyed in the wool carnivore and even I like (and will order) the vegetarian dishes. Their veggie Korma is super and their Gobi Manchurian is binge worthy. I cannot stop ordering it! The ambiance is laid back and service is super (at least at the one off CR 210 that I go to). I cannot say enough good about it and I get cravings about twice a month and have to go there. It is a bit more upscale than many of the Jax establishments, but still laid back enough that you feel comfortable with a big family. read more

Went here on a Saturday night. Their reservation system was down, but we got seated at a decent time despite having one. There's booths on both sides of the restaurant. Club music was playing for background noise, but it wasn't loud. Decent amount of parking in front of restaurant. The food was decent. The Jax tandoori came out colder than expected. The fish curry was house fish which was tilapia. It felt like the fish just sat in the sauce in terms of flavor. We started out with a few appetizers, CHICKEN 65 Spice sauteed chicken pieces in a delicious sauce. Also ordered CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAP Spiced ground chicken in a light seasoned sauce. Lokendra was our server and was attentive to our needs and answered all of our questions. The restaurant was about half full and the setting was great easy to have a conversation during dinner. We ordered HARIYALI CHICKEN Boneless grilled chicken white meat, marinated, sauteed with mint and GRILLED SHRIMP House masala marinated Jumbo shrimp with mix grilled vegetables. The portions were large and delicious. We finished the night with the pastry balls in a coconut sauce....so good!! The place was great for a party of 6 but could hold more if needed and had a friendly vibe. Everyone at our table enjoyed all that they ordered, including me. The level of spice from mild to spicy was on point for all of us as well. Although we might've irritated our server a little bit as we kept switching up on the drinks? We came on a Saturday for my dad's birthday lunch. Came at 12:30 and there was barely anyone in there. The food here is great! I love that you can choose your spice level. We tried all kinds of food. I loved the tikka masala and butter chicken. The tandoori was really good too, especially the shrimp. It felt clean inside, which is always a plus. The service was not the best, unfortunately. We were begging for water, the woman had rbf the whole time, made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Again, barely anyone there at the time, so I don't feel like it was warranted. When you first walk in you immediately smell the food. And it's not a bad smell it smells good. You feel like the food is definitely being cooked and not super prepped in advance. Being my first time here it definitely made me excited. The veg pakora was something I tried for the first time I've had this and it was surprisingly crispy with a soft center. The sauces served with it were a great compliment. My main dish the Dhansak Chicken was something else I was new to try. It was definitely rewarding with flavor and spices. I ordered it with mild plus and I will say I should have done the medium. But I'm always in easy with spice. And the naan paired perfectly with it. I will say the rice was dryer than my preference but I also don't typically eat basmati rice often. So it could be exactly as it was supposed to be. That being said the portions were a lot bigger than I was expecting. I definitely felt like I got my money worth of food and I'm very satisfied. My server was good, just the right amount of attentive without being overbearing. Especially since it was a bit busy when we arrived. Considering it was my first time here I needed more time to decide on things. But she suggested naan and I realized I had completely forgot to order any and glad she mentioned it. We had a late lunch at Jax Spice. This was our first time eating there. We found the menu to have a large variety of dishes we had never seen or eaten before. Jax spice, we learned, serves Northern India/Himalayan/Nepalese cuisine. We ordered Kachumber Salad (fresh cucumber salad), Grill Paneer Tikka (grilled cottage cheese), Kadhai (chicken with curry), Lamb Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan (flat bread ) and washed it down with an Indian beer, Kingfisher. It was all very tasty and large portions. Any of the main dishes (Lamb Rogan Josh and Kadhai) could be shared. The restaurant had a full bar, was spacious, well organized and very clean. I Like this location better than Jax Beach. It's easier to park & newer & brighter. I Met a friend for lunch here. The place was fairly empty. Our service was good & server was pleasant. I was disappointed that there are absolutely no lunch specials. Although the portions are large and there is enough for left overs I would prefer some lunch specials. Especially with some variety because I like to taste so many things. Both my friend and I had the chicken Tikka Marsala which is served with a big bowl of rice. We shared fried veggies for appetizer which were ok, nothing great. My friend is gluten free and items on the menu are identified as such which is nice for those with dietary restrictions. What an incredible night celebrating my birthday at JaxSpice party hall in St. John's. The theme was Denim and Diamonds. I talked to Puja the owner about my vision for this party, food, room setup and ambience. She was so accommodating with all my requests. I got to taste my food before I placed the order and walk thru room setup and details. The day of the party all the staff went above and beyond to make the party successful. A special shout out to Anastasia, Savannah Jordan and Charlie for taking care of all the details along with Puja! The food was incredible I ordered mango lassi, mango papdi Chaat, pakoras, gobi manchurian and chicken roti rolls. The guests loved the food and the party hall. The hall easily accommodated up to 100 people, there is a separate entrance to the hall it is spacious two story room with lots of light, separate music and speakers. We danced the night away to some amazing Bollywood songs. Be sure to book your next party whether 25 guests or 100 JaxSpice can accommodate all your event needs. Can't recommend them enough. After my hair appointment, I stopped by the new JaxSpice location for dinner. I sat at the bar and started with the Blue Saski martini. It was delicious, but definitely a sipper lol. The restaurant was clean and fresh with lots of seating. I liked how the bar was lit up in front of the stools. There were three large tvs at the bar. I ordered three appetizers for dinner because I wanted to try several dishes. The first item to come out was Veg Pakora. This dish was spectacular and my favorite. I honestly couldn't even taste the vegetables;) They were hot and crispy and I loved dipping in both sauces. Next, I tried the Kachumber salad. All my favorites, cucumbers, red onions and tomatoes, in one dish. The seasoning was light and yummy. My last appetizer was the lamb meatballs. I ordered medium heat for the sauce. I loved the sauce and the lamb was good too. I was happy with my first visit, and I look forward to trying many more dishes at JaxSpice. read more

This space is so open and welcoming viewing from an outside perspective, and inside as well! While briefly waiting for a table of less than 5 mins on a Saturday night, I was given a digital menu to look at while our table was getting set up. Super impressed with being able to look at every food and drink option on the iPad while waiting. Our booth had plenty of room. All of the tables and booths here are spread apart to give a more intimate experience with whomever you dine here with; I loved that feature. Our server was so attentive, so was the host we were greeted with. I really like the idea of being able to pick what spice level you want for most all dishes! We went with a 3 on the chicken appetizer which in my opinion translates to a mild/medium. I think I could have bumped it up to a 4. (Spice level is a scale of 1 - 6) I genuinely was happy with not getting it too spicy for my first experience here though. Next time I'll go hotter. The salad was so refreshing and paired very well with the slight spice of the chicken! Really good appetizer combo! This filled me up so much (along with my mango lassi not pictured) that I only ordered a side of coconut curry to dip some bread in and enjoy as the rest of my dinner. I liked the idea of picking a few small dishes to try as opposed to one big entree this go around. I'm honestly so pleased with this entire experience, I can't wait to go back again. I've never been to the beach location, but this St. John's location is Gorgeous! I very much appreciate good service and this restaurant had amazing hospitality through and through. It looks like it's still being completely finished(adding in art work/outside patio etc) so I would go in with an open mind that it's still a work in progress! My wife and I went for the first time and ordered appetizers and entrees. The samosas were huge and nicely spiced. I particularly liked that they had a good amount of filling in them and were not just a crispy shell. Vegetarian entree of potatoes and chickpeas was really nice. The chickpeas were perfectly cooked and the sauce pulled it together as a nicely balanced meal. They have a mixed tandoori grill of sorts call the Jax Tandoori and it has three different meats. A true medium spice level and I got to have a kebab and shrimp that I might not have ever ordered if not for the mixed entree. The location is very convenient to get to and can accommodate larger groups. All of the staff were wonderful and attentive. We typically start with the chicken 65 appetizer (I think I have the name right) and order chicken korma, butter chicken or the shrimp skewers with an order of na'an. Ok, 2. I cannot say enough good things about the food! Most of the servers are wonderful, welcoming and informative. There is one older gal who just is not meant for any kind of customer service role. She loves to argue, and we know not to sit in her area. She is an anomaly, and everyone else is so kind and helpful. Outside of our experiences with one waitress, the rest of the staff delivers attentive and helpful service. We have eaten in many times and have also taken out. Also notable that portions are large! I've been looking for good Indian food in the area and wanted to check out the new location of JaxSpice at St John's. I've been here twice now and have enjoyed each visit so far. I've been here on two different friday evenings and had somewhat different experiences with service. I think I'd prefer to dine here later in the evening as it can be loud and crowded during the early evening or happy hour time. If you don't mind it being loud or busy, then I'd recommend checking them out for happy hour for the drink and appetizer specials. The service was slower and less attentive due to it being busy, but I ultimately got everything I wanted eventually. The food has been good each time I've been. I'd highly recommend the tandoori chicken! It's very flavorful and juicy. I also loved their lemon rice though my boyfriend thought it was too fragrant. So if you're not a fan of fragrant rices, you might want to skip it. Overall, I'm a fan of the food but hoping the service will get better as they become more established. For now, I'd just recommend going later in the evening or having a bit of patience- but hopefully it'll get better with time! read more
