They are sold in a small container in manure (strong smelling) and they were not alive. I'm not going to lie, it was extremely stinky and attracted a lot of flies. The upside is we caught a ton of fish with them. We recently bought earthworms. They were sold in small container in soft soil/ dirt and they were alive and it didn't smell at all (which is a huge plus). Again, we caught a ton of fish. The bait from this place does not disappoint. They also sold a ton of bait for deep sea fishing as well with a variety of options of fishing poles and lures. They were very informative and gave us great advice on how to catch a large carp fish that was hanging out in our lake. My son is 3 1/2 and caught his first fish using their bait.
